Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for stacking flat products, preferably printed products, obtained in a shingled stream, according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the feeder is a transporter with grippers arranged one behind the other in its conveying direction, which grasp the printed products individually and release them when triggered.
- two stacking units are arranged at a distance one behind the other, which are alternately fed with printed products.
- a conveyor belt arranged below the feeder and to the side of the stacking unit leads to the stacking shaft of each stacking unit and ends shortly before the stacking shaft.
- a triggering device Seen in the conveying direction of the feeder, at a distance behind each stacking unit, a triggering device that can be switched on and off is arranged, which opens the grippers that pass by in the switched-on state.
- the of Print products released to the grippers are taken over by the assigned conveyor belt and transported against the stacking shaft. By alternately switching the triggering devices on and off, either one or the other stacking unit is loaded.
- the printed products fed to the conveyor belts by the feeder in a scale formation are again placed in a scale formation on the conveyor belts.
- the printed products are also moved in a shingled stream against the stacking chutes and pushed into them, so to speak.
- the printed products fall into the stacking shaft.
- the time of this release cannot be precisely determined and cannot be influenced in any other way. It is therefore possible that the products do not fall into the stacking chute at regular intervals, which in certain circumstances can have an adverse effect on the quality of the product stack.
- the products shot in by the conveyor belts in the assigned stacking shaft are moved with their leading edge against a wall of the stacking shaft, through which they are then stopped in their movement imparted by the conveyor belt. Striking the product against the stacking shaft wall can damage the product.
- the above-explained principle of pushing the products into the stacking shaft in shingled formation also applies to the vast majority of other known stacking devices.
- the present invention has for its object to provide a device of the type mentioned, which allows a perfect and gentle stacking of the products with a simple design.
- the products are not conveyed from the side to the stacking space by means of a conveyor belt, but are moved over the stacking space by means of a conveying device which detects and releases the products individually.
- the control device Through the action of the control device, the products fed in scale form are released by the conveyor device as soon as they are above the stacking space into which they subsequently fall.
- the products conveyed to the stacking device are thus released from the scale formation above the stacking space and then travel individually and in free fall a short distance to the stacking space.
- the device according to the invention substantially deviates from the path previously taken, which, as already mentioned, consists of guiding the products in scale formation to the stacking space and then pushing them into this stacking space.
- these products are entered into the stacking space at substantially regular intervals, which favors the formation of a perfect stack.
- two stacking spaces alternately supplied with products are provided in a preferred embodiment.
- the single stack is emptied space formed from the resulting products an auxiliary or intermediate stack, which is introduced into the stack space after emptying it.
- the single figure shows a schematic side view of a device for stacking printed products obtained in a scale formation with two stacking units.
- the feed device for the printed products 1 in the present case is a conveyor 2, as is known from DE-OS 25 19 561 (and the corresponding US Pat. No. 3,955,667).
- the transporter 2 has grippers 3, which are anchored at intervals on a pulling element (not shown) and guided in a guide channel, each of which holds a printed product 1.
- the grippers 3 are moved in the direction of arrow A.
- a feeder, not shown, which feeds the printed products 1 to the transporter 2 is connected upstream of the transporter 2.
- This feeder can, for example, be a conveyor belt or be formed by the delivery arm of a rotary printing press.
- the printed products 1 are conveyed as a shingled stream S by the transporter 2.
- each printed product 1 rests on the preceding product in the manner of a roof tile, so that the leading edges 1 a of the printed products 1 are exposed and can be gripped by the grippers 3.
- Two release devices are used to open the grippers 3
- a signal transmitter 7 is further connected to this controller 6, which is connected upstream of the triggering devices 4 and 5. This signal transmitter 7 counts, in a manner known per se, the print products 1 running past it.
- These stacking units 8 and 9 are of a type known per se and can be designed, for example, in the manner described in the aforementioned DE-OS 27 52 513.
- Each stacking unit 8, 9 has a shaft-shaped stacking space 10 or 11, which is closed at the bottom by a stacking table 12 or 13.
- the stacking tables 12 and 13 can be raised and lowered in a manner not shown in the direction of the arrows B and C, respectively. Beneath the conveyor 2 there are supports 14 and 15 in front of the stacking units 8 and 9, on which the printed products 1 come to rest with their trailing edge 1b.
