Definitions
- the individual parts of the letter or sections of the letter are connected. Individual information for or about the recipient of the letter is contained on one or more of the surface sections of these parts of the letter, e.g. his address, his customer number, a personal title or the like.
- the different parts of the letter generally serve very different purposes. One or more of the parts of the letter represent the sales letter in the narrower sense of the word. Another part often serves as a reply letter or as an order form. Sometimes there is also a ticket. Other parts of the letter are sometimes designed as a return envelope with which the reply form or order form is to be sent back to the sender of the advertising letter or to another location.
- trimmings are required for this in the production of the advertising letter.
- a trimming strip must be cut off from the finished roll along one or more of its edges, which strips there cover all surface sections of the roll lying one above the other.
- the area for the trimming must be considered beforehand in the carrier web, from which the individual sales letter is created by the folding processes. This area is not available for attaching information.
- a rectangular carrier web is folded into a wrap using the cross-fold method, with part of its surface sections also being glued to one another by means of strip-shaped adhesive applications.
- this wrap must be put into a mailing envelope for mailing if it is not closed by means of a seal strip which is attached along one of the trim edges.
- two cuts may be necessary for the self-mailer and three cuts for the slip-in letters to achieve this separation.
- the trimming strips represent waste areas which must first be present on the carrier webs and which are subsequently cut off. Since the paper web is already printed with the information from the advertising letter, which is divided into the carrier webs for the individual advertising letters, the trimming area has the consequence that the available area of the printing cylinders cannot be fully utilized and that it is free in the area of the trimming areas Information is. These unused surface areas mean just one Trim area a loss of area of approx. 5% and with several trim areas per carrier web a correspondingly higher area loss. These area losses also occur with regard to paper consumption, which is the same size as the area loss for the printing cylinders.
- the sheet division i.e. the division of the carrier web into individual surface sections which are separated or to be separated
- the sheet division is only possible along the edge of the finished folded wrap due to the transverse bleed and therefore the sheet division is largely set to twice the height of the wrap. Only in exceptional cases can a sheet with a different sheet height, namely with a lower sheet height, be created in that a transverse fold location is less than the normal sheet height from the two adjacent transverse fold locations, so that this intermediate transverse fold location is not covered by the trimming and remains undivided.
- the invention specified in claims 1, 3 and 5 is based on the object of creating an advertising letter in the manner of self-mailers in which, on the one hand, maximum ease of use for the letter recipient and, on the other hand, maximum variety of sheet division and for the letter manufacturer and shipper at the same time there is a minimum of trimming.
- the invention specified in claims 11 and 17 is based on the object of specifying a method for producing an advertising letter in the manner of insert letters, in which the same advantages as for the self-mailers are achieved.
- the incision ensures that the surface sections which adjoin the incision in the area between the Tear edge strips are separated from each other by the incision. If the letter recipient later tore off the tear-off edge strips, these areas are immediately isolated. The letter recipient has the greatest possible comfort when handling the different parts of the letter. A trimming is not required for this separation during the production of the letter. Accordingly, a certain surface area does not have to be cut out in the circumferential direction in the case of the printing cylinders. Paper loss is avoided in the paper web. In addition to the isolated surface sections, there are two surface sections that are connected to one another and that are brought to the outside of the roll by certain folding processes so that they can be used as address carriers.
- these non-separate areas ensure that the sales letter can be sent as a self-mailer at all, ie without a separate envelope.
- the incision can be made at any point in the longitudinal direction of the carrier web. This gives the letter manufacturer and sender a great deal of freedom to distribute the various parts of the letter over the entire area of the advertising letter and to design the content and graphic of the advertising letter.
- an envelope flap can be created by an arrow-shaped incision which, together with two adjoining surface sections which are glued to one another at the edge, forms a return envelope which serves for the return of one of the other individual surface sections.
- a special advertising effect can be achieved through an oblique or wavy incision.
- the self-mailing advertising letters according to claim 10 it is avoided that in the transverse folds where an incision is present, the different strength and rigidity of the carrier web in the area of the surface sections, on the one hand, and the edge strips, on the other hand, cause warping and crumple points which cause the folding processes could hinder and lead to the unsightly appearance of the sales letter.
- plug-in advertising letters in which the manufacturing method is designed according to claim 22.
- the letters for advertising purposes or briefly advertising letters are produced and sent once as so-called self-mailers and once as so-called insert letters.
- one of the outside pages bears the address of the mail recipient, so that a separate envelope is not necessary.
- the advertising letter is inserted into a separate envelope, which either has a window or is provided with the address of the letter recipient. According to these differences, the production of the two types of sales letter is different in certain areas.
- FIGS. 44 to 172 such advertising letters that are sent as insert letters are explained below.
- the starting material for the advertising letters of both types is an endless paper web on a roll.
- the paper web has a certain width, which usually includes two outer edge strips with transport holes. This paper web is expediently matched to the largest passage width of a conventional labeling machine, with which the paper web is labeled with the individual characteristics of the individual recipients of the advertising letters.
- top side and bottom side refer to the starting position of the paper web and the sheets to be separated therefrom for the individual parts of the letter with regard to the subsequent folding and gluing processes.
- the transport holes are punched on the two outer edge strips in the rotary printing press.
- the section of the paper web belonging to a specific advertising letter is provided with the individual characteristics of the individual letter recipient.
- Some of the self-mailers are designed as recipient addresses in accordance with the postal regulations.
- Other parts of the individual information are used, for example, to process orders from the recipient of the letter from the sender of the advertising letter or as a personal form of address on the part of the letter, which is to be regarded as an advertising letter in the narrower sense of the word.
- edge strips with the transport holes are either cut off at the beginning or sometimes only later from the finished, inscribed paper web.
- the paper web is cut in the longitudinal direction into individual sections, each section comprising the parts belonging to a sales letter and bearing the individual characteristics of the recipient of the letter. These individual lengths are referred to as the carrier web. They are processed in the folding and gluing machine to the finished sales letter.
- FIG. 1 shows a paper web section 1 which still has the two edge strips 2 with the transport holes 3. These edge strips 2 are cut off along the dash-dotted lines 4 in a cutting station, as indicated in FIG. 1a, so that the carrier web 5 remains.
- the first carrier web 5 for a first embodiment of the advertising letter has a rectangular plan with the two longitudinal edges 6 and 7 and the two transverse edges 8 and 9.
- the carrier web 5 is formed by five transverse folds, which are briefly referred to as transverse folds 11 ... 15 , divided into six fields.
