Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for applying multidirectional vibrations to an elastic support as well as the apparatus designed for implementing this method.
  • Unidirectional vibration generators are known which are designed to apply unidirectional vibrations to an elastic support.
  • Unidirectional vibration generators are known in particular which comprise an eccentric which cooperates with the vibrated elastic mass.
  • multidirectional vibrations must be applied to the support to be vibrated. This is particularly the case in foundries, during sand molding operations where the latter is vibrated to be compacted on the model, when the molding must be of high quality, that is to say when the footprint left in the sand by the model must be very precise.
  • the unidirectional vibrations generally applied to the sand are then not sufficient to ensure effective clamping of the latter on the model according to the different orientations of the faces thereof.
  • the object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback and it provides a method making it possible, from a source of unidirectional vibrations, to apply to an elastic support vibrations which are oriented in multiple directions, as well as an apparatus ensuring the implementation of this process.
  • the source of unidirectional vibrations is given a rotational movement in a plane parallel to that of the elastic support, thereby varying the direction of the vibrations applied to said support.
  • the apparatus for implementing the method comprises a source of unidirectional vibrations cooperating with the elastic support and means which ensure the rotation of the unidirectional vibration generator in a plane parallel to that of the elastic support.
  • GB-A 2,091,377 describes a different vibrating device.
  • the support rotates and is not an elastic support.
  • the vibration generator is in contact with this support by rollers and is fixed in rotation.
  • a generator of the eccentric type is used. which attacks at a determined angle a spherical part mounted in free rotation on the underside of the vibrating table.
  • the vibrating table is fixed in rotation, while the vibration generator is mounted on a support plate designed to rotate around a vertical axis passing through the center of gravity of the table.
  • the molding table receives vibrations oriented in all directions so that the friction of the molding sand particles in the rest state carried by the table is decreased, the evacuation of the air is improved and the sand particles, whatever their shapes, are stored in the smallest volume and become embedded in each other.
  • the compaction thus carried out also makes it possible to obtain better rigidity of the mold.
  • An adjustment in operation of the vibration frequency can be obtained by associating a speed variator with the drive motor of the eccentric of the generator, and an adjustment in operation of the amplitude of the vibrations can be obtained by mounting the eccentric of vibration on a second eccentric relative to which it can rotate, on command, the desired angle to vary the eccentricity of the driving eccentric.
  • Such a variation in amplitude in operation is particularly advantageous for application to molding lines where the molds to vibrate follow one another at regular intervals on the vibrating table.
  • a frame resting on the ground and which supports at its upper part, by means of four vibration springs 2 of vertical axis, a horizontal plate 3 constituting a molding table.
  • the frame 1 carries, by means of a support 4, a horizontal plate 5 which rests on the support 4 by means of rollers 6.
  • the plate 5 is secured to a shaft vertical 7 arranged inside a housing 8 and driven in rotation by a motor 9.
  • the horizontal plate 5 is integral at its front and rear ends with trapezoidal vertical walls 10 each having at its upper end a bearing 12 opposite which is disposed a bearing 13 secured to the upper end of cha that end wall 14 of a cradle 15, articulated to the walls of the plate 5 by horizontal axes 16 passing through the bearings 12, 13.
  • the cradle 15 carries a unidirectional vibration generator as described in FR-A 2 367 542, c ' that is to say comprising a vibration eccentric 17 driven in rotation by a motor 18 and a belt 19 and engaging a spherical element 20 mounted in free rotation on the underside of the molding table 3 in the vicinity of the center of gravity of that -this.
  • the cradle 15 is secured, by its underside, to a rack 21 in the form of an arc of a circle, designed to mesh with a pinion 22 mounted to rotate on a yoke 23 carried by the plate 5.
  • a geared motor group 24 also carried by the plate 5, is designed to drive the pinion 22 in rotation by means of a belt 25.
  • the latter In order to allow adjustment in operation of the amplitude of the vibrations provided by the eccentric 17 the latter, in the manner known by FR-A 2 367 542, is mounted on a control shaft 26 by means of a inner eccentric forming hub.
  • a differential pulley 28 is mounted on the shaft 26 and drives, by a pinion fixed to the planet gear cage, a ring gear carried by the eccentric 17.
  • a stepping brake motor 29 controls the differential pulley to add or subtract a rotational movement chosen at the eccentric 17 in order to offset it relative to the hub 27 by varying the eccentricity.
  • the gear motor 24 is actuated to adjust the angle of attack of the spherical rotating part 20, then the internal eccentric 27 is adjusted so as to cancel the eccentricity of the eccentric of vibration 17.
  • the eccentric 17 is rotated at a speed designed to produce a vibration frequency close to the natural frequency of the table to be vibrated, then by action on the stepping motor step 29, unidirectional vibrations are applied to table 3 by passing the amplitude of these vibrations from zero to the desired value.
  • the rotation of the plate 5 is then produced around the vertical axis XX while ensuring the attack of the spherical part 20 by the eccentric 17 in multiple directions thereby communicating to the molding table 3 the multidirectional vibrations desired.
  • the vibration period of the mold placed on the table 3 is completed, bring back at zero the amplitude of the vibrations by controlling the stepping motor 29 without modifying the operation of the other elements of the device, replace on the table 3 once again immobile the mold vibrated by a new mold, then gradually reduce the amplitude of the vibrations to the desired value without having to restart the various rotating members.
  • the spherical element 20 carried by the underside of the molding table 3 could be fixed and cooperate with the eccentric 17 by means of a needle bearing (not shown).
