Description

The present invention relates to a washing machine or the like the evacuation of water of which is effected by means of a drain pipe and which is provided with a safety and alarm device against flooding in case of said rod falling on the ground.

In patent US-A No. 3346000, a washing machine is described, the drainage circuit of which comprises, between its end opening into the waste water pipe and the bottom of the washing tank and downstream of the drain pump, an inverted U-shaped tube, the top of which is at a level at least equal to that of the maximum level provided in the tank, the ascending branch being connected to the drain pump and the descending branch connected to the wastewater pipe. In addition, the top of the top is vented using a tube connected to the U-shaped tube and opens into the top of the washing tub above the maximum level reached by the water.

The device is designed so as to avoid any siphoning both of the water from the tank to the waste water pipe and from the latter to the washing tank.

It should also be noted that an additional result obtained with the aid of this device, in the event that the connection of the descending branch of the U with the waste water pipe becomes defective or accidentally disconnected, is that the he existence of the inverted U offers the advantage when the tank is filled with water and the pump is stopped (in the washing phase for example) that this water cannot flow out of the machine and cause flooding. On the other hand, when the pump is in operation, this U is of no help.

The invention relates precisely to washing machines for which the evacuation of water is effected by means of a hose which is not fixed in a sealed manner to the sewage pipe and more particularly those of which the outlet evacuation hose is mobile and is called "drain rod" because of its butt end. This drain rod is generally made of flexible material to be adapted on the rim of a sink, a washbasin or a bathtub, its height being able to be included in a fairly wide range, for example 0.6 to 1 m above the base of the machine.

The object of the invention is to guard against the drawbacks due to the mobility of this drain rod and to the fact that this rod can fall to the ground and that it may result in flooding.

The object of the invention is to guard against this danger of flooding when the pump is stopped (for example washing phase) but also when this pump is running (for example draining phase).

To achieve these goals, the invention provides a washing machine with washing tub provided at its lower part with an orifice followed by a drain pump with connected outlet, as according to US-AN patent 3346000, to the ascending branch of an inverted U-shaped pipe whose top, located at a height at least equal to that of the maximum water level in the tank, is vented and whose descending branch brings the drained water towards the sewer line, remarkable in that the downward branch of the inverted U is connected to said line by means of a removable drain pipe, a pressure detector being connected at the connection point of said descending branch and of the drain rod, and in that it comprises alarm and stop or start control means of the drain pump supplied electrically by a circuit including associated control means pressure sensor.

The invention is based on the fact that the value of the pressure in the waste water evacuation pipe at the connection of the descending branch of the U and the drain pipe is a function of the position of the drain pipe, either in the air, either on the ground, and also a function of the on or off state of the drain pump and that the values of this pressure can be classified in relation to each other according to the circumstances: if P o and P 1 are the values of this pressure, pump stopped, drain stick respectively on the ground and in the air, and P z , P 3 the values of this pressure, pump running, drain stick respectively on land and in the air, all of these values are such that:

Figure imgb0001
Figure imgb0001
So that the invention can intervene in any circumstance and during the various operating phases of the machine when the drain rod falls, the control means associated with the pressure detector and inserted into the electrical supply circuits of the drain pump and alarm means, have several independent degrees of sensitivity and in conjunction with the different pressure values indicated above.

The invention will be better understood with the aid of the following description accompanied by drawings which represent:
  • Fig. 1: a partial diagram of the washing machine with its water drainage system.
  • Fig. 2: a diagram of the means of alarm and control of the drain pump in the event of a fall to the ground of the drain rod.

In fig. 1, the washing machine is not shown completely. Appears the washing tub 11 provided at its base with a drain orifice 12 to which is connected the pipe 13 which opens into the drain pump 14. Beyond the drain pump, the water evacuation pipe comprises the inverted U-shaped tube 15, the top of which is 10 and the ascending and descending branches respectively 16 and 17. The descending branch is connected to the drain rod 18 comprising, in the normal operating position, an ascending part 19 and a butt 20, which butt is for example suitable for the descent of wastewater 22. The U-shaped tube is connected in the vicinity of the top 10 in the open air or more precisely in the washing tank above the maximum water level in this tank using the hose 23. The washing machine includes a pressure sensor in the drain pipe at the level of the junction of the downward part of the inverted U and the drain rod. This detector comprises for example a tube (24) initially filled with air connected to the pipeline at point A substantially at the location of said junction. The tube ends in a cylindrical manometric chamber with two bodies respectively 25 and 27 separated by the movable membrane 26. The displacement of 26 in the chamber which takes place perpendicular to itself depends on the level of water reached in the tube 24, which is linked to the pressure in the flow pipe at point A, which itself depends on the position of the drain rod, adapted to 22 or on the ground, and also of the stop or running state of the drain pump, this level being higher the higher the pressure in A in the pipeline.