- the carrier web 5 also has two longitudinal perforations 16 and 17 which run at a certain distance r from the adjacent longitudinal edge 6 and 7 and which were already attached to the paper web during processing.
- the longitudinal perforations 16 and 17 delimit two tear-off edge strips 18 and 19. If these tear-off edge strips 18 and 19 are separated from the six fields, the six surface sections A 1... A 6, which are numbered in columns, remain as the usable area of the advertising letter.
- the five transverse fold points 11 ... 15 theoretically have the same distance from one another, so that the surface sections A 1 ... A 6 are of the same height.
- certain deviations from the theoretical dimension will occur. However, the deviations are not taken into account in the following.
- incisions 21 ... 23 are made with a cutting station arranged there. These three incisions run in the transverse direction of the carrier web 5. They extend at least from one longitudinal perforation 16 to the other longitudinal perforation 17. Slight exceedances of the two longitudinal perforations to the outside are permissible. Shortfalls should be avoided.
- the incision 21 runs at least approximately in the line of alignment of the second transverse fold location 12.
- the incision 22 extends at least approximately in the alignment line of the transverse fold location 13.
- the incision 23 extends at least approximately in the alignment line of the cross fold location 15.
- the surface sections A 2 and A 3 are the surface sections A 3 and A 4 and the surface sections A 5 and A 6 within the two longitudinal perforations 16 and 17 completely separated from each other.
- the surface sections A 1 and A 2 remain joined together along the transverse fold point 11.
- the surface sections A 4 and A 5 remain united with one another along the transverse fold point 14.
- a first adhesive is applied in the area of the surface sections A 4... A 6, specifically in the surface area of the two tear-off edge strips 18 and 19 in the form of a continuous adhesive strip 24 and 25, respectively.
- the two adhesive strips 24 and 25 extend outward as close as possible to the adjacent longitudinal edge 6 and 7, respectively.
- Inside the adhesive layers 24 and 25 should not exceed the longitudinal perforations 16 and 17, but should rather keep a distance from them so that the adjacent surface sections remain free of adhesions.
- the first three fields with the surface sections A 1 ... A 3 are folded over the transverse fold point 13 forward onto the top of the fields with the surface sections A 4 ... A 6 and in the area of the tear-off edge strips 18 and 19 by means of the adhesive strips 24 and 25 glued to them.
- the top side here (and later in a corresponding manner) is the side of the paper web 5 which faces the viewer in FIG. 2 and which faces the left sheet edge in FIG. 2.
- the underside of one of the surface sections A 1... A 6 faces the viewer in the subsequent figures, regardless of its position above or below other surface sections, this is indicated by underlining the reference symbol.
- the carrier web 5 emerges from the folding process indicated in FIG. 3 in the state shown in FIG. 4.
- a second application of adhesive in the form of an adhesive strip 27 and 28, respectively, is applied to the underside in the area of the two tear-off edge strips 18 and 19. Similar to the adhesive strips 24 and 25, the adhesive strips 27 and 28 extend in the longitudinal direction as close as possible to the transverse fold points 11 and 12 and outwards to the longitudinal edge 6 or 7 and maintain a certain safety distance from the longitudinal perforation 16 or 17.
- the two surface sections A 1 and A 6 lying one above the other are folded forward about the transverse fold point 11/15 onto the two surface sections A 2 and A 5 likewise lying one above the other and glued to them by means of the adhesive strips 27 and 28.
- This folding and gluing process is indicated in Fig. 5.
- the individual surface sections are not shown as a complete guide to the adjacent surface sections, so that the individual surface sections and their mutual assignment can still be distinguished. In reality you have to imagine the different surface sections or section groups firmly pressed together. This also applies to all other corresponding representations of the carrier webs for self-mailers. In any case, the surface sections of the slip-in letters are only loosely adjacent to one another.
- a third adhesive application is carried out in the area of the surface sections A 2, A 5, A 1, A 6, all lying one above the other, on the underside of the surface section A 6 attached in the form of an adhesive strip 31 and 32 in the area of the tear-off edge strips 18 and 19.
- the superimposed surface sections A 3 and A 4 are folded forward onto the other surface sections (FIG. 7) and glued to them by means of the adhesive strips 31 and 32. This completes the letter wrap, which at the same time forms the finished advertising letter 24 because of the use as a self-mailer.
- FIG. 9 shows a paper web section 31 which still has the two edge strips 32 with the transport holes 33. These edge strips 32 are again cut off in a cutting station along the cut lines 34 shown in broken lines, as in FIG Fig. 9 a is indicated. This leaves the carrier web 35 of the paper web section 31 for a second exemplary embodiment of the advertising letter.
- the carrier web 35 (FIG. 10) has a rectangular plan with the two longitudinal edges 36 and 37 and with the transverse edges 38 and 39.
- the carrier web 35 is divided into five fields by four longitudinal fold points 41 ... 44.
- the carrier web 35 also has two longitudinal perforations 45 and 46, which in turn run at a distance r from the adjacent longitudinal edge 36 and 37 and which have already been attached to the paper web 31.
- the longitudinal perforations 45 and 46 each delimit a tear-off edge strip 47 or 48 from the five fields of the carrier web 35, as a result of which the five surface sections B 1... B 5 remain as the usable area of the advertising letter.
- the transverse fold points 41 ... 44 are again (theoretically) at the same distance from one another, so that the surface sections B 1 ... B 5 are of the same height.
- the one incision 51 is straight and runs at least approximately in the line of alignment of the transverse fold point 42.
- the second incision 52 has an arrow-shaped course, its tip facing the transverse edge 38. Its two sections 53 and 54 run from the tip outwards on both sides in an oblique direction. They extend at least up to the longitudinal perforation 45 or 46 and expediently exceed this by a small amount.
- the area delimited by the two sections 53 and 54 of the incision 52 and by the transverse fold point 43 forms one Envelope flap 65 for a return envelope made from the two surface sections B 4 and B 5, with which, for example, the two surface sections B 1 and B 2 serving as an autograph letter or as an order form or the like can be sent, for example, can be returned to the sender of the advertising letter.
- an adhesive application in the form of two adhesive strips 55 and 56 is applied to the top of the surface section B 4 within the two longitudinal perforations 45 and 46. They extend in the longitudinal direction from the transverse fold point 43 to the transverse fold point 44. In the transverse direction, they extend inward from the adjacent longitudinal perforation 45 or 46 by a width which is sufficient to securely bond the two surface sections B 4 and B 5 to guarantee.
