Definitions

  • the present invention relates to ski poles in which the length of the strap can be adjusted to adapt it to the size of the gloves or the user's hands.
  • Ski poles generally comprise a tubular rod, the lower end of which is pointed so as to fit in the ground or in the snow, and the upper end of which is capped by a handle having a diameter greater than that of the rod and intended for receive the user's hand.
  • the handle consists of a hollow body comprising a sleeve surrounding the end of the rod and closed by an upper head.
  • Known handles are generally provided with a wrist strap comprising a strip, for example one to two centimeters wide, the two strands of which are brought parallel to themselves and inserted into the same housing of the handle head to be secured to this handle .
  • the central part of the strap goes around the user's wrist.
  • the wrist strap transmits the support force between the hand and the stick, and prevents the stick from being lost.
  • the strap is divided into two parts, the end of the first part carrying a loop in which engages in an adjustable and known manner the end of the second part, the loop being a device commonly used for securing adjustable from two ends of straps. Adjustment using such a device is long and particularly difficult if not impossible to carry out with gloves.
  • the loop is necessarily made of a rigid material, and constitutes a painful point in contact with the wrist; in addition, the free end of the strip leaving the loop is not damaged by anything and constitutes an unsightly and unpleasant element.
  • Improved adjustment devices are also known in which at least one of the strands of the wrist strap is secured to the handle by means of a lever accessible from outside the handle body and articulated on the body along a transverse axis, the lever comprising a main arm forming an operating member and a secondary projection angularly oriented from the axis towards the inside of the body; the strap is unlocked when the lever is moved away from the handle body, and the strap is locked when the lever is pressed against the handle body.
  • a lever accessible from outside the handle body and articulated on the body along a transverse axis
  • the lever comprising a main arm forming an operating member and a secondary projection angularly oriented from the axis towards the inside of the body
  • the strap is unlocked when the lever is moved away from the handle body, and the strap is locked when the lever is pressed against the handle body.
  • the object of the present invention is in particular to avoid the drawbacks of known adjustment devices by proposing a new adjustment device which is particularly easy to use, easy to maneuver even with gloves, and which can be actuated using a very weak force so that it can be used by children.
  • the device allows this adjustment without affecting the general performance of the stick, and in particular without increasing the size of the stick head; it is sought, for certain applications, to secure the wrist strap and the handle as close as possible to the upper end of the handle head, in particular for applications to alpine ski poles. We also try not to increase the weight of the handles, or even to decrease it.
  • the device of the invention allows very rapid adjustment, so that the user does not hesitate to maneuver it very often, and in particular each time he puts on or takes off his gloves.
  • the device for adjusting the length of the strap is kept permanently locked by the hand of the user when the latter is in the normal position for using the stick, avoiding the adjustment of the strap.
  • the device is self-locking, so that traction on the wrist strap does not produce adjustment.
  • the lever in the locked position, is pressed against the handle sleeve in a longitudinal direction with its free end down, so that, in normal use, the user's hand keeps it pressed against the sleeve.
  • the best hold of the lever is obtained by placing it on the front face of the sleeve, opposite the strap exit relative to the handle body.
  • the lever can be of considerable length, and for example of the same length as the handle body, and it forms the front face of the handle.
  • the lever is articulated on the handle head along an anterior transverse axis disposed in the vicinity of the upper end of the head; the handle head comprises an anteroposterior passage traversed by at least one of the strands of the strap; the lever pinches the strap strand at the exit of the anteroposterior passage during that it is in the locked position, and frees the strap end when it is in the unlocked position.
  • the lever includes a secondary protuberance which, in the locked position, clamps the strap against an anterior part of the handle body.
  • the stick according to the invention comprises a tubular rod 1 whose upper end 2 is capped by a handle 3.
  • the body of the handle 3 comprises a sleeve 4 surrounding the end 2 of the rod 1, the sleeve 4 being closed at its upper end by a head 5.
  • the handle is generally held in a determined direction, and an anterior face 6 and a posterior face 7 are defined, the palm of the hand being applied to the posterior face 7 and the fingers surrounding the anterior face 6.
