Description

The invention relates to an aerosol packaging with two separate chambers equipped with at least one valve each for different components to be mixed during use, in which the mixing takes place by actuating one valve of the chambers at a time.

In a packaging system of this type known from DE-GM 71 19 166, two pressure vessels combined into one unit are provided, the valves of which are to be operated together. When the valves are opened, the components are mixed together in a separate room. As with other two-component packaging systems of this type, such as are described, for example, in DE-OS 19 42 570, the mixing process required before use takes place outside of the chambers that originally received the components. A separate mixing room is therefore required, and both chambers must be able to withstand the pressure and the attack of propellant gases continuously.

The invention has for its object to reduce the effort for producing the aerosol packaging of the type mentioned and to design the packaging so that only one chamber must be permanently pressure-resistant and resistant to pressure. The solution according to the invention is characterized by the stacking of a first compo nente essentially pressure-free receiving upper chamber and a second component together with a substantially sufficient amount of propellant gas to lower chamber to expel the component mixture; a connection channel between the chambers which can be opened by means of a mechanical movement of the chambers and consists of a bottom valve of the upper chamber and a top valve of the lower chamber; and an independently operated top chamber discharge valve.

Due to the fact that the upper chamber itself is used as the mixing chamber of the components according to the invention, it is possible to store all of the propellant gas in the other chamber together with the second component before use, and with the aid of this propellant gas first the second component into the upper chamber - until Pressure equalization - to drive and then, when the head or discharge valve of the upper chamber is actuated, the mixture from the upper chamber is fed to the intended use with the help of sufficient propellant gas pressure. According to the invention, the upper chamber equipped with two openings can therefore be made of plastic. This plastic chamber can at the same time accommodate the second chamber, preferably designed as a monoblock box made of aluminum, in its downward extension. In principle, however, both chambers can also be customary aerosol packaging of any material composition, for example glass, metal or plastic.

The system according to the invention can be used for practically all products to be stored separately before use. For example, all hair color-changing products consisting of two components to be kept separately, such as tints, bleaching or coloring, as well as cosmetic products, but also glues, in particular two-component adhesives, two-component foam systems and two-component floor care agents, are suitable. In principle, these are applications in which the finished mixed product cannot be stored for later use for chemical or physical reasons. The system is therefore intended for a single application or for multiple applications that follow one another very quickly. As far as the volumes of the components to be packaged are concerned, the system according to the invention can be used relatively universally. It should only be ensured during the design that the amount of propellant gas in the lower chamber is sufficient to essentially deliver the total product volume. In addition, sufficient shaking space (in the upper chamber) should be provided for the mixture in many cases.

This additional shaking space in the upper chamber is expediently 5 to 50% of the volume of the mixture of the two components.

Of course, there is the possibility of filling the two components into one of the two chambers as desired; for example one component either in the lower or the upper chamber and the other component then vice versa in the upper or the lower chamber.

Further details of the invention are explained on the basis of the schematic representation of an exemplary embodiment.

The exemplary embodiment shown schematically in longitudinal section consists of a container designated as a whole with 1 and consisting of an upper sleeve 2 and a lower sleeve 3 with a cap 4 and an upper chamber 5 and lower chamber 6 inserted therein. The upper chamber 5 has a top valve 7 and a Bottom valve 8. The head valve 7 can be a conventional aerosol poppet valve, but it can also be fully integrated in a plastic chamber. The bottom valve 8 of the upper chamber 5 should basically be a conventional poppet valve. However, it can also be designed as a check valve which, due to its function, prevents the contents of the upper chamber 5 from flowing back (into the lower chamber 6). The lower chamber 6, which is usually in the form of a conventional aerosol can, has a head valve 9, which corresponds to the bottom valve 8 of the upper chamber 5 functionally like a mother-daughter valve of a conventional type.