- a further adhesive application in the form of two adhesive strips 57 and 58 is applied in the area of the surface section B 4. These also extend in the longitudinal direction from the transverse fold point 43 to the transverse fold point 44. In the transverse direction, they extend inwards from the longitudinal edge 36 or 37 in the direction of the longitudinal perforation 45 or 46. Since here the adhesive strips 55 and 56 connect on the other side of the two longitudinal perforations, the two adhesive strips 57 and 58 can extend as far as the longitudinal perforations 45 and 46, so that the two adhesive strips 55 and 57 or 56 and 58 lying next to one another like a single, wide strip of adhesive appears and can also be attached as such.
- the field with the surface section B 5 is folded forward about the transverse fold point 44 onto the field with the surface section B 4 (FIG. 11) and glued to it by means of the adhesive strips 55 ... 58.
- another adhesive application in the form of the two adhesive strips 59 and 60 is applied in the surface area of the two tear-off edge strips 47 and 48. They extend in the longitudinal direction from the transverse fold point 42 to the transverse fold point 43. In the transverse direction they each extend from the longitudinal edge 36 or 37 inwards to just before the longitudinal perforation 45 or 46.
- the two superimposed fields with the surface sections B 4 and B 5 are folded over the transverse fold point 43 forward onto the top of the field with the surface section B 3 (FIG. 13) and glued to it by means of the adhesive strips 59 and 60.
- a further adhesive application in the form of the two adhesive strips 61 and 62 is applied in the surface area of the tear-off edge strips 47 and 48, the surface area of which corresponds to that of the two adhesive strips 59 and 60.
- the now three-overlapping fields with the surface sections B 3, B 4 and B 5 are folded over the transverse fold point 42 forward onto the top of the field with the surface section B 2 (FIG. 15) and glued to it by means of the adhesive strips 61 and 62.
- a last adhesive application in the form of the two adhesive strips 62 and 63 which correspond to the preceding adhesive strips, is applied in the area of the surface section B 1 in the surface area of the tear-off edge strips 47 and 48.
- the merged fields with the surface sections B 2 ... B 5 are folded forward around the transverse fold point 41 to the top of the field with the surface section B 1 (FIG. 17) and by means of the two adhesive strips 62 and 63 glued to it. With this last folding and gluing process the letter wrap is finished, which also represents the advertising letter 64 (FIG. 18).
- the two outer fields with the surface sections B 1 and B 2 at least one on its outside, which corresponds to the underside of the carrier web 35, carries individual details of the individual letter recipient in the manner of his postal address. If the two surface sections B 1 and B 2 are returned later, they already contain the individual information. Apart from that, further individual details, such as a customer number, can be attached to the surface sections B 1 and B 2, for which in particular the top of the two surface sections B 1 and B 2, which are located on the inside of the finished advertising letter, can be considered.
- the paper web section 71 shown in FIG. 19 has the two edge strips 72 with the transport holes 73. These edge strips 72 are cut off in a cutting station along the cutting lines 74 (FIG. 19 a), so that the carrier web 75 remains (FIG. 20).
- the carrier web 75 has a rectangular plan with the longitudinal edges 76 and 77 and the transverse edges 78 and 79.
- the carrier web 75 is divided into four fields by a longitudinal fold point 81 and a transverse fold point 82, which are arranged in two columns and two rows.
- the longitudinal fold point is not in the middle of the carrier web 75, but closer to the longitudinal edge 76.
- the group of fields between the longitudinal fold 81 and the longitudinal edge 76 has a smaller width than the group of fields between the longitudinal fold 81 and the longitudinal edge 77.
- the transverse fold 82 lies in the middle between the transverse edges 78 and 79. As a result, the fields are above and equally high below the transverse fold point 82.
- a longitudinal perforation 83 and 84 On both sides of the longitudinal fold point there is a longitudinal perforation 83 and 84, which are at least approximately the same distance r from the longitudinal fold point 81.
- a third longitudinal perforation 85 In addition to the longitudinal edge 77, there is a third longitudinal perforation 85, which is also at a distance r from the longitudinal edge 77.
- the three longitudinal perforations 83 ... 85 are already attached to the paper web from which the paper web section 71 was divided.
- the three longitudinal perforations 83 ... 85 each delimit a tear-off edge strip 86 or 87 or 88 from the group of fields in which they run. If the tear-off edge strips 86 ... 88 are accounted for, the surface areas C 1 ...
- the width of the group of fields with the surface sections C 3 and C 4 is dimensioned so large that even after the two tear-off edge strips 87 and 88 have been separated off, the surface sections C 3 and C 4 have a greater width than the surface sections C 1 and C 2, even if only one tear-off edge strip 86 is separated from the group of its fields.
- the carrier web 75 has an incision 89 which was already made during the processing of the paper web, so that it is already present in the paper web section 71.
- the incision 89 is made at least approximately in the line of alignment of the transverse fold point 82 and extends from the longitudinal edge 76 to at least the longitudinal fold point 83.
- the two surface sections C 1 and C 2 are already separated from one another outside the tear-off edge strip 86.
- the tear-off edge strip 86 is later separated (together with the tear-off edge strip 87), the two surface sections C 1 and C 2 are easily isolated.
- the group of panels with the surface sections C 1 and C 2 is first folded over around the longitudinal fold point 81 to the top of the panels with the surface sections C 3 and C 4 (FIG. 21), but due to the different widths Part of the top remains uncovered.
- An adhesive application in the form of the two adhesive strips 91 and 92 is then applied in the area of the surface sections C 2 and C 4.
- the adhesive strip 91 is attached to the back of the tear-off edge strip 86, where it extends in the longitudinal direction from the transverse fold point 82 to the transverse edge 79 and in the transverse direction from the longitudinal edge 76 to just about the longitudinal perforation 83.
- the adhesive strip 92 is applied to the top of the tear-off edge strip 88, it likewise extending in the longitudinal direction from the transverse fold point 83 to the transverse edge 79 and in the transverse direction from the longitudinal edge 77 to just under the longitudinal perforation 85.
- the row of panels with the surface sections C 1 and C 3 is folded forward around the transverse fold point 83 to the row of panels with the surface sections C 2 and C 4 and glued to them by means of the adhesive strips 91 and 92. This completes the letter wrap, which also represents sales letter 93.
- the advertising letter 93 still has a closed appearance to the outside, even if the two surface sections C 1 and C 2 do not because of the incision 89 along the transverse fold locations 82 are more united. This is illustrated in the fanned-out side view of the advertising letter 93 in FIG. 24, where it can be seen that the two surface sections C 3 and C 4 are connected along the transverse fold point 83, whereas the surface sections C 1 and C 2 are separated from one another. Out for this reason, the cut-in 89 could also be made at a different location between the two transverse edges 78 and 79. In addition, there could also be further incisions in the area of the surface sections C 1 and C 2, as will be shown later.
