Definitions

  • the invention relates to an ammunition unit for barrel weapons according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • the sabot should only be granted the smallest possible proportion of the total mass of the projectile.
  • the sabot material engages in a transmission area, in which high shear forces occur, between projections on or in recesses in the surface of the flight floor. To safely absorb the shear forces, the transmission area must extend over a sufficient contact area between the two different materials. Because the sabot. but should also quickly and completely separate from the missile when leaving the pipe, difficulties arise from his described training. To counter them, it is proposed in US Pat. No. 3,148,472, inter alia, to arrange regions over the length of the launch tube to be arranged between such normal calibres. This is intended to generate pulsation voltages which promote its subsequent decay in the sabot material.
  • US Pat. No. 3,148,472 does not take into account an endballistic performance increase by amplifying a propellant charge. The only way to accommodate them would be to enlarge the conventional cargo space. However, this put in addition to a disadvantageous extension of the concerned Ammunition unit or an increase in the diameter of the propellant charge further structural changes to the gun. Furthermore, an increased propellant charge led to additional wear on the already complex tube.
  • the invention has for its object to achieve a reliable increase in end-ballistic performance in an ammunition unit of the type described above while avoiding the disadvantages and difficulties described.
  • a missile 10 having a large length / diameter ratio with a longitudinal axis 11 on a penetrator 14 has a tip 12 on the front and a stabilizing tail 15 on the rear.
  • the sabot 2o has an essentially caliber-like part with a circular cylindrical circumferential surface 33, a front inflow surface 25 and a rear gas pressure receiving surface 22. The latter extends from a front outer edge 23 to a rear inner edge 24 and has a sagging profile.
  • the inflow surface 25 extends from a front end edge 26 which surrounds the tip 12 (or in FIG. 4 a circumferential region 18) of the missile 1o at a radial distance to a rear edge 27 which closely surrounds the missile 10.
  • the inflow surface 25 forms a stowage pocket, a rear zone 27a extending beyond the rear edge 27 against an arrow 13, which indicates the direction of the weft.
  • a transfer region 16 between the sabot 2o and the flight projectile 1 which extends between the edges 27 and 24, are not shown, corresponding to each other unevenness, such as an incised into the flight projectile 1o thread or the like for longitudinally axially acting - fit between the Sabot 2o and the missile 1o arranged.
  • a propellant charge sleeve 40 has a rear region 41 of a diameter adapted to a cargo space and a front part 42 of an outer diameter which is substantially the same as the pipe caliber.
  • the front part 42 extends from an area with the projections 29 into the vicinity of the outer edge 23 of the gas pressure-receiving surface 22.
  • a centering element 43 which radially supports the stabilizing unit 15 is arranged.
  • the rear part 41 of the propellant charge sleeve 4o serves to receive a propellant charge 5o, while a space 28, which extends above the gas pressure receiving surface 22 to an unspecified inner surface of the front part 42 of the propellant charge sleeve 4o, is reserved for a propellant charge section 51.
  • the latter serves to increase the final ballistic performance by increasing the launch energy.
  • the gas pressure receiving surface 22 has a sealing cover 35 with a sealing lip 35 'in the vicinity of the outer edge 23.
  • sealing elements 38 adapted to the groove 37 are arranged in the region of a butt joint 36 (see FIG. 8) between the segments 21 of the sabot cage 20 in a groove 37 which extends essentially from the outer edge 23 to the inner edge 24 .
  • the sabot 2o has sealing elements 38 only in a front butt joint region, which is not described in any more detail, and which extend essentially from the transmission region 16 to the peripheral surface 33.
  • a barrel weapon intended for firing has a transmission area between a cargo space and the caliber part of the barrel, the clear diameter of which is essentially corresponds to the outer diameter of the part 42 of the propellant charge sleeve 4o.
  • an unspecified inner surface of the part 42 takes over the length of the latter to support the radial projections 29 in order to ensure an additional securing of the positive connection between the missile 1o and the sabot 2o in the transmission area 16 from the beginning of the shot development.
  • the drive cage 2o has no radial projections in the region of the inner edge 24 of the gas pressure receiving surface 22. In the area of the edge 27 (24), it surrounds the peripheral area of the penetrator 14 with a mating surface 36 '(36 ").
  • the groove 37 arranged in the butt joint for receiving the sealing element 38 extends from the area of the peripheral area 33 into the vicinity the mating surface 36 ". Adjacent to the latter is a sealing ring 39 '.
  • the sealing element 38 can consist of a material to be inserted into the groove 37 but also pourable or sprayable into the latter.
  • the end region of the groove 37 is closed with an O-ring 39 which projects partially over the circumferential surface 33.
  • the inflow surface 25 has no region 27a which extends rearward beyond the edge 27.
  • the penetrator 14 with its tip 12, not shown here, can also penetrate a circular plane 26e spanned by the end edge 26.
  • FIG. 5 shows a third exemplary embodiment of the ammunition; unit for a barrel weapon with an axially widened cargo space, the conical transition surface of which corresponds to a conical surface 46 'of the sleeve 4o.
  • the peripheral surface 33 of the sabot 20 is enclosed by an inner surface (not shown) of the tube wall during loading.
  • a circular-cylindrical compensation body is provided, the inside diameter of which is of the same caliber.
  • each of the radial projections 29 can be assigned a rail-shaped propellant charge in accordance with the slow combustion behavior.
  • a propellant charge sleeve 4o extends axially over the drive cage 20 to such an extent that a sleeve mouth 45 encloses the edge 34. It thus offers the flight floor 1o and the driving cage 2o optimal protection against damage during storage, transport and when loading or feeding. Its inside diameter is the same caliber and it requires an appropriate cargo space for the barrel weapon.
  • the outer edges 15 'of the stabilizing tail 15 are circumscribed by a circular cylinder of the same caliber. This embodiment is particularly suitable for automatic barrel weapons.
  • the sabot 2o has no radial projections 29.
  • a fifth embodiment differs from the first, third and fourth essentially by an axial extension of the radial projections to ribs 31 from the inner edge 24 over the entire gas pressure receiving surface 22 to the outer edge 23. If the Propellant charge 52 is made of several parts for manufacturing reasons and thus has butt joints 53, it is recommended to use the latter over the butt joints 36 between to arrange the sabot segments 21 offset, as shown in Fig. 8.
  • the missile 10 in the transmission area 16 is designed to be broken off in a targeted manner.
  • unevenness 16.1,... 16.5 provided as form-locking means are simultaneously designed as predetermined breaking points.
  • the transition cone 15 is included in the transmission area 16.
  • the unevenness 16.1, ... is assigned a respective smallest diameter d e . They separate from one another a tip body 12 'penetrator sections 19.1, ...
  • the propellant charge sleeve 40 can be at least partially combustible. In closed combat rooms, for example inside an armored turret, an associated loss of space-consuming empties proves to be advantageous.
  • the respective sabot can. 2o be designed without radial projections 29 or ribs 31, since due to the propellant gas pressure also acting radially on the gas pressure receiving surface 22, a required positive connection between the missile 10 and the propellant cage 2o is ensured in the common transmission area 16.
  • this not only simplifies a particular production process, but also reduces the mass proportion of the sabot in the mass of the projectile, which is also due to a gain in space for enlarging the space 28 for the additional part 51 or 52 of the propellant charge to increase the launch energy to increase the final ballistic performance of the respective flight level 1o benefits.
