Definitions

  • Drum washing machines as are common in European households, usually wash in two steps. In the main wash cycle, the laundry is first cleaned using a washing powder. This is followed by several rinses. A fabric softener is added to the last rinsing bath for post-treatment. This should give the laundry a soft, fluffy feel and convey pleasant wearing properties, even if the laundry has to be dried under unfavorable conditions.
  • the desired delayed effectiveness can therefore only be achieved if the cationic plasticizer is in powder form and is subsequently added to the washing powder.
  • the cationic plasticizers have a lower tendency to crystallize, the spray drying process cannot be used.
  • the roller drying process also presents considerable difficulties because of the slow crystallization and solidification of the products. Significant heat of crystallization is also released, which causes the finished powders to cake again.
  • Detergents are known as prior art (EP-A 0008829), which are based on a mixture of cationic, anionic and nonionic detergents, the hydrophobized silicate material which is premixed with wax being added as a foam-regulating agent.
  • EP-A 0 004121 discloses a detergent based on nonionic and - in the form of quaternary ammonium compounds - cationic detergents which contain phosphate and 0 to 10% silicate, such as sodium silicate, to improve the level of preference. No silicate is present and in an appropriate formulation.
  • EP-A 0111 074 filed on September 23, 1983 with priority from November 27, 1982, published on June 20, 1984 (prior art according to Article 54, 3 EPC) relates to a laundry softener concentrate consisting of a mixture of one or more laundry softeners, synthetic silica and optionally one or more solubilizers.
  • quaternary ammonium compounds and alkylimidazolinium compounds containing lipophilic radicals known as laundry softeners and having surface-active properties can be used as cationic surface-active substances.
  • Such connections are e.g. B. in Chemistry and Industry, 1969, pp. 893 u. 894.
  • radicals R I , R 2 , R 6 , R 8 , R9 and R IO fatty acid alkyl radicals, preferably with a C chain length of C 16 to C 18, are usually used.
  • EU-A 406 and DE-A 3 025 369 A number of other possible connections are mentioned in EU-A 406 and DE-A 3 025 369. The following may be mentioned in particular: methyl-bis (tallowamidoethyl) -2-hydroxypropylammonium metholsulfate, N, N-dimethyl-bis (isopropanolic acid ester) ammonium metholsulfate, N-tallow-pentamethylpropylenediammonium chloride.
  • Suitable auxiliaries are, in particular, nonionic surfactants, such as, for. B. are described in DE-A 3 025 369, in particular reaction products of fatty acid ethanol amide or fatty amines with ethylene oxide and / or propylene oxide, which act as dispersants or emulsifiers and may optionally have an additional plasticizing effect.
  • nonionic emulsifiers are those based on oxyalkylates, e.g. B. reaction products of ethylene oxide with alkylphenols or fatty alcohols.
  • auxiliaries are: oleyl alcohol polyglycol ether, nonylphenol polyglycol ether or stearic acid monoglyceride polyglycol ether.
  • Common additives are in particular fragrances, dyes and optical brighteners.
  • a highly absorbent silica in particular one with 250 to 600 m 2 / g, preferably 350 to 500 m 2 / g (BET), is used as component B).
  • Suitable fine-particle highly absorbent carrier silicas with the largest possible specific surface area are produced by precipitation and spray drying and are commercially available.
  • the powdery fabric softening agents are produced by combining 60-80 parts by weight of a fabric softener based on one or more nitrogen-containing cationic surface-active substances with at least one hydrocarbon group with at least 8 carbon atoms bound to the nitrogen atom, which optionally contains conventional additives Powder mixer optionally together with auxiliaries and / or fragrances on 20-40 parts by weight of highly absorbent silica.
  • Suitable mixers are, for example, commercially available ploughshare mixers.
  • the cationic plasticizer is admixed with the silica, and any of the above-mentioned quaternary imidazolinium and ammonium compounds can be used, regardless of which structure is present. Furthermore, properties of the plasticizer are not affected by the type of anion. It is also immaterial whether the plasticizer is in liquid form or must first be melted in order to be admixed with the silica as a melt. Commercial quaternary plasticizers also often contain solvents, especially lower alcohols and glycols, such as e.g. Isopropanol, 1,2-propylene glycol or hexylene glycol. These solvents generally do not interfere, i. that is, a plasticizer can be mixed with up to 25% isopropanol, for example with silica, to a fine powder.
