Claims (20)

1. Novolak, der er modificeret flammehæmmende med 9, 10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthren (DOP) og/eller et derivat deraf og opfylder nedenforstående formel (I):
(i) hvor Ri er udvalgt fra
i) hydrogen, ii) en DOP-rest fra formlen iii) en DOPO-rest fra formlen og iv) en DOPS-rest fra formlen
; og n h 2; hvor et stort antal af resterne Ri er DOP-, DOPO-og/eller DOPS-rester.
2. Novolak ifølge krav 1, kendetegnet ved, at alle rester Ri i det væsentlige er DOP-, DOPO- og/eller DOPS-rester.
3. Novolak ifølge krav 1 eller 2, kendetegnet ved, at alle rester Ri, der ikke er hydrogen, i det væsentlige er DOP-, DOPO- og/eller DOPS-rester.
4. Novolak ifølge krav 3, kendetegnet ved, at alle rester Ri i det væsentlige er DOPO- og/eller DOPS-rester .
5. Novolak ifølge et af de foregående krav, kendetegnet ved, at n = 4 til 100, fortrinsvis 5 til 50, endnu mere foretrukket 6 til 30.
6. Novolak ifølge et af de foregående krav, kendetegnet ved, at en eller flere af de aromatiske ringe fra DOP-, DOPO- og/eller DOPS-resterne og/eller det dermed modificerede novolak er substitueret med en eller flere substituenter, der er udvalgt fra gruppen, der består af halogener, Ci-4-alkyl, Ci-4-alkoxy, C1-4- alkylcarbonyl, Ci-6_aryl, Ci-4alkyl-Ci-6-aryl, Ci_ 6aryl-Ci-4-alkyl, formyl, amino, ammonio, C1-4- alkylamino, Di-Ci-4- alkylamino, carboxyl, carbamoyl, sulfo og phosphono.
7. Fremgangsmåde til fremstilling af flammehæmmende modificerede novolakker ifølge et af kravene 1 til 6 ved omsætning af en udgangsnovolak med 10-chlor-9, 10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthren (DOP-Cl), ved hvilken der anvendes et molforhold mellem D0P-C1 og molekylerne fra udgangsnovolakken på i det mindste 2:1 for at opnå en DOP-modif iceret novolak med i det mindste to DOP-rester pr. molekyle.
8. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 7, kendetegnet ved, at udgangsnovolakken omsættes med en molær mængde af D0P-C1, der i det væsentlige svarer til mængden af OH-grupper i udgangsnovolakken.
9. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 8, kendetegnet ved, at den molære mængde D0P-C1 ikke ligger mere end 2 mol-% under mængden af OH-grupper i udgangsnovolakken.
10. Fremgangsmåde ifølge et af kravene 7 til 9, kendetegnet ved, at der anvendes en syrefanger til de frigjorte HC1.
11. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 10, kendetegnet ved, at der som syrefanger anvendes 1-methylimidazol.
12. Fremgangsmåde ifølge et af kravene 7 til 11, kendetegnet ved, at der som opløsningsmiddel anvendes vandfrit toluen.
13. Fremgangsmåde ifølge et af kravene 7 til 12, kendetegnet ved, at den på denne måde opnåede DOP-modificerede novolak omsættes med et oxidationsmiddel for at oxidere DOP-resterne til DOPO- eller DOPS-rester.
14. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 13, kendetegnet ved, at der som oxidationsmiddel anvendes en peroxid for at oxidere DOP-resterne til DOPO-rester.
15. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 14, kendetegnet ved, at der som oxidationsmiddel anvendes t-butylhydroperoxid.
16. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 13, kendetegnet ved, at der som oxidationsmiddel anvendes elementær svovl for at oxidere DOP-resterne til DOPS-rester.
17. Anvendelse af en novolak ifølge et af kravene 1 til 6 som flammehæmmende middel.
18. Anvendelse ifølge krav 17, kendetegnet ved, at novolakken anvendes som flammehæmmende middel til plastmaterialer.
19. Anvendelse ifølge krav 18, kendetegnet ved, at novolakken anvendes som flammehæmmende middel til epoxyharpikser.
20. Anvendelse ifølge et af kravene 17 til 19, kendetegnet ved, at novolakken anvendes sammen med en eller flere synergister og/eller yderligere flammehæmmende midler.
