Abstract

1. An internal combustion engine having at least two pistons co-axially arranged on a common piston rod and being slidable in cylinders having intake and exhaust ports, characterised in that the engine is controlled by the rotation of the pistons (3, 4) about the longitudinal axis thereof, each piston (3, 4) having at least one connecting bore (30, 31) extending from the piston wall to the piston head and communicating with the intake port (26, 27) or with the exhaust port (28, 29) of the cylinder (1, 2) depending upon the piston movement, and that the piston rod (5) is connected by means of a joint (15) allowing rotation of the piston rod to a crankshaft (10) from which the rotary drive of the piston rod (5) is derived.