  • solvents especially lower alcohols and glycols, such as e.g. Isopropanol, 1,2-propylene glycol or hexylene glycol.
  • laundry softeners which are dissolved in the abovementioned nonionic surfactants can be applied to the silica as such solutions.
  • the nonionic surfactants applied together with the cationic fabric softener naturally do not interfere with the washing process.
  • the powdery fabric softening agents obtained in this way can be mixed with the usual household detergents based on anionic and nonionic surfactants for full laundry and 60 ° laundry without problems.
  • the plasticizer powder can be granulated by suitable control of the speed and temperature of the ploughshare mixer.
  • the grain size increases two to three times.
  • Such detergents are usually based on anionic and nonionic surfactants and, if appropriate, foam inhibitors and usually contain complexing agents, ion exchangers, bleaching agents, bleach activators, stabilizers, graying inhibitors, enzymes, optical brighteners, corrosion inhibitors, fragrances, dyes, adjusting agents.
  • the fabric softening agents according to the invention do not have the above-mentioned disadvantages of the fabric softening agents known to date, added to the detergents.
  • the fabric softener can be easily produced and mixed into the usual detergent powders.
  • the cationic constituents of the fabric softener according to the invention are not complexed with anionic surfactants. Rather, the crystalline structure of the fabric softener according to the invention ensures a delayed dissolution of the cationic fabric softener component, so that the dirt in front of the fiber is detached and solubilized in the wash liquor by the easily soluble anionic surfactant, the anionic surfactant being used accordingly.
  • the delayed-dissolving cationic plasticizer can then be drawn onto the fiber unhindered.
  • the carrier silica contained in the fabric softener remains in the wash liquor and is no longer detectable on the finished washed textile. Negative influences on the washing process, laundry or washing machine could not be determined.
  • a commercial heavy-duty detergent with the following composition was used as the washing powder:
  • silica with a surface area of 500 m 2 / g (Sipernat * 50 S, Degussa) are placed in a Loedige mixer. A melt of 70 parts of dimethyldistearylammonium chloride is slowly run in with constant stirring. The mixer is then set for optimal shear. The mixture is stirred for a further 30 minutes and a free-flowing powder is obtained.
  • m silica having a surface area of 450 2 / g (Sipernat ® 50, Degussa) are introduced into a Loedige mixer under slow stirring and 72 parts by weight of tallow alkyl 1-methyl-2-a solution of 75% -3-Talgamido-ethylimide-azolinium methosulfate in 25% isopropanol while the mixer is running, sprayed onto the silica at a pressure of 3 bar using a suitable nozzle.
  • the mixer is set for optimal shear. Mixing is continued for about 20 minutes until a uniformly flowing powder free of lumps is obtained.
  • carrier silica 24 parts by weight of carrier silica are placed in a ploughshare mixer (from Loedige) and 68 parts by weight of 1-methyl-2-oleylalkyl-3-amidoethyl-imidazolinium methosulphate are initially undiluted with continuous mixing at a speed of 120 rpm sprayed. 8 parts by weight of nonylphenol polyglycol ether (prepared with 9 moles of ethylene oxide) are then sprayed on in the same way. The mixer is then set to optimum shear and sheared for 30 minutes until the grain size of the powder has stabilized. The powder is then ready for filling.
  • carrier silica 4.5 parts by weight of carrier silica are initially introduced into a ploughshare mixer (from Loedige) and 10.5 parts by weight of the melt of a mixture of 75% N, N-bis-talgamidoethyl- N- (2-hydroxyethyl) -N-methyl-ammonium methosulfate and 25% 1, 2-propylene glycol sprayed onto the silica.
  • the mixing process is then continued for 30 minutes with optimal shear until the grain size is adapted to that of the washing powder to be used.
  • the fabric softener formulations shown in Table 1 were prepared in the same manner as described in Examples 1 to 3.
  • Both plasticizers contained approximately 25% isopropanol. In each case 70 parts by weight of the plasticizer were adsorbed onto 30 parts by weight of precipitated carrier silica with a special surface area of 450 m 2 / g (according to BET) in a ploughshare mixer.
