1. 2. Sewing machine as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the needle plate receiving ledges (6a) are provided with interruptions (13) on either side of the needle plate (7) between mounting locations (10; 11) and a sliding plate (12).
3. Sewing machine as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that two cut-outs (14; 15) are formed approximately transversely to the sewing direction in the portion of the needle plate (7) opposed to the pressure bar (4).
