Abstract

A strip of impregnated and compressed foam material with delayed restoration which is rolled up into a roll, preferably for purposes of sealing, and particularly for improved sealing, the broad side of the roll is provided with a liquid-impermeable layer which adheres to the flank sides of the strip and which is expandable corresponding to the amount of restoration and has a spiral-

Description

The invention relates to a strip of impregnated and compressed foam wound into a roll with delayed recovery, preferably for sealing purposes.

The cell walls of the open-cell foam structure are lined with chlorinated paraffin in an impregnation process. The foam strip, which is wound in the compressed state, gradually returns in the unwound state. Such strips can therefore be used advantageously for closing joints. The restoring force brings a particularly adaptable system to the joint walls. The restoring effect lasts over longest periods of use (plastics under construction, 15th year (1980), H. 2, pp 66-68). Although the lining with chlorinated paraffin in particular already provides a certain degree of tightness against moisture penetration, the sealing effect is not always sufficient.

The object of the invention is to remedy the situation in that a satisfactory seal is achieved despite the use of an open-cell material which is favorable for the impregnation and which may have a large-pore foam structure.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that the broad side of the roll is provided with a liquid-impermeable layer which sticks to the side flanks of the strip and which has an extensibility corresponding to the extent of the provision and which can be torn along a spiral line corresponding to the strip winding joint is.

As a result of such a configuration, despite the use of foam with a large pore structure, an effective joint seal is achieved by the laid strips. The layer forms an effective moisture shield. For example, in the area of the joint walls, i.e. moisture that creeps sideways, is largely blocked by the moisture-repellent properties of the chlorinated paraffin-soaked cell walls that are already present. In addition, the partially compressed strip does not fully open the pores. Some even remain closed. This creates a kind of labyrinth. Since the layer expediently faces the joint depth, the other side of the strip facing the open air can also dry out well. The layer applied in the form of a film, skin, film or the like is the wound strip, i.e. assigned to the broadside of the role. The corresponding layer has an elasticity which corresponds to the extent of the resetting of the foam structure. The layer also acts as a delay factor. On the other hand, it is anchored to the strip side flanks in such a way that when a strip is unwound from the roll it tears along a spiral line corresponding to the strip winding joint. This can be achieved through a predetermined breaking zone. The layer can also be prepared using chemical agents, for example in the sense of greater fragility in the area of the winding joint.

Further advantages and details of the subject matter of the invention are explained below with reference to an exemplary embodiment illustrated in the drawings. It shows:
  • 1 the strip wound up as a supply roll, showing the liquid-impermeable layer, the latter partially broken open,
  • 2 shows the end view of the roll,
  • Fig. 3 is a cross section through the maximum reset strip on a larger scale compared to Fig. 1 and
  • Fig. 4 is a cross section in the region of a wall joint with foam strips used for sealing purposes.

The strip 3 wound on a core 1 and forming a roll 2 consists of foam. Its structure is such that the individual cells 4 which are adjacent to one another are connected to one another.

Der Schaumstoff ist imprägniert. Hierzu lässt sich bspw. Chlorparaffin verwenden. The foam is impregnated. For example, chlorinated paraffin can be used for this. This lines the cell walls 4 '. The strip 3 is wound up under tension so that, when pressed flat, it rests on the back R of the winding winding lying underneath. In this state, the strip 3 is only about a quarter to a third of its normal height.

The strip back R carries a self-adhesive layer 5, which is covered by a corresponding protective strip 6. With regard to the protective strip, it can be a paper strip with a wax layer or the like that facilitates detachment from the self-adhesive layer.

A broad side of the roll 2 is provided with a layer 7 bonded to the strip side flanks S there. It is a liquid-impermeable material. The layer 7 can be realized in the form of a film, a skin, a film or the like.

The exemplary embodiment is a thermoplastic film. The layer 7 formed therefrom has an extensibility which corresponds to the degree of recovery of the compressed strip 3.

The layer 7 is further formed such that it can be torn along a spiral line L oriented according to the strip winding joint 8. The strip section to be laid can thus be detached cleanly from the roll 2, taking the layer section anchored to the strip side flank S with it.

The cut, still flat strip section is inserted into the joint 9 to be sealed between two adjacent plates 10, walls or the like so that the layer 7 in the inner area of the gap 9 comes to rest. After resetting the foam, the layer 7 extends there as a moisture barrier with respect to the soil 11 or the like which still partially projects into the joint 9.

The self-adhesive layer 5 explained above, which adheres to the one joint-forming narrow longitudinal edge 10 'of the plate 10 there, serves to fix the position of the strip 3 used.

The line L which defines the tear-off path to a certain extent can be realized by a predetermined breaking zone. This can be easily achieved insofar as the narrow end edge 6 'of the protective strip, stabilized by the curvature of the roll, can be used as an abutment for an attached stamp which slightly melts the layer in its thickness. The strip side flank section, which is softer than this rigid edge 6 ', can be pushed back by pressing in the layer part.