  • the handle 3 is provided with a wrist strap 8 formed by a band, the two end strands of which are secured to the handle.
  • the handle head 5 comprises an anteroposterior passage 9 crossed by the wrist strap 8.
  • the two strands of the wrist strap 8 are introduced into the anteroposterior passage 9 through its rear end 19.
  • the first strand 10 of the strap emerges from the front end 11 of the passage 9 to be secured to the handle by an unlockable blocking device, outside the passage 9, while the second strand 12 is secured to the handle inside passage 9 by all means of attachment such as screws, or rivets.
  • the second strand 12 can also be secured to the handle 5 by a hooking device shaped to be unhooked under the action of a tension of the strap 18 of a predetermined value. A safety device is thus produced.
  • the handle sleeve 4 has, on its front face 6, a longitudinal groove 13 occupying the entire height of the handle.
  • This longitudinal groove 13 receives a lever 14 accessible from outside the handle body, articulated on the handle head 5 along an anterior transverse axis 15 disposed in the vicinity of the upper end of the head, so that the lever 14 can be folded against the front face 6 of the handle sleeve with its free end down, that is to say towards the rod 1 of the stick.
  • the wrist strap 8 exits laterally along the rear face 7 of the handle head 5, and the lever 14 is disposed against the opposite front face 6 of the handle body.
  • the lever 14 comprises a main arm 16 forming the operating member, and a secondary protuberance 17 oriented angularly from the axis 15 in a direction 1-1 forming with the direction II-II of the main arm an angle "a" less than four- ninety degrees.
  • the secondary protuberance 17 is oriented towards the inside of the handle, and forms a cam for gripping the first strand 10 of wrist strap 8 against a shoulder 18 of the handle body when the lever 14 is in the locking position shown in FIG. 1; the first strap 10 strand is released when the lever is in the unlocked position shown in FIG. 3.
  • the lever 14 is substantially the same length as the handle body and forms the front face 6 of the handle.
  • the lever 14 can be provided with a latching device, for example rounded lugs 25 engaging elastically in corresponding housings 26, the device being located in the vicinity of the free end of the lever, so as to promote the maintenance lever in the locked position.
  • a latching device for example rounded lugs 25 engaging elastically in corresponding housings 26, the device being located in the vicinity of the free end of the lever, so as to promote the maintenance lever in the locked position.
  • the excess part of the first strand 10 of the wrist strap is pressed between the handle sleeve 4 and the main lever arm 16.
  • the second strap 12 strand is secured to the handle inside the anteroposterior passage 9.
  • This fastening is ensured by means of a longitudinal screw 20, passed through a upper lumen 21 of the head 5 and penetrating into a part 22 of the handle body, the part 22 being inserted inside the tubular rod 1 of the stick.
  • the penetration of the screw 20 produces the lateral extension of the part 22 and the blocking of the handle on the rod 1, the screw 20 simultaneously passing through a strap of the wrist strap for blocking the second strand 12.
  • the second strand 12 of the strap can be fixed to the upper wall of the head 5, for example by a rivet passing through this upper wall and a slot in the strap.
  • this embodiment leads to a slight increase in height between the strap attachment and the upper end of the head, which is unfavorable, in particular for alpine ski poles.
  • the operation of the device is as follows: in the unlocked position shown in FIG. 3, the first strand 10 of the strap is free, and the user can then adjust the size of the strap 8; when the desired dimension is reached, the user lowers the lever 14 against the sleeve 4 as shown by arrow 23, so that the protrusion 17 progressively approaches the shoulder 18 and clamps the first strand 10 against this shoulder to secure the strap.
  • the angle “a” has a value less than ninety degrees
  • any traction on the wrist strap produces a rotation of the lever 14 in the locking direction, and ensures self-locking of the wrist strap.
  • the surface of the protrusion 17 is striated to increase its adhesion to the strap, and to improve the self-locking effect. Unlocking can be obtained either by raising the lever 14, or by pulling the first strand 10 downwards. If the first strand 10 is longer than the handle, it protrudes from this handle from below and runs along the rod 1, along which it can be held by an elastic link 24.
