Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for drying photographic film supports, with a drying chamber in which slot nozzles and transport rollers are arranged on two opposite sides of the transport path of the layer support, a heated air via lines to the blowers sending the slot nozzles in a circulation space, in which the from the drying chamber air escaping into a recirculation duct passes through this recirculation duct, and with a fresh air supply into the recirculation space.
- a device of a similar type is known from FR-A-1 098 271.
- the use of pairs of transport rollers is generally known per se, and z. B. by US-A-3435539, which describes an apparatus for drying photographic supports of the type mentioned above.
- Devices of the type mentioned initially provide a circulation circuit in which air is sent from the blower via a heater into a drying chamber and the air emerging from the drying chamber is sucked in again by the blower. To prevent the air emerging from the drying chamber from entering the room in which the device is located, this cycle is closed off in a so-called circulation space from the surroundings. A chimney for the very humid exhaust air usually leads to the outside and fresh air is supplied at any point.
- These known arrangements are unsatisfactory in their efficiency, since both the removal of the moist air and the supply of fresh air take place in an uncontrolled manner. This also fluctuates the moisture in the drying air as it is sent into the drying chamber. In addition, a considerable amount of energy is required to maintain the operating temperature.
- the object of the invention is therefore to develop a device of the type mentioned in such a way that an essentially constant air humidity is maintained in the dryer and its operating temperature is kept constant with a low power supply.
- a drying chamber and the circulation space are surrounded by an insulating shaft which is essentially formed on the top and on both sides of the device.
- the fresh air supply and the mouth of the insulating shaft are provided on the underside of the circulation space on the upper side of the insulating shaft.
- Fig. 1 denotes a frame on which a dryer 2 is attached.
- the dryer 2 has a lower part 3 and an upper part 4, which is hinged to the lower part 3 via a hinge 5.
- the pivot axis of the hinge 5 runs parallel to the transport direction of the layer support, so that the upper part 4 can be swung open in the direction of the arrow 7.
- the parting plane between upper part 4 and lower part 3 also represents the transport plane 6 of the layer support.
- a drying chamber 8 is provided in the interior of the dryer, in each of which there is a nozzle and transport arrangement 9 in the lower part 3 and in the upper part 4, which is shown in detail in FIG. 2.
- the pressure chamber 10 located in the upper part 4 is connected via a line 12 to a circulating air blower 13 and the pressure chamber 10 in the lower part 3 via a line 12a to the same circulating air blower 13.
- At the outlet of the circulating air blower 13 there is a heater 14 which heats the escaping air for both lines 12 and 12a.
- recesses 15 are provided, each of which represents a connection to air ducts 16, which are formed on both sides of the drying chamber 8.
- the two air ducts 16 open into a circulation space 17, which is located below the drying chamber 8 and in which the air circulation fan 13 is accommodated with its suction side.
- the part of the dryer consisting of drying chamber 8 and air ducts 16 is surrounded by an approximately U-shaped insulating shaft 18, which essentially consists of one on each Side at a distance from the wall of the air duct 16 further outer wall 19 and a horizontal cover wall 20 above the pressure chamber 10 is formed in the upper part 4. Recesses 21 are provided in the cover wall 20.
- the insulating shaft 18 opens out on both sides of the dryer 2 into the lower region of the circulation space 17.
- a further blower namely an exhaust air blower 22, is provided on the frame 1, the suction side of which is connected to two pipe sockets 23, each of which opens into an air duct 16.
- a hose 24 is attached, which leads into a chimney, a fume cupboard or outside.
- FIG. 2 shows a perspective view on an enlarged scale of part of a nozzle and transport arrangement 9, namely from the lower part 3 according to FIG. 1.
- the nozzle and transport arrangement 9 which extends transversely to the transport direction
- Has transport rollers 25 which are mounted in the side walls 8a of the drying chamber 8 (Fig. 1).
- the arrangement 9 has sheets 26 and 27 which are bent in a U-shaped and parabolic-like manner.
- the parabolic-like bent sheets 27 face with their open side to the transport plane of the development material and have an opening width that is slightly larger than the diameter of the rollers 25.
- the U-shaped bent sheets 26 are approximately twice as wide as the opening width of the sheets 27 and each form an exhaust duct that leads through the openings 15 of the drying chamber 8 into the air ducts 16.
- the U-shaped sheets 26 and the parabolic sheets 27 are arranged alternately across the width of the dryer transversely to the transport direction.
- a side wall 26a of a U-shaped sheet 26 and the closer side wall 27a of the adjacent parabolic-bent sheet 27 each form a slot nozzle 28, the two tapering ends of the parabolic-bent sheets 27 parallel to the side part 26a of the U-shaped bent sheet 26 and thus run substantially perpendicular to the transport plane 6 of the drying and developing goods.
- the parabolic-like sheets 27 are formed with at least one bending edge on each side, so that their smaller opening width means that they have reliable dimensional stability over the entire dryer width.
- webs 29 are attached between the legs of the U-shaped sheets 26, which run in or slightly oblique to the transport direction of the layer support and may have a slight increase above the nozzle height without this increase reaching into the transport plane 6.
- the webs 29 ensure a constant distance between the legs of the U-shaped sheets 26, which at the same time ensures a uniform distance between the nozzle walls 27a and 26a of the nozzles 28 due to the above-mentioned dimensional stability of the parabolic-bent sheets 27, so that spacer elements according to the invention the nozzles 28 can be omitted.