- the release device 4 is in the switched-on state, in which it causes the grippers 3 running past it to open.
- the other triggering device 5 is switched off.
- a gripper 3 is opened, the pressure detected by it is product released, as represented by the printed product designated 1 '.
- This released printed product 1 ' now falls over a certain distance in free fall into the stacking space 10 of the stacking unit 8 located under the triggering device 4.
- the printed product 1 "located in the stacking space 10 now comes on the stacking table 12 or on which it is located Stacking table 12 to be placed on the stacking table 12.
- the stacking table 12 is lowered in accordance with the increasing height of the stack 16.
- the stacking space 11 of the other stacking unit 9 is emptied.
- the emptying of the stacking space 11 has already been completed and the stacking table 12 is shown in its upper distortion, in which it is ready to receive products to be stacked.
- the triggering device 4 is switched off and the other triggering device 5 is switched on by means of the controller 6.
- the grippers 3 now run past the triggering device 4 with the printed products 1 they have detected and are only opened by the triggering device 5.
- the printed products released by this opening of the grippers 3 fall into the stacking shaft 11 of the stacking unit 9 located under this release device 5.
- the stacking in the stacking space 11 takes place in the manner described with reference to the stacking unit 8. While the printed products 1 are being fed to the stacking unit 9, the stacking space 10 of the previously loaded stacking unit 8 can now be emptied.
- the triggering devices 4 and 5 are switched over again by the control 6. This causes the stacking unit 8 to be loaded again with printed products 1 which are already on the described manner can be stacked in the stacking space 10.
- the grippers 3 are always opened at the same location, namely at the location of the triggering device 4 or the triggering device 5.
- the printed products 1 are accordingly controlled and always released at the same location. Since the grippers 3 are arranged at regular intervals, the printed products 1 are released at substantially the same time intervals, which facilitates an orderly stacking of the printed products 1.
- the print products 1 are not, as in the known solutions in a scale formation, brought to the side of the stacking space 10 or 11 and shot into it, but are pulled by the transporter 2 over the stacking space 10 or 11 and then dropped. In free fall, the products 1 cover the last distance between the conveyor 2 and the stacking space 10 or 11 in a substantially vertical direction. The printed products 1 do not hit the wall of the stacking space 10, 11 at great speed.
- stacking units are each supplied with printed products for a certain period of time in the manner described, whereupon the supply of printed products is interrupted for emptying the stacking shaft, i.e. is redirected to another stacking unit.
- two or more stacking units it is possible to process the continuously occurring printed products 1 without problems, without the incoming print product flow having to be interrupted or delayed.
- Such continuous processing of the incoming scale stream S is, however, also possible if only a single stacking unit is used, which is provided with an auxiliary stacking device on which the incoming printed products 1 are temporarily stacked during the emptying of the stacking space.
- the auxiliary or intermediate stack formed in this way is transferred to the stack space after the stack space has been emptied.
- Such a stacking unit is described for example in CH-PS 566 928.
- suitable means can be provided in the area of the triggering devices 4 and 5, which means synchronously with the Tripping devices 4 and 5 can be brought into effect on the printed products 1.
- stops can be provided which can be moved into the conveying path of the printed products 1.
- conveyor devices of a suitable design can also be used, e.g. the conveyor described in DE-OS 31 02 242 (and the corresponding GB-OS 20 68 892).

The printed products (1) arranged in a nested formation (S) are conveyed to two stacking units (8, 9) by means of a transport installation (2) provided with grippers (3) arranged one after the other in the direction of transport (A). These stacking units (8, 9) are arranged in tandem and below the transport installation (2). A device (4, 5) for opening the clamps (3) is fixed above each stacking unit (8, 9). One of the two opening devices (4, 5) is in the engaged state, in which it opens the clamps when they pass. The printed products (1) are drawn, by the transport installation (2), above the stacking spaces (10, 11) of the stacking units (8, 9). The products (1 ') released when opening the clamps (3) above a stacking space (10 or 11) fall and arrive after a short free fall in the stacking space (10 or 11). While stacking the products (1) in one of the stacking units (8), the other (9) is inactive allowing the stacking space (11) to be emptied. Subsequently, the opening device (4) is triggered and the other (5) engages so as to stack the products in the second stacking unit (9).
