Claims (12)

1. Apparatus for the film-packaging of articles, the latter being laterally offset in relation to the width of the film webs, the film being sealed by sealing means longitudinally and transversely of the articles, comprising a deflector rod which guides the film in semitubular form over the articles and which extends over several article lengths at a slight angle to the direction of movement of the film, and further comprising conveyor belts which are disposed beneath the film and which have suction holes via which a vacuum holds the film on the conveyor belt, characterised in that retaining and guide rollers (12) bear on the deflector rod (7); deflector rails (13) are provided to guide the bottom and top edges (14, 15) of the film (1) over one another at the narrow side (at 16, 17) of the articles; the sealing means (23) for sealing the film edges (14, 15) are disposed laterally adjacent the narrow side (at 16, 17) of the articles as considered in the direction of the film movement; and at least one suction belt (18) running above the deflected part of the film is disposed in the end zone of the deflector rails (13) in the region of the sealing means (23).
2.Apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that the deflector rod (7) extends at an angle of less than 25° to the direction of film movement.
3. Apparatus according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the or each conveyer beld (5) extends substantially continuously over the lenght of the deflector rod (7).
4. Apparatus according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that a plurality of consecutive conveyor belts (5) are provided, each extending over only portions of the length of the deflector rod (7).
5. Apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that a film cutting station for cutting at least one of the film edges (14, 15) is provided upstream of the station where the articles (2) are deposited on the conveyor so that the film (1) can be adjusted to match product size variations due more particularly to enclosures.
6. Apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the deflector rails (13) guide the edges (14, 15) of the film (1) flat one above the other on to the narrow sides (at 16,17) of the articles (2).
7. Apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the angle at which the suction belt (18) is inclined to the direction of the movement of articles (2) is adjustable.
8. Apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the sealing means comprise a sealing head (23) adjustable from above the film into a position below the same.
9. Apparatus according to claim 8, characterised in that a sealing station (6) comprising the sealing head (23) is followed by a cooling station for cooling the sealed overlapping edge zone of the film edges (14,15).
10. Apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that in the zone of the sealing station (6) following the sealing means (23) the conveyor belts (4, 5) are reversed around a roller (28) and another roller (31) and other conveyor belts (29) are provided which, in order to reduce the feed speed of the articles (2), move more slowly than the conveyor belts (4, 5) feeding the articles (2) and the film (1).
11. Apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the sealing means for sealing the transverse edges of the film (1) comprises a welding bar (26) with an electrode in the form of a knife-edge; recesses (36) are formed in the electrode (32) on the side remote from the site of the weld, and the top part of said recesses is partially filled with stable reinforced insulating material; and the cross-section of the electrode (32) is reduced in a zone (41) in which the electrode (32) presses, during transverse welding, on the double film layer formed by overlapping of the film edges (14,15).
12. Apparatus according to claim 11, characterised in that swing-away liquid-cooled work holders (37) are disposed in parallel relationship to the welding electrode (32).