- the paper web section 95 shown in FIG. 26 has the two edge strips 96 with the transport holes 97 which are separated along the cutting lines 96 (FIG. 26a), so that the carrier web 101 for a fourth exemplary embodiment of the advertising letter is of the self-mailer type remains (Fig. 27).
- the carrier web 101 in turn has a rectangular plan with the longitudinal edges 102 and 103 and with the transverse edges 104 and 105.
- the carrier web 101 has a longitudinal fold point 106 and two transverse fold points 107 and 108, which subdivide the carrier web 101 into two columns and three rows of fields.
- a longitudinal perforation 111 and 112 which are at a distance r from the longitudinal fold point 106.
- another longitudinal perforation 113 which is also at a distance r from the longitudinal edge 103.
- the longitudinal perforations 111 ... 113 delimit a tear-off edge strip 114 or 115 or 116 from the six fields. If these tear-off edge strips are billed from the six fields of the carrier web 101, the six surface sections D 1... D 6 which are numbered in columns remain as their usable area.
- the group of fields with the surface sections D 1 ... D 3 has a smaller width than the group of fields with the surface sections D 4 ...
- transverse fold point 108 runs in the line of alignment of the transverse fold point 108 and extends from the longitudinal edge 102 to at least the longitudinal perforation 111.
- the incision 119 is made in the group of fields with the greater width. It runs in the line of alignment of the transverse fold point 107 and extends at least from the longitudinal perforation 112 to at least the longitudinal perforation 113. Since the transverse fold points 107 and 108 are at the same distance from one another as from the respectively adjacent transverse edge 104 and 107, the surface sections D 1. .. D 6 with each other the same height, which is equal to the height h of the finished letter wrap or advertising letter 120 (Fig. 33).
- the group of fields with the surface sections D 1 ... D 3 is forward about the longitudinal fold point 106 on the top of the group of fields with the Area sections D 4 ... D 6 folded (Fig. 28).
- An adhesive application in the form of the two adhesive strips 121 and 122 is applied in the area of the middle surface sections D 2 and D 5.
- the adhesive strip 121 is located in the surface area of the tear-off edge strip 114, specifically on its underside, between the two transverse fold points 107 and 108 on the one hand and between the longitudinal fold point 106 and the longitudinal perforation 111 on the other hand.
- the adhesive strip 122 is located in the surface area of the tear-off edge strip 116, specifically on its front side, likewise between the two transverse fold points 107 and 108 on the one hand and between the longitudinal edge 103 and the longitudinal perforation 113 on the other hand.
- the two fields with the surface sections D 3 and D 6 are folded forward around the transverse fold point 108 onto the fields with the surface sections D 2 and D 5 (FIG. 30) and glued to them by means of the adhesive strips 121 and 122.
- a further adhesive strip 123 and 124 is attached to the underside of the tear-off edge strips 115 and 116 on the underside thereof (FIG. 31). Both adhesive strips 123 and 124 extend in the longitudinal direction from the transverse edge 105 to the longitudinal fold point 108 and in the transverse direction from the longitudinal fold point 106 to the longitudinal perforation 112 or from the longitudinal edge 103 to the longitudinal perforation 113.
- the row of panels with the surface sections D 1 and D 4 is folded forward around the transverse fold point 107 onto the panels with the superimposed surface sections D 2 and D 5 and D 3 and D 6 (FIG. 32) and with these by means of the adhesive strips 123 and 124 glued. This completes the letter wrap, which also represents the finished advertising letter 120 (FIG. 33).
- the fanned-out representation in FIG. 34 shows the position and mutual assignment of the surface sections D 1... D 6 as if the tear-off edge strips had already been removed.
- the paper web section 125 shown in FIG. 35 has the edge strips 126 with the transport holes 127. These edge strips are cut off again along the cutting lines 128, so that the carrier web 131 remains (FIG. 36).
- the carrier web 131 with a rectangular outline has the longitudinal edges 132 and 133 and the transverse edges 134 and 135.
- the carrier web 131 is divided by a longitudinal fold point 136 and by three transverse fold points 137 ... 139 into eight fields, which are arranged in two columns and four rows.
- the two longitudinal perforations 141 and 142 which are at a distance r from the longitudinal fold point 136, are present on both sides of the longitudinal fold point 136.
- the longitudinal perforation 143 which is also at a distance r from it.
- the longitudinal perforations 141 and 142 delimit a tear-off edge strip 144 and 145, respectively.
- the longitudinal perforation 143 delimits a tear-off edge strip 146. If these tear-off strips 144 ... 146 are billed from the eight fields, the eight surface sections E 1 ... E 8 remain as the usable area of the advertising letter, which are numbered in columns.
- the cut 147 is present in the alignment of the transverse fold point 138 and extends from the longitudinal edge 132 to at least the longitudinal perforation 141.
- the incision 148 in the line of alignment of the transverse fold point 137 and the incision 149 in the line of the transverse fold point 139. These two incisions extend from at least the longitudinal perforation 142 to at least the Longitudinal perforation 143.
- two transverse perforations are present in the column of the surface sections E 1...
- transverse perforation 151 in the line of alignment of the transverse fold point 137 and the transverse perforation 152 in the line of alignment of the transverse fold point 139.
- transverse perforations 151 and 152 extend from the longitudinal edge 132 to at least the longitudinal perforation 141.
- the three transverse folding points 137 ... 139 have a uniform, equal distance from one another and from the transverse edges 134 and 135, which is equal to the height h of the finished letter roll, which also represents the advertising letter 153 (FIG. 44).
- the numerous incisions 147 ... 149 and the transverse perforations 151 and 152 it should be noted that in the column of the surface sections with the greater width, here the surface sections E 5 ... E 8, an area is free of an incision , which extends in the longitudinal direction from one transverse fold point to the next but one transverse fold point, here from the transverse fold point 137 to the transverse fold point 139, and which has an overall length of twice the height h of the wrap or advertising letter 153.
- the group of fields with the surface sections E 1 ... E 4 is folded forward about the longitudinal fold point 136 onto the top of the group of fields with the surface sections E 5 ... E 8 (FIG. 37).
- In the field of Surface sections E 3 and E 7 are applied in the form of the two adhesive strips 154 and 155. One is located on the underside of the tear-off edge strip 144. The other is on the top of the tear-off edge strip 146.
- the row of fields with the surface sections E 4 and EB are folded up around the transverse fold point 139 upward to the third row of fields with the surface sections E 3 and E 7 and glued to it by means of the adhesive strips 154 and 155 (FIG. 39).
