Abstract

An apparatus for cutting meat blocks which includes a main blade to cut slices from a meat block and transverse blades to divide the slice into strips. The blades are mounted on a cutting unit which may be driven to reciprocate relative to a stationary meat block support. The latter includes a slice support structure that extends outwardly beneath the cutting unit in a comb-like configuration. The cutting unit carries a horizontally adjustable stop assembly having stop elements which fit and reciprocate within the gaps formed in the slice support. This configuration permits the smooth and stepless adjustment of the slice thickness without the necessity of disassembling any parts.

Description

The invention relates to a cutter head for a meat cutting machine with the features mentioned in the preamble of claim 1. Such a cutter head is described and shown in EP-A2-0192039 published on 27/8/86.

In this machine, the cutting thickness, that is to say the thickness of the disk, which is separated from a block of material to be cut by means of the main knife, is predetermined by a stop moved by the knife head. Although it is theoretically possible to change this cutting thickness, all the transverse knives must be loosened and, after loosening, adjusting and reattaching the stop, adjusted and screwed down again.

The object of the invention is the further development of the design of a cutter head defined in the preamble of claim 1 such that a simple change in the cutting thickness is made possible.

The solution to this problem provided according to the invention results from the characterizing features of claim 1, while the subclaims define expedient refinements of this concept.

A preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings and is explained in detail below.
  • Fig. 1 is a vertical section through the cutter head end of the machine, and
  • Figure 2 is a partially sectioned top view of the same area of the machine.

In Fig. 1 the cutter head is shown in its lowest position, that is at the end of its downward stroke. From the machine frame, only the shear bar 10 at the end of a material table 12, the machine frame 14 (broken away) and the comb-like stationary support 16, whose L cross section is shown in FIG. 1, can be seen. The cutter head is supported vertically movable relative to these stationary components by means of bushings 18 on column guides (not shown); the drive can take place in a conventional manner by means of a hydraulic working cylinder.

The knife holder comprises a main knife holder 20 to which the main knife 22 is screwed and, with the addition of a spacer 24, also the transverse knife holder 26 (omitted in FIG. 2 for the sake of clarity). The transverse knife carrier comprises a support plate 28 and a cover plate 34 with slots for receiving a transverse knife 30, the exact position of which can be determined by means of adjusting screws 32. Grub screws 36 are screwed into the cover plate 34 as a system for one transverse knife each.

On both sides of the width of the main knife, connecting pieces 40 protrude from the transverse knife carrier 26, to each of which a guide piece 42 is welded; the two guide pieces are connected to one another by a crossmember 44. Each guide piece is penetrated by a guide bore extending perpendicular to the cutting edge of the main knife and partially slotted parallel to the bore from its outer free end, so that a guide column 48 slidably fitted in the bore can be clamped by means of a toggle screw 46. The two guide columns 48 are screwed into a rail 50 running parallel to the crossmember 44, to which as many stop strips 52 are fastened — welded on here — as there are gaps in the stationary support 16; one bar 52 fits into such a gap with little play. Furthermore, a threaded spindle 54 is inserted and welded into the rail 50, which interacts with an adjusting knurled nut 56, which is supported in the crossmember 44. After loosening the toggle, the stop, consisting of the strips welded onto the rail 50, can be adjusted relative to the rest of the cutter head by turning the knurled nut. The greatest cutting thickness is determined by abutting the spindle 54 on the head of the nut 56; in the innermost end position, the strips 52 rest on the support 16. One of the guide pieces also carries a thickness scale 64, on which a marking incision passes, attached to a plate 66 connected to the rail 50.
