Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a waterproof watch case comprising a middle part, a flange surmounting the middle, a crystal pressing on the flange and at least two claws.
  • the waterproof watch described therein is provided with a bezel which is fixed to the upper face of the middle part by fixing feet.
  • the frame bezel has claws distributed on opposite sides of the frame so as to press on at least two bevelled faces of the glass and to press the latter against a seal.
  • this provision also does not allow construction edge to edge of the glass on the middle.
  • Figure 1 shows a first alternative embodiment of the box according to the invention.
  • a ring 2 On the middle 1 are mounted in superposition a ring 2 forming a flange and a crystal 3.
  • a seal 4 which is held in place by a notch 13 formed under the ring 2.
  • the glass is stuck on the ring and the operation is illustrated here by the traces of glue 5 and the tube 6.
  • openings 7 In the periphery of the glass are made openings 7 which are arranged opposite holes 8, 9 respectively drilled in the ring and the middle.
  • each of the claws 10 is provided with a threaded portion 11 placed under the element which overflows on the glass.
  • This tapped part engages in the opening 7 and, in the variant shown here, comes to rest on the upper face of the ring 2. For this to be so, it is naturally necessary that the height of the part tapped 11 is greater than the thickness of the ice. If this height exceeds only a few hundredths of the thickness of the ice, it will have the illusion that it is the claw 10 which holds the ice in place.
  • the screw 12 In the tapped part 11 is screwed the screw 12, which passes through the holes 8 and 9 to finally fix the glass assembly 3, ring 2 and the seal 4 on the middle part 1 by pressing the tapped part 11 on the 'ring 2.
  • the invention is not limited to an elongated and unclosed shape of the openings 7. These openings could be in the form of a hole provided that the configuration of the tapped part is adapted accordingly. We would then find the opening as it is provided in connection with FIG. 5 which will be discussed later.
  • FIG. 1 also shows the time-setting rod 16 which is introduced into the lateral opening 17.
  • Figure 2 is a section along line A - A of Figure 1. It shows how the various components of the housing look when they are assembled. There is a superposition of the middle part 1, the ring forming a flange 2, the crystal 3 and the claw 10. This assembly is held in place by the screw 12, the head 18 of which rests on a clearance 19 made in the underside of the middle part .
  • the screw 12 passes through the holes 9 and 8 drilled respectively in the middle part 1 and the ring 2 and is screwed into the tapped part 11 forming an integral part of the claw 10.
  • the figure shows that the height of the tapped part 11 is greater as the thickness of the glass 3 so that a small space 20 is formed between the claw and the glass.
  • the threaded part 11 thus presses directly on the ring 2 when the screw 12 is tightened, thus indirectly fixing the crystal to the box since said crystal is glued to the ring itself tight against the middle.
  • the seal is ensured, on the one hand, by the seal 4 housed in the notch 13 formed on the underside of the ring and, on the other hand, by the glue interposed between the glass and the face top of the ring.
  • the present invention provides for machining a groove 21 on the upper face of the ring 2.
  • This groove not only has the advantage of receiving the excess glue and thus preventing it from drooling on the inner edge of the ring, but also ensures a continuous sealing bead over the entire circumference formed by the groove.
  • the claws 10 give the assembly not only a new aesthetic appearance, but also a functional role of fixing between them the various elements making up the upper part of the box.
  • FIG. 3 which is a section along line B - B of FIG. 1 shows that the periphery 22 of the crystal 3 is very slightly set back from the periphery 24 of the middle part 1 and that there remains a rim 23 which surrounds the ice.
  • FIG. 4 is a construction variant derived from FIG. 3 where it can be seen that the periphery 22 of the crystal 3 is mounted edge to edge with the periphery 24 of the middle part 1.
  • Figures 3 and 4 show in sketch how the movement is mounted in the case.
  • the movement 25 is introduced through the bottom and the dial 26 abuts on the underside of the ring 2 forming a flange.
  • the enlargement circle 27 is then introduced and the whole is retained by flanges resting on millings and aimed at the movement.
  • the box is closed by a bottom 30 and sealed by means of the lining 31. This arrangement allows easy access to the movement and to the battery without having to dismantle the top of the box.
  • the first variant of the invention which has just been described is particularly suitable for boxes fitted with sapphire crystal.
  • the claws 10 were in direct contact with such a lens, there would first be a risk of the lens breaking when the screws 12 were tightened. Then, and above all, the lens would not withstand the shocks applied to it. non-uniform stresses caused by the point fixation provided by the claws.
  • Figure 5 shows a second variant of the watch case according to the invention. This construction differs from that described above by the fact that the claw 10 rests directly on the glass 3. Therefore, said construction will be reserved for a box equipped with a mineral glass glass, more elastic and therefore less sensitive to shock.
  • the flange 32 is made in one piece with the middle part 1 and the crystal 3 is pressed without gluing on the flange.
  • a seal 33 is stored between the glass and the flange in a housing 34.
  • the claw 10 is provided with a tapped part 35 in the form of a barrel engaged only in the opening 36 made in the glass, as it was the case in the previous variant, but also in an opening 37 made in the flange and the middle part.
  • a fairly large space is left between the lower end of the threaded portion 35 and the bottom of the opening 37 to allow the claw to bear directly on the glass when the screw 12 is tightened, the head 18 of which rests on clearance 19 made in the underside of the middle.
  • Figures 1, 2 and 5 show that the claw is arranged projecting around the circumference of the middle part. It is however obvious that we could conceive of another arrangement where this claw penetrates into the side of the middle to be flush with it.
  • FIG. 1 shows this metallization in the form of sectors 40 and of lines 41 which at the same time represent the hour markers. It is clear that any other form of decoration is possible.
