Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a clasp for jewelry chains consisting of a sheath and a hooking element capable of sliding in this sheath between an open position and a closed position.
  • the sheath In the most common type of clasps currently used, the sheath consists of a hollow ring, partially open, in which slides a curved rod pushed by a spring. This rod is operable by a stud which is integral with it and which allows, by bringing it back and holding it at the rear, to open the ring.
  • the object of the invention is to eliminate these drawbacks, a goal which is achieved in that it provides a clasp in which the hooking element comprises, on the one hand, a hooking head formed from a first and a second jaw and, on the other hand, at least one leaf spring which is joined to the first jaw and tends to move it away from the second to open the hooking head, the sheath allowing or opposing at this opening according to the position of the hooking element relative to the sheath.
  • the spring leaf joined to the first macho ⁇ re and a tongue joined to the second macho ⁇ re are connected, at their end opposite to the hooking head, by a bridge capable of being threaded in a chain end ring.
  • hooking element sliding in the sheath can be used for "anchoring" the two chain end rings, one being permanently threaded on the bridge and the other being detachably retained in the hanging head.
  • the clasp according to the invention comprises two leaf springs joined respectively to the two jaws and which tend to separate them, in which case the aforementioned tongue is a spring leaf.
  • a stop member is provided, possibly consisting of a pin disposed between the spring leaf and the tongue, and riveted on the opposite faces of the sheath.
  • the hooking element comprises a housing capable of coming into engagement with the groupille, in the closed position.
  • At least one of the jaws of the attachment head comprises, in the vicinity of its junction zone with the leaf of the spring, or of the tongue, a profiled projection so as to define, in the closed position, with the another jaw, a piece capable of encircling the part of a chain end ring retained by the jaws.
  • the housing capable of coming into engagement with the pin can then be provided at the junction between the projection and the leaf spring, or the tongue.
  • the clasp according to the invention comprises a sheath 1 and a hooking element 2 capable of sliding relative to each other, their deglidarization being however prevented by a pin 3 riveted on the opposite faces of the sleeve "1.
  • the fastening element 2 is composed of two spring leaves 4a and 4b joined, at one of their ends, to a jaw, respectively 5a and 5b, and, at their other end, to a point 6.
  • the two jaws 5a and 5b form a hooking head chage 7 dimensioned so that the surfaces 7a and 7b slide with gentle friction on the internal faces of the sleeve 1.
  • the jaw 5a comprises a projection 8 profiled, on the one hand, so as to define, in the closed position, a substantially circular area with the internal face of the jaw 5b and, on the other hand, a housing 9 at the junction with the spring leaf 4a, which housing 9 is adapted to engage with the pin 3, in the closed position.
  • the sheath 1 comprises, meanwhile, two notches 10 and 11 freeing the space necessary for the chain end rings to which the clasp is joined.
  • the device is used as follows: To allow permanent anchoring of one of the chain end rings 12 (FIGS. 6 and 7), the clasp is supplied assembled but without the pin 3 being riveted. It is thus possible for the fitter to remove this pin 3 and to slide the fastening element 2 out of the sheath 1 so as to be able to thread on the jaw 5b, the spring leaf 4b, then the bridge 6, the ring 12 previously closed and welded (such welding is not possible in the case of the spring ring, as seen above). The fastening element 2 is then replaced in the sleeve 1. Once the pin 3 reintroduced into the holes provided for this purpose and not shown, the fitter the edge, thus preventing the sheath and the element from being detached hanging.
  • the wearer of the jewel then introduces the chain end ring 13 between the jaws 5a and 5b, in the space defined by the internal face of these jaws and by the projection 8, then reintroduces the attachment element 2 in the sleeve 1, thus bringing the surfaces 7a and 7b of the hooking head 7, closed, in contact with the internal walls of the sleeve 1 (FIG. 3).
  • the projection 8 defines in the closed position and with the jaws 5a and 5b a circular space surrounding the part of the chain end ring 13 trapped in the clasp.
  • the sliding towards the closed position of the hooking element 2 is obtained either by pushing with the chain end ring 13 on the projection 8 according to arrow F1, or by keeping the chain in the palm of the hand , pushing on the sleeve 1 with the thumb and forefinger as indicated by the arrows F2 (FIG. 6).
  • the sliding is limited by the pin 3 which engages with the housing 9 provided at the junction between the projection 9 and the leaf spring 4a.
  • To open the clasp just hold the sheath 1 between your thumb and forefinger and pull on the part of the chain connected to the ring 13, as shown by the arrows F3 in FIG. 7.
  • the shape of the clasp according to the invention allows very easy handling while harmonizing perfectly with the profile of the chains, even the finest.
  • this clasp there is no particular position to observe since one pushes on the sheath in one direction to close it and in the other direction to open it.
  • the attachment element 2 which is the element subjected to the tensile forces, has no weaker breaking point than the chain for which it is intended.
  • the design of this device makes it a very robust compact system which, moreover, is easily disassembled in order to reassemble it on another piece of jewelry or to clean it if necessary. It suffices, in fact, to remove the pin 3 to release the element 2 and reassemble the assembly as described above.
  • the invention is not limited to the clasp described and shown. This can, indeed, vary in its dimensions and in its shape. For example, instead of being made from a rectangular section tube, the sleeve could be made from a circular or square section tube. It is also clear that the clasp can be combined with circular end rings as well as polygonal.