- a further adhesive strip 156 and 157 are applied in the area of the surface sections E 2 and E 6 on the underside of the tear-off edge strip 144 and on the top of the tear-off edge strip 146. Then the row of panels with the surface sections E 1 and E 5 is folded forward around the transverse fold point 137 to the row of panels with the surface sections E 2 and E 6 (FIG. 41) and glued to them by means of the adhesive strips 156 and 157. In the area of the lower row of superimposed fields with the surface sections E 3, E 4, E 7 and E 8, a third adhesive application with the adhesive strips 158 and 159 is applied, specifically on the underside of the tear-off edge strip 145 or on the underside of the Tear-off edge strip 146.
- the two groups of fields had a different width on either side of the longitudinal fold location.
- the area sections of the relevant groups of the fields also had a different width after the tear-off edge strips had been separated off.
- the position of the existing incisions and / or transverse perforations between the individual surface sections was predetermined in a certain way.
- the position of the incisions and / or the transverse perforations could be changed within wide limits.
- at least one area section with a total length of twice the height of the finished letter wrap or advertising letter had to be free of cuts.
- incisions and / or transverse perforations could also be made there.
- the two groups of fields on either side of the longitudinal fold location can also have the same width.
- the surface area can lie in any of the two groups of fields without an incision. The position of this surface area in the longitudinal direction is of minor importance. At most, it influences the position of the incisions and / or transverse perforations and the type of folding process as well as the sequence of the individual folding and gluing processes.
- the paper web section shown in FIG. 46 is also the carrier web 161 for the first exemplary embodiment of the advertising letter, which is used as a slip-in letter.
- the carrier web 161 like those also described earlier, has a rectangular plan area with the longitudinal edges 162 and 163 and the transverse edges 164 and 165.
- the carrier web 161 also has two edge strips 166 and 167 which are provided with transport holes 168. These edge strips are sometimes referred to as pilot hole edges. Since the edge strips 166 and 167 are later cut off as trim, they can also be referred to as trim strips. These trimming strips or edge strips 166 and 167 are cut off along the dashed lines 169 and 170.
- the carrier web 161 is divided into four fields by three transverse fold points 171 ... 173. After deducting the two edge strips 166 and 167, the surface sections F 1 ... F 4 remain as the usable area of the advertising letter.
- incisions 174 and 175 in the line of alignment of the transverse fold points 171 and 173, respectively.
- the two cuts each extend in the transverse direction at least up to the cutting lines 169 and 170, so that the along the incisions adjoining surface sections F 1 and F 2 or F 3 and F 4 are completely separated from one another after the edge strips 166 and 167 have been cut off.
- the field with the surface section F 1 is folded forward about the transverse fold point 171 onto the top of the field with the surface section F 2 (FIG. 47).
- the field with the surface section F 4 is then folded forward over the transverse fold point 173 onto the field with the surface section F 3 (FIG. 49).
- the one row of fields lying one above the other for example the fields with the surface sections F 1 and F 2 is folded forward over the central transverse folding point 172 onto the other row of fields (FIG. 51), as a result of which the letter wrap, or short wrap 176, is finished is folded (Fig. 52).
- the two trimmings 177 and 178 are cut off from this winding 176 along the cutting lines 169 and 170 (FIGS. 46 and 52). This concludes sales letter 179.
- the arrangement of the individual surface sections in the advertising letter 179 can again be clearly seen in FIG. 53 in a fanned-out representation.
- the carrier web 181 shown in FIG. 55 with the two longitudinal edges 182 and 183 and the transverse edges 184 and 185 has the two trim strips or edge strips 186 and 187, which are later cut off along the cut lines 188 and 189.
- the carrier web 181 is divided by four transverse fold points 191 ... 194 into five fields, which have the same height among one another. If the edge strips 186 and 187 are calculated from these, the surface sections G 1 ... G 5 result as the usable area.
- the two fields with the surface sections G 1 and G 2 are folded forward over the transverse fold point 192 to the fields with the surface sections G 3 and G 4 (FIG. 56).
- the field with the surface section G 5 is then folded over at the front about the transverse fold location 194 (FIG. 58).
- the fields with the surface sections G 2 and G 3 are folded forward around the transverse fold point 193 onto the other fields with the surface sections G 1, G 4 and G 5 (FIG. 60), as a result of which the winding 198 is completely folded.
- the finished advertising letter 199 is available. It then only has to be put in an envelope in order to be sent. From Fig. 63, the individual surface sections in their mutual assignment can be seen in sales letter 199 in a fanned-out representation.
- the carrier web 201 shown in FIG. 64 with the longitudinal edges 202 and 203 and the transverse edges 204 and 205 has the edge strips 206 and 207, which are later cut off along the cutting lines 208 and 209.
- the carrier web 201 is divided into three fields by two transverse fold points 211 and 212, which after deduction of the edge strips 206 and 207 result in the surface sections H 1... H 3.
- the transverse fold point 211 lies in the middle between the transverse edge 204 and the second transverse fold point 212, as a result of which the surface sections H 1 and H 2 have the same height, which is equal to the height h of the fully folded roll 213 (FIG. 68).
- the transverse edge 205 has a smaller distance from the transverse fold location 212.
- the field with the surface section H 3 is folded over the transverse fold location 212 (FIG. 65).
- the field is then folded over with the area section H 1 around the transverse fold point 211 (FIG. 67), as a result of which the winding 213 is already completely wound (FIG. 68).
- the trim strips or edge strips 206 and 207 are cut off along the cut lines 208 and 209, as a result of which the finished advertising letter 215 is present (FIG. 69).
- the carrier web 221 shown in FIG. 70 with the longitudinal edges 222 and 223 and the transverse edges 224 and 225 has the trimming or edge strips 226 and 227, which are later cut off along the cutting lines 228 and 229.
- the carrier web 221 is divided into four fields by four transverse fold points 231 ... 234, from which the surface sections I 1 ... I 5 result after deduction of the edge strips 226 and 227.
- the transverse fold point 232 is at the same distance from the two adjacent fold fold points 231 and 233, which is equal to the height h of the finished folded roll 235, as a result of which the two surface sections I 2 and I 3 have the same height among each other.
- the distances between the transverse fold points 233 and 234, between the transverse fold point 234 and the transverse edge 235 and between the transverse fold point 231 and the transverse edge 224 are smaller than the height h. They are staggered in such a way that the remaining surface sections in the order I 4, I 5 and I 1 have a gradually decreasing height.
