Description

The invention relates to a waterproof watch case intended to receive a movement of small thickness and comprising a middle-bezel on which a glass is mounted in a sealed manner, a bottom mounted notch on the middle and a casing frame supporting the movement. .

Fashion today requires very thin watches and it is not uncommon to find movements fitted in these watches whose thickness is around a millimeter. Such a constraint in miniaturization obliges the manufacturer to deviate from conventional solutions that are too bulky and to find other original solutions, whether at the level of the components forming the movement or, as will be seen here, at the level of the box. herself.

A watch case having some resemblances to that which will be described later is known from patent CH-A 619 345 where the casing frame is coated, externally, with a sealing gasket having two flanges extending radially towards the inside and covering the edges of the casing frame. This construction, as it appears from the drawings presented, is clearly not intended for a thin watch. We note in particular the significant bulk caused by the edges and especially the hooking system of the frame projections on the beads that have the middle-bezel and the back respectively, a system which is not practicable on a frame whose height would be around a millimeter.

We cited in the research report the document CH-A 310877 which relates to a waterproof watch case and bumper, characterized in that it comprises a casing circle constituted by a metal ring surrounded by a bandage made of plastic and compressible material, said bandage having an outer rim which is pressed against the middle part by a member for closing the box. This construction relates to a large watch where the bandage is mounted in such a way that the movement floats in the box. This would not be suitable for current small-scale watches where such a construction would prevent miniaturization of the whole especially by the edge of the bandage which inevitably leads to increasing the diameter of the finished product. We also note that the construction cited does not allow, by definition, a precise centering of the movement in the case, which would not be suitable for a so-called high-end watch.

We also cited in the research report document US-A 2256200 which also relates to a bumper watch and where, therefore, the centering of the movement relative to the case lacks total precision. In addition to this, we notice that the bottom is adjusted on a monocoque box inside which comes to rest the elastic bandage. This construction in no way allows an external draft to be provided around the periphery of the bottom to give the assembled part an even thinner appearance, as will appear in the present invention. For this to be possible, it would be necessary for the joint between the bottom and the box to be made in a place where the outer periphery of the bandage covers said joint.

To remedy the aforementioned drawbacks, it was proposed in application CH 631 045 G to construct a case applying to an extra-flat watch. To this end, the cited document provides for a casing circle formed by a metal plate overmolded with an elastic material while the case back and the middle are notched. Thus, in this construction, the thickness of the overmolded plate is low and less than 2 mm. However, this solution has the drawback of requiring overmolding, which, on the one hand, can only be carried out on a metal plate and which, on the other hand, makes it necessary to provide as many molded parts as there are casing variants.

Thus, the present invention proposes to overcome the drawbacks mentioned above by presenting a new construction provided with the means which appear in the claims.

The invention will now be described with the aid of the description which follows and of the drawing which illustrates it by way of example in which:
  • Fig. 1 is a cut at 9 o'clock in the thickness direction of the watch.
  • Fig. 2 is a cut at 3 o'clock in the thickness direction of the watch.
  • Fig. 3 is a section along the line AA in FIG. 2, on a scale twice as large.

Figure 1 shows how the timepiece object of the invention is assembled. On the middle part-bezel 1 is mounted in a sealed manner the crystal 2. To reduce the height of the part as much as possible, it is preferable to stick the crystal in a notch formed in the periphery of the middle. It is clear that other solutions are possible which call for example a seal interposed between the middle part and the glass. The crystal 2 and the dial 3 are separated by the flange 4 forming part of the middle part 1. The movement 5 is held in place by a first flange 6 of a casing frame 7. This frame also carries a second flange 8 engaged in a groove 9 made in the inner part of the middle part. The rim 8 is centered in the groove 9 by the shoulder 21. An elastic bandage 10 surrounds the frame 7 surmounted by its second rim 8 and is also engaged in the groove 9. The bottom 11 is engaged in the middle part 1 by means of two hooks 12 and 13 and when the watch is assembled, the bandage 10 takes the form of a rectangle as shown in the figure. The first long side of this rectangle surrounds the frame 7 and the second long side covers the joint 14 formed by the middle part 1 and the bottom 11. The tightness is ensured by the short sides of the rectangle which are pressed respectively against the groove 9 and the inner wall of the bottom 11. It will be understood that the height of the bandage 10, when it is not yet mounted in the part, slightly exceeds (0.1 to 0.2 mm) the height of the void formed by the middle part and the bottom, to allow, at the time of assembly, the crushing of the bandage and the assurance of a good seal.

Figure 2 for its part uses the same components which have been discussed in connection with Figure 1 and also shows how the control rod of the watch is mounted. This rod 15, capped with a crown 16, passes through the casing, the elastic bandage 10, the frame 7 and is then coupled to the mechanism of the movement 5. An orifice 17 is drilled in the bandage 10 whose diameter is slightly smaller than the stem diameter. By this means a good seal is ensured at the point of passage of the rod if care is additionally taken to polish the rod at this same place.

As the overall thickness of the assembled housing is very small, there will generally not be enough material to drive out a guide tube from the rod. Figure 3, which is a section along the line A-A of Figure 2, shows that the middle part 1 and the bottom 11 are each provided with an opening 18, 19 in the form of U whose open branches look at each other. The orifice 17 of the bandage 10 is located in the extension of the U-shaped openings. The absence of a guide tube has the advantage of avoiding an additional seal inherent in any system of this kind.

The construction which has just been described is suitable both for a round or shaped housing. In the case of a round box, the casing frame 7 may be made of metal while it will advantageously be made of plastic if we are dealing with a shaped box. Generally, the elastic bandage 10 will be removably secured to the frame in the manner of a tire mounted on a rim.

Thus the elastic bandage as described makes it possible to considerably reduce the height of the watch since it consists of a simple and single surround of rectangular shape which takes up very little space and ensures both a watertight mounting of the base on the middle and a sealed passage of the control rod. As can also be seen, this construction makes it possible to provide an external draft 20 around the periphery of the bottom, which contributes to giving the assembled part an even thinner appearance.

It should also be noted that the construction described simplifies the mounting operations: after mounting the glass 2 on the middle part 1, the assembly formed by the dial 3, the movement 5, the frame 7 and its bandage 10 is introduced from below. after which the rod 15 is introduced and the box is closed with the bottom 11.