- the exhaust air blower 22 does not return all of the air from the air ducts 16 back into the blower 13, but rather a certain percentage of it is drawn off through the intake manifold 23 and sent via line 24 to an area outside the room in which the dryer is located located.
- suction of the air creates a negative pressure, so that fresh air is drawn in from the surroundings through the openings 21 and the insulating shafts 18.
- the fresh air reaches the suction area of the blower 13 through the shafts 18 drawn down deep into the circulation space 17, so that this blower always draws in a certain percentage of fresh air, heats it and sends it into the drying chamber.
- the insulating shafts 18 surround the drying chamber 8 on its top and on both sides, these shafts 18 simultaneously act as insulation, irrespective of whether air is drawn in by the exhaust air blower 22 or not. The consequence of this is that the heating power for the drying chamber 8 can be kept very low in the ready position of the dryer.
- This advantage is particularly important in connection with a development machine. If the drying chamber were only heated up when the command came from the developing machine that a film had been inserted, then with the short throughput times of 30 seconds, for example, this time would not be sufficient to bring the drying chamber to the desired temperature. Due to the insulation by the shafts 18, however, the drying chamber, once heated, can be kept at almost the operating temperature with only 10% of the normal operating power, so that even after a very rapid development development process, the drying chamber is ready for operation.
- FIG. 3 shows an alternative to the embodiment shown in FIG. 1.
- a control flap 30, which is connected to a servomotor 31, is arranged in the intake port 23a for the exhaust air blower 22.
- the servomotor 31 is in turn connected to a computer 32, in which the signal line of a humidity sensor 33 leads.
- the fan 13 and its lines have been omitted in FIG. 3.
- the humidity sensor 33 can sense the humidity of the exhaust air from the drying chamber 8 and report it to the computer 32.
- a threshold corresponding to the permissible humidity is set in the computer 32. If this is exceeded, the flap 30 must be opened further by means of the servomotor 31, so that more moist air is discharged via the exhaust duct 24. If a lower humidity is reported, the flap 30 can be closed more or less according to the reported humidity value.

Description
The invention relates to a device for drying photographic film supports, with a drying chamber in which slot nozzles and transport rollers are arranged on two opposite sides of the transport path of the layer support, a heated air via lines to the blowers sending the slot nozzles in a circulation space, in which the from the drying chamber air escaping into a recirculation duct passes through this recirculation duct, and with a fresh air supply into the recirculation space.
A device of a similar type is known from FR-A-1 098 271. In addition, the use of pairs of transport rollers is generally known per se, and z. B. by US-A-3435539, which describes an apparatus for drying photographic supports of the type mentioned above.
Devices of the type mentioned initially provide a circulation circuit in which air is sent from the blower via a heater into a drying chamber and the air emerging from the drying chamber is sucked in again by the blower. To prevent the air emerging from the drying chamber from entering the room in which the device is located, this cycle is closed off in a so-called circulation space from the surroundings. A chimney for the very humid exhaust air usually leads to the outside and fresh air is supplied at any point. These known arrangements are unsatisfactory in their efficiency, since both the removal of the moist air and the supply of fresh air take place in an uncontrolled manner. This also fluctuates the moisture in the drying air as it is sent into the drying chamber. In addition, a considerable amount of energy is required to maintain the operating temperature.
The object of the invention is therefore to develop a device of the type mentioned in such a way that an essentially constant air humidity is maintained in the dryer and its operating temperature is kept constant with a low power supply.
This object is achieved by the means listed in the characterizing part of
With the invention it is achieved that only the air enriched with moisture is at least partially removed from the circulation space, but no fresh air. This makes it possible for the air humidity to remain constant. In addition, a drying chamber and the circulation space are surrounded by an insulating shaft which is essentially formed on the top and on both sides of the device. The fresh air supply and the mouth of the insulating shaft are provided on the underside of the circulation space on the upper side of the insulating shaft. This ensures that the dryer hardly radiates heat to the outside. This in turn means that, on the one hand, the environment is not polluted by the heat radiation and, on the other hand, the dryer can always be kept at the operating temperature in the ready position, so that only a minimal power supply to the dryer is necessary in the ready position.

In Fig. 1, 1 denotes a frame on which a
In the
Der Isolierschacht 18 mündet an beiden Seiten des Trockners 2 in den unteren Bereich des Umwälzraumes 17.The part of the dryer consisting of
Below the
The U-shaped
In order to achieve nozzle slots of constant width, the parabolic-
- Warm air is blown from the
blower 13 via the 12 and 14 into thelines pressure chambers 10 of the lower part 3 and theupper part 4 at a temperature of approximately 65 °. This warm air builds up in thesepressure chambers 10 and finally penetrates into the nozzle andtransport arrangement 9. Here, the air is directed via thenozzles 28 at a speed of approximately 10 m / sec onto the development material or the layer support. The layer carrier is transported through thedrying chamber 8 by therollers 25, which are connected to a drive (not shown). The highly turbulent drying air passes through theexhaust ducts 26 and theopenings 15 into the circulatingair ducts 16 and into thecirculation space 17, from where it is sucked in again through the suction side of the blower, heated and circulated.
However, the
After the insulating
This advantage is particularly important in connection with a development machine. If the drying chamber were only heated up when the command came from the developing machine that a film had been inserted, then with the short throughput times of 30 seconds, for example, this time would not be sufficient to bring the drying chamber to the desired temperature. Due to the insulation by the
In this case, a
In operation, the