Différents cas sont à considérer:

  • a) la pompe est à l'arrêt, la cuve est soit vide ou remplie d'eau, la canne 18 est en l'air (adaptée sur la descente 22). Le niveau d'eau dans la branche descendante 17 et la canne 18 sont égaux. Le niveau d'eau dans 24 est ht correspondant à la pression P1 au point A;
    Figure imgb0002
    Figure imgb0003
    Figure imgb0004
Different cases are to be considered:
  • a) the pump is stopped, the tank is either empty or filled with water, the rod 18 is in the air (adapted on the descent 22). The water level in the descending branch 17 and the rod 18 are equal. The water level in 24 is h t corresponding to the pressure P 1 at point A;
  • b) the pump is stopped, the tank is empty or filled with water, the cane falling to the ground. Due to the air intake 23, no siphoning from the tank is possible, only the water contained in the branch 17 flows to the ground, the drain rod and the tube 24, the level h o in it becoming substantially 0 corresponding to the pressure P o at point A which is none other than atmospheric pressure with the relationships:
    Figure imgb0002
  • c) the pump is running, the tank filled with water, the cane is on the ground. Due to the pumping, the branch 17 is not empty as is the cane. Water is forced back into the tube 24 to a level h 2 . The pressure P 2 at point A and the level h 2 are found to satisfy the inequalities:
    Figure imgb0003
  • d) the pump is running, the tank filled with water, the cane in the air. The branch 17 and the cane 18 are filled with water. Due to the backflow of water by the washing pump and a certain height of water in the drain pipe, the pressure P 3 at point A and the level h 3 in the tube 24 are found to satisfy the inequalities:
    Figure imgb0004

Figure imgb0005
Finally, according to the circumstances corresponding to the cases abcd, the water levels in the tube 24 and the water pressure at point A are respectively h o h, h 2 h 3 and P o P, P 2 P 3 satisfying the inequalities :
Figure imgb0005

In the case of the moving diaphragm pressure gauge in fig. 1 and shown in fig. 2, the control is effected by the displacement of this membrane 26. To this end, the membrane 26 is provided on the side of the body 27 of the part 31. This part is fixed in a non-deformable manner to 26. Its ends 32 and 33 in the form of a sphere for example press on the lever arms respectively 34 and 35, which are connected elastically to the wall 36 by means of springs respectively 37 and 38 acting in compression and are movable around the axes respectively 39 and 40 perpendicular to the plane of the sheet. These lever arms are electrically conductive on their part extending from their respective axis to points K and L respectively. The stroke of the rotational movement of these partly conductive lever arms extends for each of them, during of the movement of the membrane 26, between the pairs of studs 41,42 and 43, 44 respectively. The studs 42 and 44 are each connected to the ground potential respectively through the drain pump 45 and an apparatus 46 emitting an alarm ( sound or light), while the studs 41 and 43 are isolated or grounded. The axes 39 and 40 are both brought to the potential of the HV supply voltage of said pump and alarm. The height positions of the studs 41 and 42 in the chamber body 27 are determined so that when the pressure in the evacuation pipe at point A corresponding to P 2 and P 3 and therefore for the corresponding positions of the membrane 26, the lever 34 is in contact for its conductive part with the pads 41 and 42 respectively, which corresponds respectively to the stop or the running of the drain pump for a position of the drain rod which, let us recall, is respectively on the ground or in the air. The positions of the pads 44 and 43 are determined in relation to those of the pad 41 so that when the pressure in the pipeline corresponds respectively to the pump stopped, the rod on land (P o ) or in the air (P i ), and for positions corresponding to the diaphragm 26, the lever arm 35 is in contact respectively with 44 or 43, the contact between 41 and 34 being ensured, which causes the activation or not of the alarm 46, depending on whether the pressure is P o or P ,.

It follows, with such a system, that on the one hand, in the event of a drain rod falling to the ground while the pump is running, there is successively or practically at the same time stopping the pump, then the pressure going from P 2 to P o , when the alarm is activated, and on the other hand, in the event of a drain rod falling to the ground when the pump is not running, it remains stationary and the alarm is activated.

This system could be faulted and subject to false alarm when the drain rod is in the air it would not contain water (pressure in A: P o ). This could be the case when after falling to the ground, it would have been returned to its normal place. It is then advisable to test the system, for example at the start of a washing cycle. The invention provides for priming the drain rod. At the start of the cycle, the pump is supplied by a circuit comprising the contactor 47 with two positions 48 and 49 respectively, this contactor being in position 48. This contactor is linked to the time relay 50 by means of the link 51, said relay in series with the resistor 53 and the diode 54 being placed in parallel on the supply of the pump. This relay whose action constant is of the order of a few seconds, depending on the capacity 52 and the resistance 53, switches the contactor from position 48 to 49. The part of the system described first can then operate as already explained, "note" the position of the drain rod on the ground or in the air and possibly take the appropriate preventive measures.

It goes without saying that the system described can be the subject of variants which are inspired by what has just been described and form part of the invention. In particular, the pressure detector at point A may have a deformable membrane, the deformation of said membrane then controlling the electrical circuits supplying the pump and the alarm transmitter.