- the field with the surface section I 5 is folded back over the transverse fold point 234 onto the underside of the field with the surface section I 4 (FIG. 71). Then the two superimposed fields with the surface sections I 4 and I 5 are folded over together around the transverse fold point 233 in a kind of fan fold to the top of the field with the surface section I 3 (FIG. 73).
- the panel with the surface section I 1 is folded forward around the transverse fold point 231 onto the top of the panel with the surface section I 2 (FIG. 75).
- the two fields one above the other with the surface sections I 1 and I 2 are folded over together around the transverse fold point 232 to the front onto the top of the fields with the surface sections I 3 and I 5 (FIG. 77).
- the letter wrap 235 is now completely folded (FIG. 78). Edge strips 226 and 227 are cut off from it along section lines 228 and 229, respectively, and a preliminary stage 236 (FIGS. 79 and 80) of the final form of advertising letter 237 (FIGS. 81 and 82) is thereby achieved.
- the surface sections I 1, I 5 and I 4 are arranged somewhat offset from one another within the two surface sections I 2 and I 3 surrounding them. Therefore, in the preliminary stage 236, the advertising letter is pushed open on the edge with the transverse fold point 232, as is indicated in FIG. 81.
- the inner surface sections I 1, I 5 and I 4 all slide towards the transverse fold point 232, so that when the surface section I 2 is pivoted down, they lie neatly staggered on top of one another in plan view (FIG. 82).
- the carrier web 241 shown in FIG. 83 with the longitudinal edges 242 and 243 and the transverse edges 244 and 245 has the edge strips 246 and 247, which are later cut off along the cutting lines 248 and 249 as a trim.
- the carrier web 241 is divided into seven fields by the six transverse fold points 251 ... 256, of which the seven surface sections J 1 ... J 7 remain after deduction of the edge strips 246 and 247.
- the mutual distance between two of the five transverse folds 251 ... 255 is at least approximately the same as each other and corresponds to the height h of the finished folded roll 257 (FIG. 91).
- the distance between the transverse fold point 251 and the transverse edge 244, between the transverse fold points 255 and 256 and between the transverse fold point 256 and the transverse edge 245 is smaller than the height h, in such a way that the surface sections lying between them are in the order J 6, J 1 and J 7 have a gradually decreasing height.
- the fields with the surface sections J 1 ... J 3 are folded forward around the transverse fold point 253 onto the top of the fields with the surface sections J 4 ... J 6 (FIG. 84). Then the field with the surface section J 7 is forward to the cross fold point 256 on the Fields with the surface sections J 1 and J 6 folded over, the transverse edge 244 being covered (FIGS. 86 and 87). Thereafter, the fields with the surface sections J 1, J 6 and J 7 are folded forward together around the transverse fold point 255 to the fields with the surface sections J 2 and J 5 (FIG. 88). Finally, the panels with the surface sections J 3 and J 4 are folded forward over the transverse fold point 254 onto the other panels (FIG. 90), as a result of which the winding 257 is completely folded.
- the finished advertising letter 250 is present (FIG. 92).
- the position of the individual surface sections can be seen in the fanned-out representation in FIG. 93. It can also be seen from this that when the advertising letter 250 is unfolded, in particular after the superimposed surface sections J 2 and J 5 have been folded away, the three inner surface sections J 7, J 1 and J 6 reappear as a staggered row of sheets. Of them, the surface section J 1 is isolated because of the incision 258, whereas the surface sections J 6 and J 7 are connected along the transverse fold point 256.
- the carrier web 261 shown in FIG. 94 with the longitudinal edges 262 and 263 and with the transverse edges 264 and 265 has the edge strips 266 and 267, which are later cut off along the cutting lines 268 and 269.
- the carrier web 261 is divided into six fields by five transverse fold points 271 ... 275, of which the surface sections K 1 ... K 6 remain as usable area after the edge strips 266 and 267 have been severed.
- the transverse fold points 272 ... 274 have the same distance in pairs, which is equal to the height h of the finished roll 276 (FIG. 99). Therefore, the surface sections K 3 and K 4 are used as a wrapper 276 closed on one side.
- the surface sections K 2 and K 5 also have the height h.
- the surface sections K 6 and K 1 on the other hand, have a gradually decreasing height in this order.
- One of the notches 277 ... 280 is present in the line of alignment of the transverse fold points 271, 272, 274 and 275.
- the carrier web 281 shown in FIG. 102 with the longitudinal edges 282 and 283 and the transverse edges 284 and 285 has the two edge strips 286 and 287, which are later cut off along the cutting lines 288 and 289.
- the carrier web 281 is divided into four fields by four transverse folding points 291 ... 294, of which the surface sections L 1 ... L 5 remain after the edge strips 286 and 287 have been separated. These surface sections have the same height h among themselves.
- a straight incision 295 is made in the line of alignment of the transverse fold point 291 and extends up to the cutting lines 288 and 289.
- a second incision 296 is made, which is arrow-shaped, the arrowhead pointing toward the surface section L 5. From this arrowhead, the two straight sections 297 and 298 of the incision 296 extend in an oblique direction to the transverse fold point 293, which they reach at least approximately at the intersection with the cutting line 288 or 289, the two sections 297 and 298 expediently over the two intersection lines 288 and 289 extend slightly.
- the surface sections L 2 and L 3 are used to produce an envelope.
- the triangular surface between the transverse fold point 293 and the arrow-shaped incision 296 forms the envelope flap 299 for this purpose.
- an adhesive application in the form of two adhesive strips 301 and 302 is applied in the surface section L 3 along the cutting line 288 and 289, respectively, which extends from the transverse fold point 292 to the transverse fold point Extend 293.
- the fields with the surface sections L 1 and L 2 are folded forward around the transverse fold point 292 onto the fields with the surface sections L 3 and L 4 (FIG. 103) and the two surface sections L 2 and L 3 by means of the two Adhesive strips 301 and 302 glued together.
- the fields with the surface sections L 2 and L 3 forming the envelope are then folded over the transverse fold point 293 (FIG. 105).
- the field with the surface section L 5 could be folded over to the other fields.
- the reverse folding process is shown, in which the fields with the surface sections L 1 ... L 4 forward to the field with the Surface section L 5 are folded over (Fig. 107).
- the back of the surface section L 4 comes forward, so that the flap 299 is visible on the finished winding 303, which is separated from the surface section L 4 by the arrow-shaped incision 296.
- the finished advertising letter 304 is available (FIG. 109).
- the position and the assignment of its various parts can be seen from the fanned-out representation in FIG. 110, where in particular the envelope 305 can be clearly seen from the surface sections L 2 and L 3, with the two envelope parts with a small one as with most side views or sectional representations Distance is shown that does not really exist.
