Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a light mobile mortar fire unit, in particular high power mortar.
Due to the absence of an internal damping system or mechanism for long-range ballistic fire, the mortars have a significant recoil force when fired.
The short duration of application of this force makes it even more dangerous for the carrier material.
Generally, a mortar is mounted on a base plate by means of which it rests on the ground during the firing. It is generally positioned via a bipod assembly. To stabilize the assembly at the time of the firing, the plate has a pronounced relief according to three projections in edges arranged in a star in the main directions of thrust. The anchoring of this type of base plate in the ground guarantees sufficient stability to ensure high shooting accuracy. In the case of a mortar towed and mounted on a train of two wheels, the mortar is always supported on the base plate and the bipod assembly is constituted by the train of wheels. The plate collects and transmits the recoil energy to the ground with maximum efficiency.
By way of example of the state of the art, the vehicle described in patent CH-A-336,724 is cited, which is a heavy vehicle not comprising a chassis and the central part of which lowers to come into contact with floor. Despite this support on the ground, it is necessary to provide additional support devices which give this heavy vehicle an exceptional difficulty and slowness of implementation.
The necessities of long-range combat with retaliation lead, for reasons of efficiency and security, to wish for self-propelled firing units of great mobility.
Mobility requires the choice of a rather light vehicle, while heavy load-bearing vehicles capable of supporting the recoil of this type of mortar without breakage are of little interest because of their dimensions constituting a target of choice and their characteristic slowness.
In addition, their high cost does not allow a nation to build up a sufficient fleet to ensure the sure effectiveness of a mortar offensive.
The present invention makes it possible to reconcile the imperatives of cost, mobility and mechanical ability to resist without breakage to the brutal and violent thrust of the retreat of a mortar.
The object of the invention is to give a firing unit the necessary rapidity to build up and evacuate the firing zone, so as not to constitute immediately after firing a potential target for retaliation.
To this end, the present invention relates to a mortar firing unit comprising a carrier vehicle and a mortar mounted on a base plate characterized in that the carrier vehicle has a retractable suspension allowing the chassis to descend rapidly and in that the base plate is connected to the chassis of the vehicle via an elastic connection.
The mobility ensuring the effective exit speed from the firing zone and the all-terrain characteristics of the carrier vehicle as well as its speed of implementation constitute the main advantages of the invention.
In addition, the lower volume and weight of this vehicle does not imply significant cost prices for heavy units capable of also carrying this type of armament.

The mobile firing unit according to the invention consists of a light all-terrain carrier vehicle, with crawler trains or with wheel trains. This vehicle has the particularity of having a retractable suspension of the oleopneumatic, mechanical, electrical or other type, making it possible to lower the chassis to bring a support support in contact with the ground in the firing position, said support being connected in an elastic manner. with the frame or with another support carrying the mortar.
The first embodiment is shown in figures from 1 to 4. The following figures relate to the second embodiment.
Although we have chosen to represent these two modes on separate vehicles with crawler trains and then with wheel trains, there is no reason to retain any limitation on the type of vehicle specific to each mode.
With reference to FIG. 1, the mobile firing unit according to the invention consists of a light all-
As indicated, one of the main characteristics according to the invention consists in providing a retractable suspension of the vehicle making it possible to quickly put the
In Figure 2, the
An embodiment of this suspension is shown in FIG. 3. It comprises on each side and on each
At the end of the shot, and by reverse movement, the chassis goes up and the firing unit can roll in all terrain course.
In the event that the vehicle makes a shot on very hard ground, one can take advantage of the inertia provided by the mass of the vehicle to completely eliminate the effect of rebounding. In this case, the vehicle is supported on the base plate.
On the other hand, on a more soft ground, the mass of the vehicle can favor the anchoring and, consequently, the stabilization of the base plate on the ground and avoid, during a shooting at low incidence, to undergo a sliding or a shift.
In general, the invention makes it possible effectively to attenuate the violent effects of the shock wave following the shooting, effects which are transmitted almost entirely to the ground.
In Figure 4, we see, in more detail, the manner in which the assembly formed by the
The
A typical example of this suspension is shown in Figure 5. It will be described in detail below.
The other embodiment shown in figures from 5 to 8 consists in adapting the barrel of the mortar on a
The
The
A particular elastic suspension assembly has thus been produced which has a very effective self-damping function which makes it possible to completely and quickly neutralize all the oscillatory effects generated by the shot.
As can be seen in FIG. 8, in the firing position, the suspension of the vehicle collapses until it contacts the bottom 23 of the chassis with the ground to produce the support and lateral stabilization surface on the ground.
The total surface of the bottom constituting the ground support but above all the elastic suspension with a very pronounced self-damping function is sufficient to withstand without damage the mechanical forces and the shock wave following the firing even under low incidence.
