Definitions
- the invention relates to a smoke detector of the type defined in the preamble of claim 1.
- Such a smoke detector is known for example from CH-PS 417 405 (US-PS 3 316 410).
- a radiation source is controlled by a pulse generator and emits short-lasting radiation pulses.
- the evaluation circuit connected to the scattered radiation receiver is controlled by the pulse generator of the radiation source in such a way that, when scattered radiation is picked up, it can only output an output signal during the pulse phases of the radiation source. Interference pulses that occur between the radiation pulses are therefore blocked in the evaluation circuit and cannot trigger an alarm signal.
- the disadvantage here is that interference pulses which occur accidentally during the same time as the radiation pulses can trigger a faulty signal.
- a scattered-light smoke detector operating in coincidence is known from EP-PA 14 779, in which the evaluation circuit has a counting device which counts both the radiation source pulses and the output pulses of the radiation receiver and resets the counter to zero after an arbitrary radiation pulse in the case of an odd-numbered counter reading, but triggers a signal when a predetermined even number is reached.
- the evaluation circuit has a counting device which counts both the radiation source pulses and the output pulses of the radiation receiver and resets the counter to zero after an arbitrary radiation pulse in the case of an odd-numbered counter reading, but triggers a signal when a predetermined even number is reached.
- the occurrence of false alarms cannot be ruled out, since in the case of high-frequency electromagnetic interference, an interference pulse can be generated during each pulse.
- the circuit is complex and therefore less reliable.
- the temperature compensation can be carried out by a thermistor (GB-PS 1 172 354).
- the radiation emitted decreases sharply with increasing temperature. Attempts have been made to compensate for this decrease in radiation by connecting an NTC resistor in series with the LED (Motorola, European MOS Selection 1979, 9-334). However, the resistance values of the NTC resistors vary so much that the compensation achieved is not sufficient.
- the invention has for its object to eliminate the above-mentioned disadvantages of the known smoke detectors and in particular to provide a smoke detector in which a faulty signal output as a result of electrical interference is prevented and in which at the same time the reduction in smoke sensitivity caused by the temperature dependence of the radiation source elevated temperature is improved.
- an oscillator is provided for the power supply for the radiation source and an amplifier is provided for amplifying the output pulses of the radiation receiver, and the blocking pulse is generated by an electrical pulse of the oscillator and fed into the amplifier with the opposite sign.
- the amplifier is followed by a threshold detector, which evaluates the difference between the blocking pulse and the output pulse of the radiation receiver. In the absence of smoke, this difference is so great that the threshold value detector is actuated, thereby triggering a reset pulse for the counter. However, if there is smoke in the smoke measurement chamber, the difference becomes smaller and the reset pulse is suppressed.
- a high-frequency electrical disturbance which occurs as long as the radiation source emits radiation pulses, can at most generate an additional reset signal for the counting device. This makes the smoke detector safer against triggering false alarms.
- the radiation transmitter S consists of an oscillator which conducts a current of approximately 1 A approximately every 2 seconds for approximately 100 ⁇ s through the radiation source 1 consisting of a light or infrared radiation-emitting diode.
- the power transistor 2 switches on this current, which is limited by the resistors 3 and 4.
- the transistor 2 is driven by transistor 5 via the limiting resistor 6.
- Capacitor 7 and resistor 8 provide the positive feedback of the oscillator.
- the large capacitor 9 supplies the current pulse and is charged again via the resistor 10. The pulse is triggered as soon as resistors 11 and 12 at the base of transistor 5 supply the voltage which turns on transistors 2 and 5.
- the radiation sensor A amplifies the negative reception signal of the radiation receiver 13 and the positive blocking signal at the resistor 4, which is reduced by the resistor 14, via the coupling capacitor 15, the transistor 16 and the feedback resistor 17.
- the amplifier also contains the collector resistor 18 and the coupling capacitor 19 .
- the threshold detector N consists of the transistor 20, the base resistor 21 and the collector resistor 22.
- the integration level I consists of a counter 23; it receives a counting signal for each pulse from the resistor 6. If the negative difference between the blocking pulse and the receiving pulse is large enough, the threshold value detector N generates a reset signal which resets the counting device by at least one unit.
- the switching elements for resetting the counting device (23) can also be set up so that it is reset to zero. After 2 n-1 pulses, in which no reset pulse was generated, Q n goes from 0 to 1 and thus generates an alarm pulse.
- the flip-flop K consists of a thyristor 24, which is triggered by an alarm pulse from the counter 23, a limiting resistor 25, a lamp or LED 26 and a delay capacitor 27, which causes the firing of the thyristor to be delayed by at least the transmission pulse length after the alarm pulse .
- the circuit now has the effect that, similar to the circuit according to EP-PA 14 779, a certain number of successive pulses with a sufficiently high output pulse from the radiation receiver 13 are necessary in order to ignite the flip-flop K. If only one pulse is missing, the counter 23 is reset. Electrical disturbances which are picked up by the receiving cell can generally only generate a reset pulse and therefore cannot produce a faulty alarm signal.
- the decrease in the light output of the LED 1 at a higher temperature is compensated as follows: At a higher temperature, the base-emitter voltage at the transistor 5, at which the transmission pulse starts, becomes smaller. Because of the voltage division across the resistors 11 and 12, this means that the voltage across the capacitor 9 becomes lower at the start of the pulse at a higher temperature.
- the blocking pulse at resistor 4 is thereby smaller. The difference between the blocking pulse and the receiving pulse is smaller, which means that only a smaller output pulse from the radiation receiver is required to suppress the reset signal.
- the circuit also allows a smoke detector to be constructed in a simple manner, which becomes more sensitive when the temperature rises rapidly and, at a certain temperature, emits an alarm signal even without smoke. It is sufficient to connect an NTC resistor (not shown in FIG. 1) in parallel to the radiation receiver 13.
- the NTC resistor preferably protrudes from the outer casing of the smoke detector and can therefore react quickly thermally.
- the NTC resistor has a smaller resistance at higher temperatures and thus reduces the blocking pulse. As soon as this pulse is small enough, no reset pulse is generated and an alarm signal is produced.

Abstract
