Claims (5)

1. A side folding packer for soft cigarette packets with a packing station which is provided with a feed device (13) for feeding lining paper sections (14) transversely to the direction of advance (19) of blocks (10) of cigarettes to be packed, and with folding devices for folding the lining paper sections (14), the folding devices comprising lateral folding fingers (29), a mouth member (12) recip- rocable in the direction of advance to receive a block (10) fo cigarettes, and a folding element (25), which is movable from a position above the mouth member (12) into a folding position spanning the latter, characterised in that
a continuously driven conveyor is provided for conveying the blocks (10) of cigarettes to be packed through the packing station,
the folding element (25) is U-shaped, is, when in the starting position, disposed in front of the starting position of the mouth member (12) in the direction of advance (19), is movable obliquely relative to the direction of advance (19), and can be held in the folding position spanning the mouth member until the inner side wall portions (27) of the lining section (14) have run through and been folded over,
when the folding element (25) is in the folding position, the block (10) of cigarettes can be conveyed with the lining section (14) through the folding element (25) by means of the conveyor,
the folding fingers (29) are arranged to be stationary and before - in the direction of advance (19) - the folding position of the folding element (25) spanning the mouth member, and
the speed of the U-shaped folding element (25) in the direction of advance (19) and of the mouth member (12) can be synchronized with the conveyor speed.
2. A side folding packer as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that between the starting positions of the U-shaped folding element (25) and mouth member (12) there is a guide (17, 18) for the lining sections (14), which guide can be pivoted up to release the lining section (14).
3. A side folding packer as claimed in claim 2, characterised in that the guide (17, 18) comprises a stationary plate (17) and two laterally pivotable L-shaped guide elements (18).
4. A side folding packer as claimed in any of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that a device (23, 24) is provided to push down the corresponding flap of the lining section (14) on to the upper side of the mouth member (12) while the latter is moving in the direction of advance (19).
5. A side folding packer as claimed in claim 4, characterised in that the device (23, 24) comprises rods (23) situated on both sides of the mouth member (12) and pivotable contrary to the direction of advance (19) about an axis perpendicular to the direction of advance (19).