The two product chambers 5 and 6 are arranged one above the other so that the star of the bottom valve 8 of the upper chamber 5 sits centrally above the top valve 9 of the lower chamber 6. The upper chamber 5 can be pressed against the lower chamber 6 (or vice versa) by mechanically displacing the chambers 5 and 6 relative to one another, for example by pressing on an external bracket or with the aid of a bayonet system, but also by screwing or toothing. By this relative movement opens the mother-daughter valve arrangement 8, 9 and thus the connecting channel 10 between the chambers 5 and 6.

Before the system is put into use, there is a first product, product A, in the upper chamber 5 without pressure, and a second product, product B, together with a propellant gas in the lower chamber 6. By assembling the mother-daughter system or daughter-mother system, the star of the bottom valve 8 of the upper chamber 5 opens the top valve 9 of the lower chamber 6, so that the product B with the aid of the propellant gas into the originally preferably unpressurized upper chamber 5 is pressed. The propellant gas also changes from the lower to the upper chamber until the pressure is equalized. Due to the function, this takes place only on one side, owing to the residual pressure in the lower chamber 6. that is, the products mixed in the upper chamber 5 do not flow back into the lower chamber. Depending on the type of components used, however, a check valve - for example instead of the bottom valve 8 or the top valve 9 - can be installed in the connecting channel 10 of the chambers 5 and 6 as an additional safeguard against the contents of the upper chamber 5 flowing back into the lower chamber 6.

The upper product chamber 5 can be equipped with one or two risers 11 and 12. One riser pipe 11 can end from the bottom valve 8 in the upper region of the upper chamber 5 within the product or the mixture. This allows foaming or mixing to be achieved or facilitated when the system is actuated. The head valve 7 of the upper chamber 5 can be equipped with a riser pipe 12 reaching into the bottom of the chamber. A similar riser pipe 13 can be provided starting from the top valve 9 of the lower chamber 6 - reaching to the bottom thereof. This riser pipe ensures that when the system is in a vertical position, almost the entire product volume of the lower chamber can be brought into the upper chamber.

To start up the two-component aerosol packaging according to the invention, the two chambers 5 and 6 are first pressed against one another approximately by the coupling path 14 in the direction of arrow 15. For this purpose, pressure can be exerted directly on the upper chamber 5, for example. By compressing the chambers 5 and 6, the connecting channel 10 between the chambers is opened, so that the component B contained in the lower chamber 6 flows together with propellant gas into the upper chamber 5 until pressure equalization. The mixture in the upper chamber 5 can - if necessary - be homogenized by shaking. The finished mixture can then be supplied to the intended use by actuating or opening the head or dispensing valve 7 of the upper chamber 5 via the spray head or applicator 16. The cap 4 is of course to be removed from the container 1.

Since the upper chamber 5 is only under pressure during the short period of direct use of the system according to the invention, corresponding measures for securing against a leak or decomposition of the contents or damage to the wall of this chamber are not necessary. Rather, it is sufficient to design the chamber 5 so that it can withstand the pressure increased by the penetrating propellant gas for a short time, namely when it is in use.

Design example:
  • 30 g of an ammoniacal coloring solution containing an oxidizing dye were placed in a 75 ml aluminum monoblock box; the can is closed. Another monoblock can made of aluminum with 50 ml content is filled with 35 g of a 3.6 or 9% stabilized H 2 O 2 solution and brought up to a maximum of 8 bar with propellant gas. The H 2 O 2 solution is pressed into the alkaline reaction solution and mixed well with it by means of a valve adapter system “mother-daughter system” or with the aid of two cans connected via an adapter system. The reaction mixture with a pH word of 9 can now be used as a tint or color via a foam valve, the top valve 7 of the upper chamber 5.
  • This system can also be used for bleaching, which requires a 12% H 2 O 2 solution. Other two-component products with H 2 O 2 as reactants can also be formulated. Surprisingly, it was found that despite the sometimes high proportion of H 2 O 2 in an alkaline medium, no increase in pressure due to any oxygen released was observed. The chamber pressure remains stable for several days.