- the flap 299 and the remaining part of the surface section L 4 can also be clearly seen, the dovetail ends being omitted from the drawing for the sake of clarity.
- the surface section L 5 and the part of the surface section L 4 remaining outside the envelope flap 299 can be used as an advertising letter in the narrower sense of the word.
- the completely isolated surface section L 1 can be used as a reply form or order form, which can be returned with the envelope 305.
- 111 shows a carrier web 311 for a slip-in letter which, like the carrier web 71 (FIG. 19), has two groups of fields which have a different width. Since the longitudinal edge of the carrier web on the side of the group with the smaller width is folded over onto the fields with the larger width during the folding processes and therefore along this A subsequent trimming is not possible along the longitudinal edge, the edge strips 318 with transport holes originally present there at the paper web section must already be cut off before processing the carrier web, as is indicated in FIG. 111 on the left.
- the carrier web 311 has a rectangular plan with the two longitudinal edges 312 and 313 and the transverse edges 314 and 315.
- the carrier web 311 has on one side an edge strip 316 with transport holes, which is later cut off along the cutting line 317 as a trim.
- the carrier web 311 is divided by a longitudinal fold 321 and a transverse fold 322 into four fields, which are arranged in two columns and two rows.
- 111, two cutting lines 323 and 324 are shown in dash-dot lines on both sides of the longitudinal fold point 321. You have a distance s from the longitudinal fold point 321.
- the cutting line 317 is at the same distance from the longitudinal edge 313.
- the two cutting lines 323 and 324 delimit from the fields of the carrier web 311 a trimming strip 325 and 326, respectively, which are later cut off as a trimmed portion from the completely folded roll. If the edge strips 316 and the two trim strips 325 and 326 are accounted for from the fields of the carrier web 311, the surface areas M 1... M 4, which are numbered in columns, remain as the usable area of the carrier web 311 and the subsequent advertising letter.
- an incision 327 is present in the line of alignment of the transverse fold point 322. It stretches in the transverse direction at least up to the two cutting lines 317 and 324, so that the two surface sections M 3 and M 4 are separated from one another from the start.
- the fields with the surface sections M 1 and M 2 are folded forward about the longitudinal fold point 321 onto the top of the fields with the surface sections M 3 and M 4 (FIG. 112).
- the row of fields with the surface sections M 1 and M 3 is folded back over the transverse fold point 322 onto the fields with the surface sections M 2 and M 4 (FIG. 114).
- the winding 328 is now completely folded (FIG. 115).
- the trim strips 325 and 326 and the edge strips 316 are cut off therefrom along the cut lines 323 and 324 and along the cut line 317. This completes the sales letter 329 (Fig. 116).
- the surface sections M 3 and M 4 are indeed completely separated from one another. However, since, despite their greater width, they lie within the two surface sections M 1 and M 2, which in turn are connected to one another along the transverse fold point 322, the individual sheets of the advertising letter 329 can nevertheless be handled together easily, in particular inserted into an envelope for dispatch .
- This type of arrangement of the various surface sections can be seen in FIG. 117, in which the advertising letter 329 is shown fanned out for the sake of clarity.
- the carrier web 331 shown in FIG. 118 with the longitudinal edges 332 and 333 and the transverse edges 334 and 335 has the edge strip 336, which is later cut off along the cutting line 337 at a distance s from the longitudinal edge 333.
- the second edge strip 338 originally present on the paper web and the paper web section has already been cut off.
- the carrier web 331 is divided into four fields in the same way as before, the carrier web 311 by a longitudinal fold point 341 and a transverse fold point 342, which are arranged in two columns and two rows. If the two trim strips 345 and 346 are cut off therefrom along the cut line 337 of the edge strips 336 and along the two cut lines 343 and 344 at a distance s from the longitudinal fold point 341, the surface sections N 1... N 4 remain as usable area.
- the incision 347 which is made here in the area of the surface sections N 1 and N 2 and which extends from the longitudinal edge 332 to at least the cutting line 343.
- the group of fields with the smaller width i.e. the fields with the surface sections N 1 and N 2 are folded forward about the longitudinal fold point 341 onto the top of the fields with the surface sections N 3 and N 4 (FIG. 119).
- the row of panels with the surface sections N 1 and N 3 is folded forward about the transverse fold point 342 onto the top of the panels with the surface sections N 2 and N 4 (FIG. 121), with the end of which the lap 348 is folded (FIG. 122 ).
- the edge strips 336 and the trim strips 345 and 346 are cut off along the cutting lines 337, 343 and 344. This completes sales letter 349.
- the surface sections N 1 and N 2 which are completely separated from one another by the incision 347, lie within the surface sections N 3 and N 4 connected along the transverse fold point 342, as can be seen from the fanned-out illustration in FIG. 124.
- the carrier web 351 shown in FIG. 125 is divided into six fields by a longitudinal fold point 352 and two transverse fold points 353 and 354, which are arranged in two columns and three rows. If the two trim strips 357 and 358 as well as along the cut line 361 of the edge strips 362 are separated from both sides of the longitudinal fold point 352 along the cut line 355 and 456, the surface sections O 1 ... O 6 remain, which are numbered in columns.
- An incision 363 is present between the two surface sections O 2 and O 3 with the smaller width.
- An incision 364 is present between the surface sections O 4 and O 5 with the greater width.
- the cut 363 lies in the line of alignment of the second transverse fold 354 and extends from the longitudinal edge 365 to at least the cut line 355.
- the cut 364 lies in the line of the first cross fold 353 and extends at least from the cut line 356 to the cut line 361.
- a transverse perforation 366 which extends from the longitudinal edge 365 to at least the cutting line 355.
- the fields of the first column with the surface sections O 1 ... O 3 around the longitudinal fold point 352 forward to the top of the second column of the fields the surface sections O 4 ... O 6 folded (Fig. 126).
- the fields of the first row with the surface sections O 1 and O 4 are folded forward over the transverse fold point 353 to the top of the fields of the second row with the surface sections O 2 and O 5 (FIG. 128), because in this transverse fold point the long Notch 364 is present.
- the fields of the third row with the surface sections O 3 and O 6 are folded forward around the transverse fold point 354 onto the top of the fields already lying one above the other with the other surface sections (FIG. 130). This completes the winding 367 (Fig. 131). He has the fields with the greater width with the surface sections O 5 and O 6 outside, which are connected along the transverse fold point 354.
- the trim strips 357 and 358 as well as along the cut line 361 of the edge strips 362 are cut from the winding 367 along the cut lines 355 and 356.
