Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an alloy steel intended for heat treatments and usable, in particular, for cycle tubes.
  • An alloy steel is known under the name AFNOR 25CD4, the theoretical composition of which is: 0.25% carbon, 0.75% manganese, 0.25% silicon, 1% chromium, 0.22% molybdenum, less 0.035% phosphorus, less than 0.035% sulfur, the balance being formed by iron and the usual impurities.
  • the reference heat treatment consists of quenching at 860 ° C and tempering at 550 ° C.
  • a steel of this type is used for tubes of cycle frames. This steel must be brazed when the frames are manufactured. We seek to lighten the frames as much as possible and we need steels with maximum tensile strength.
  • the present invention aims to provide a steel derived from a steel of the previous type and having improved tensile strength.
  • the invention provides an alloy steel with dispersoids which, in addition to a good tensile strength, has a remarkable ability to deformation in hot and cold and a good ability to braze.
  • the desired objective is achieved by a steel resistant to traction and to fatigue and having good brazing properties, comprising by weight, 0.23 to 0.29% of carbon, 0.23 to 0.28% of silicon, 0.15 to 0.25% molybdenum, less than 0.035% phosphorus, less than 0.035% sulfur, 1 to 1.35% manganese, 0.20 to 0.40% chromium, 0.08 to 0 , 15% vanadium, optionally up to 0.1% copper, up to 0.01% tin or 0.01 to 0.02% aluminum, the balance being formed by iron and impurities usual.
  • the carbon content is between 0.23 and 0.29% by weight.
  • the steel contains manganese in a proportion of between 1 and 1.35% and preferably between 1.10 and 1.20%. This element strengthens the tensile strength.
  • the phosphorus or sulfur content does not exceed 0.035%.
  • the steel contains chromium with a content of between 0.20 and 0.40% and preferably between 0.25 and 0.30%.
  • the steel contains molybdenum with a content of between 0.15 and 0.25%.
  • the steel contains vanadium with a content of between 0.08 and 0.15% and preferably between 0.08 and 0.12%. This element gives steel an improved tensile strength by forming ultrafine precipitates (dispersoids).
  • the silicon content is between 0.23 and 0.28%.
  • the nickel content is less than 0.20%.
  • Aluminum is added to the steel so that the final aluminum content is between 0.01 and 0.02%. This addition is carried out in the form of a wire, in an ingot mold. Aluminum acts as a fine grain stabilizer without having a role of deoxidizer.
  • Steel can contain residual elements such as copper and tin.
  • the maximum tolerated content is 0.1% for copper and 0.01% for tin.
  • the heat treatment of the steel according to the invention corresponds substantially to the reference heat treatment of 25CD4 steel.
  • This standard heat treatment consists of quenching at around 860 ° C and tempering at around 550 ° C.
  • the steel grades A and B above were tested by tensile strength, fatigue and brazing tests.
  • the steels according to the invention have good tensile strength. This tensile strength is of the order of 860 N / mm 2 .
  • 25CD4 steel has a tensile strength of the order of 760 N / mm2.
  • the steels according to the invention exhibit remarkable resistance to fatigue.
  • the steels according to the invention are entirely suitable for brazing because they allow overheating up to 1100/1200 ° C without altering the mechanical properties.
  • the steel according to the invention is particularly suitable for manufacturing tubes intended for the manufacture of cycle frames.
