Field of the Invention This invention relates to an apparatus for cleaning a flat surface with heavy water jets, in particular for removing rubber from runways, and comprising at least one nozzle connected to a pipe for a source of pressurized water; a water tank, an associated pump unit for applying high pressure to the water, a housing with a suction hose arranged around the nozzles, filter means for removing solid material from the water collected from the housing, and a return pipe for the tank.

En sådan enhed er kendt fra DE-2.617.635.Such a device is known from DE-2,617,635.

It is known that brake tracks on runways at 15 airports can constitute an impermeable layer that prevents water from running off the runway when it has rained heavily. Therefore, there is a risk of airplanes being exposed to aquaplaning at takeoffs and landings.

Various methods for removing rubber layers are known.

Samtidig er denne fremgangsmåde 25 meget tidsforbrugende og start- og landingsbanen må af-spærres i to dage.20 The use of chemicals to dissolve the rubber and water jets to flush the runways clean has the disadvantage that the airplane tire that is in contact with the runways risks being attacked while contaminating the surroundings. At the same time, this approach is very time-consuming and the runway must be closed for two days.

Another known method for removing rubber deposits uses powerful water jets which are directed at nozzles to the runway at a distance of about 60 cm. The pressure used is e.g. around 400 bar and water consumption is between 70 and 100 liters per liter. minute. The water contaminated with rubber particles disappears into the environment, which is why this method is also harmful to the environment. Other drawbacks include the fact that water consumption is high and that the control is so inadequate that there is a great risk of the asphalt surface being destroyed.

The device disclosed in DE-2,617,635 seeks to prevent such contamination by removing solids from the water, but the filtration is not sufficiently efficient, which is why there is a risk of clogging of the filter and a risk of the particles being fed to water tank.

The object of the invention is to avoid these risks, which is why the apparatus has a cyclone for extracting air from the collected water, a filter for collecting large particles, which is connected to the cyclone and at least one bag filter for particles larger than 3 mm. and an activated carbon filter for small particulate collection.

Advantageously, water can be used at a very high pressure, which means a pressure in the range of 1800 to 2400 bar. The web is sprayed with less than 25 liters of water per minute. The recirculation means that the rubber is fed into the filters and a significant portion of the sprayed water is returned to the water tank. Water consumption is therefore only about 20% of what it would be without recycling. As most of the water is removed from the runways, these are always ready for an emergency landing. The water tank can be made relatively small and can therefore be placed on the vehicle with the nozzles.

The required vacuum for collecting the contaminated water from nozzle housings to the cyclone and for separating and removing the air inside the cyclone can be generated by a vacuum pump. It is simpler to have a chamber mounted and connected to the cyclone having one or more venturi pieces connected to an air compressor.

Advantageously, a diaphragm pump may be placed respectively in the liquid line between the cyclone and the bag filter and in the liquid line between the bag filter and the activated charcoal filter.

The activated charcoal filter must be cleaned periodically, which can be done by back-flowing the water. For this purpose, a liquid connection is provided between both the tank and the liquid outlet of the activated carbon filter and between the liquid inlet of this filter and the bag filter. The system additionally has switching valves for transferring water from the tank to the side of the active carbon filter, which normally acts as the exit side, for periodic flushing of this filter and for diverting the flushing water from the normal input side of the filter to the bag filters.

To achieve the very high water pressure (about 2200 bar) required for the process, the high pressure pump is designed as an amplifier with a hydraulically driven piston system which converts a relatively low pressure and a high capacity to a very high pressure and a low capacity.

An effective suction from the nozzle housing is achieved by opening the suction hose tangentially into the housing with the nozzles.

2020

A number of nozzles are usually arranged on a rotatable vertical shaft.

The high pressure pump (amplifier) must be protected against solid 25 particles from the tank. Therefore, a double filter is placed in the connection between the water tank and the high-pressure pump.

The bag filters must be replaced periodically and in order for this to be possible without interrupting the operation of the apparatus, this is provided with at least two bag filters arranged in parallel and with valves in their respective supply pipes.

The purpose of this vacuum is the transfer of dirty water through the conduit 8 to the cyclone 9 and in connection with the operation of the cyclone to separate dirty water.

A diaphragm pump 16 is connected via a conduit 17 to the output side via and via a conduit 18 10 to the input side of the filter 15.

A ball valve 19 and 20 are provided in each of the conduits 17 and 18. The diaphragm pump 16 is connected to bag filters 22 and 23 through a conduit 21 and two branches 15 21a and 21b. A valve 24a and 24b is provided in each of the branches.

The dirty water from the cyclone is pumped with the pump 16 to one of the bag filters 22 or 23 that collect particles 20 larger than 3 nin.

Udgangssiden på filteret 25 28 er via en ledning 29 forbundet med en vandtank 30.A conduit 25 connects the outlet side of the bag filters to a diaphragm pump 26 connected through a conduit 27 to an activated carbon filter 28. The outlet side of the filter 25 28 is connected to a water tank 30 via a conduit 29.

Filter 28 removes the fine particles from the water from which the coarser material has already been removed, after which the purified water flows back into the tank 30. By means of the recirculation system, in which a considerable 5 of the water sprayed onto the webs is returned to the tank 30, daily water consumption can be limited to between 3 and 5 m. With known flushing systems, the corresponding consumption is between 20 and 25 m. A considerable part of the loosened rubber is collected in filters 15, 22, 23 and 28 10 so that the surroundings are not appreciably affected.

It is extremely important that the cleaning of the web can be controlled through the extremely high pressure and the height adjustment of the housing 5 so that the asphalt surface is not affected to any appreciable extent. A water volume of 24.5 liters per spray is applied. minute on the tarmac. As the sprayed water is removed, the runway is always ready for an emergency landing.

The recirculation ensures that the water tank 30 can be made relatively small and thus placed on a vehicle.

The activated charcoal filter 28 must be cleaned at regular intervals. For this purpose, between the tank 30 and a branch point of the conduit 25 and a conduit 35 is arranged in a valve 36. The flushing system also needs a valve 37 in the conduit 25, a valve 38 in the conduit 27, a conduit 39, connecting conduits 27 and 29 to valve 40, and conduit 41 connecting conduits 27 and 21 to valve 42, valve 43 in conduit 29, and 30 to valve 42 in conduit 27. By closing valves 37, 38 and 43 and open valves 36, 40 and 42, the filter 28 can be cleaned by flushing in the opposite direction and the water is transferred to the two bag filters 22 and 23. In normal operation, one of the bag filters is always used. By using 35 of the valves 24a and 24b, it is possible to change from one bag filter to another and the used filter can be replaced without interruption of the work.