- the advertising letter 368 is now ready (FIG. 132).
- the arrangement of its surface sections can be seen in FIG. 133 in a fanned-out representation.
- the carrier web 371 shown in FIG. 134 is divided by the longitudinal fold point 372 and the three transverse fold points 374 ... 376 into eight fields which are arranged in two columns and four rows. If the trim strips 376 and 377 located on both sides of the longitudinal fold point 372 and the edge strips 379 located along the one longitudinal edge 378 are accounted for, the usable area remains the surface sections P 1... P 8, which are numbered in columns.
- the cut 381 lies in the line of alignment of the central cross fold 375 between the surface sections P 2 and P 3.
- the cut 382 lies in the line of the cross fold 374 between the surface sections P 5 and P 6.
- the cut 383 lies in the line of the cross fold 376 the surface sections P 7 and P 8.
- the transverse perforation 384 lies in the line of alignment of the transverse fold point 374 between the surface sections P 1 and P 2.
- the transverse perforation 385 lies in the line of alignment of the cross fold point 376 between the surface sections P 3 and P 4.
- FIG. 134 are from the group of the fields with the greater width, the two fields with the two surface sections P 6 and P 7 without an incision or a transverse perforation. These are therefore considered as wrapping sheets of the finished wrap 386 (FIG. 142) and the sheet stack of the finished advertising letter 387 (FIG. 143).
- the fields with the surface sections P 1 ... P 4 with the smaller width around the longitudinal fold point 372 are folded forward onto the top of the fields with the surface sections P 5 ... P 8 (FIG. 135).
- the outer two rows of fields with the surface sections P 1 and P 5 or with the surface sections P 4 and P 8 forward on the inner two rows of fields with the surface sections P 2 and P 6 or P 3 and P 7 folded over (Fig. 137 and 139).
- the one row of superimposed fields for example the one with the surface sections P 1, P 2, P 5 and P 6, around the central transverse fold point 375 on the other row of fields, here with the surface sections P 3, P 4, P 7 and P 8, folded over to the finished roll 386 (FIG. 141).
- the finished advertising letter 387 is available.
- the position of the individual surface sections and their mutual assignment can be seen from FIG. 144.
- the number and the position of the incisions between two surface sections vary widely, with at least one pair of surface sections lying in a column next to one another, or more precisely one above the other, without an incision (and also without a transverse perforation).
- the folding processes from the flat carrier web to the finished winding are then to be carried out in such a way that these two surface sections are at the end at the end.
- a type of spiral folding process was used predominantly or consistently.
- some or all of a kind of fanfold folding process can also be used if this results in a better assignment of the individual surface sections to one another. This depends not least on the position and the mutual distance of the cross fold points and thus on the height of the individual surface sections and on the number and the position or distribution of the incisions.
- Fig. 150 ... 161 some folding processes are shown in schematic representation using carrier webs with six rows of fields. The surface sections thereof can be arranged in one or in two columns, it being assumed in the latter case that the first folding process around the longitudinal fold point has already been carried out.
- the carrier web 401 shown in FIG. 162 is similar to the carrier web 161 (FIG. 46). It has the longitudinal edges 402 and 403 and the transverse edges 404 and 405.
- the carrier web 401 each has a trimming strip 406 and 407 along the two longitudinal edges 402 and 403, which are later cut off along the dashed lines 408 and 409, respectively. These cutting lines 408 and 409 have the distance s from the adjacent longitudinal edge 402 and 403, respectively, which corresponds to the width of the subsequent trimming.
- the two trim strips 406 and 407 are shown without transport holes.
- the carrier web 401 is cut off from an endless paper web, it can be assumed that, in the same way as with the carrier webs dealt with previously, the two trim strips 406 and 407 are provided with transport holes which serve to ensure that the individual characteristics and details for and / or completely and correctly positioned on the carrier web in question via the letter recipient.
- the carrier web 401 is usually provided with so-called gripper edges or gripper edge strips, on which the single sheets are gripped and transported by transport grippers between the machines and within the sheet-fed printing machine and the labeling machine.
- the carrier web 401 is based on the last-mentioned embodiment.
- the carrier web 401 is divided into four fields by three transverse fold points 411 ... 413, which have the same height h as the finished winding 414 (FIG. 169). If the two trim strips 406 and 407 are accounted for from the four fields, the surface sections Q 1 ... Q 4 result.
- the incision 415 and the transverse perforation 416 extend in the transverse direction at least up to the cutting lines 408 and 409.
- the transverse fold point 412 between the two middle surface sections Q 2 and Q 3 is without incision or transverse perforation.
- a relief perforation 417 and 418 or 419 and 420 is provided at both ends of both the incision 415 and the transverse perforation 416 (FIG. 164). These relief perforations 417 ... 420 run at least approximately at right angles to the incision 415 or to the transverse perforation 416 and thus parallel to the longitudinal edges 402 and 403.
- the relief perforations 417 ... 420 are expediently arranged in the line of alignment of the cutting lines 408 and 409, along the the bleed is later cut off.
- the relief perforations should at least not lie within the two cutting lines but at most slightly outside of them.
- the length of the relief perforations 417 ... 420 depends on various circumstances, including e.g. on the thickness and rigidity of the paper in the plane of the paper and on the number of cross folds and the resulting number of fields surrounding each other in the winding. In the simplest case, a simple perforation cut is sufficient. In other cases, two or three, rarely more, perforation cuts are more appropriate.
- the relief perforations 417 ... 420 can already be attached to the paper web or to the paper web sections or to the individual sheets for the carrier webs. They have to be attached at the latest before the beginning of the folding processes, because they are intended to facilitate them. This means, among other things, that the relief perforations also with such Self-mailers should be attached, in which, for example, because of a larger number of fields lying one above the other, the longitudinal perforations for the tear-off edge strips are only attached to the finished roll after the folding operations have ended.
- the field with the surface section Q 1 is first folded forward over the transverse fold point 411 to the field with the surface section Q 2 (FIG. 163).
- the field with the surface section Q 4 is then folded forward over the transverse fold point 413 to the field with the surface section Q 3.
- a row of fields for example the one with the surface sections Q 1 and Q 2, is folded forward onto the other row of the fields with the surface sections Q 3 and Q 4 (FIG. 167).
- the roll 414 is completely folded.
- the cutting strips 406 and 407 are cut off along the cutting lines 408 and 409. This creates the finished sales letter 421 (Fig. 171).
- 172 shows the position and mutual assignment of the different surface sections as well as their (slight) mutual displacement.
