Description
For the disinfection of liquids, especially water, devices are used in which the raw water is passed through fine-pored filter media. Porous plates, candles or membranes serve as filter media, on the other hand so-called loose filters made of asbestos and cellulose fibers etc. If the filter media are fine-pored enough to hold back organisms, the disadvantage is that the coarse impurities in the water, especially slimy suspended matter that quickly clog fine pores. This exhaustion occurs very quickly with rigid filters (candles, membranes, etc.), while with loose filters (asbestos layers, etc.) germs may grow through, which calls into question the sterile filtration. For this reason, arrangements have already been made in which the liquid to be disinfected first passes a coarse filter, which relieves the subsequent disinfection filter means. In order to avoid the growth of germs through loose filters, oligodynamically effective fillings or impregnations have been applied to the base of the sterile filter. In the case of devices that have to be used in the field, such additional arrangements necessitate an increase in space requirements and weight, and handling is often more difficult.
The filter device according to the present application avoids these disadvantages in that the raw water is first passed through a packing consisting of loose filters, which is activated in a manner known per se (e.g. oligodynamically) and has a germicidal effect, and also gives the liquid itself germicidal properties. The liquid then penetrates through the sterilizing filter medium, which is kept free of germs due to the germicidal properties of the activated water. The germs cannot grow through and the continuous output of the fine-pored layer is considerably higher due to the primary settling in the loose filters.

Raw water is poured into the shell 1, which also serves as the base for the housing that accommodates the entire device during transport. The small piston pump 2 pumps the water into the filter device. This consists of two lids 4 and 5 connected with hinged screws 3 and an intermediate frame 6. In the intermediate frame 6, a ready-assembled pack 7 is inserted, which contains a germicidal activated fiber material that also serves as a prefilter. The pack can be bordered on the side by an upright cardboard ring, at the top and bottom by a filter cardboard and stuffed with the fibrous filter medium. It is also possible to design the packing in such a way that the activated fiber material is pressed wet into a corresponding shape, similar to the mass cakes customary in breweries. Since the activated material is also limited in its effectiveness by mucilage, a prefilter layer 8 is inserted between the lower cover 4 and the intermediate frame 6, which can be easily replaced after opening the hinged screws. The sterilizing filter layer 9 (for example membrane filter) is inserted between the frame 6 and the upper cover 5, which are connected by studs - not shown in the drawing. It is seldom necessary to change the disinfecting layer. A sieve fabric, a porous plastic plate or the like can be used in the top cover as a base for the disinfecting layer (10). The sterilized water exits at the spout 11 of the upper lid and can be collected in a drinking vessel. To ensure good ventilation of the device, the filter layers are arranged horizontally, the water flows through from bottom to top. This ensures that the liquid to be sterilized comes into contact with the activated filling as uniformly as possible, so the contact time is approximately the same for all liquid particles.
In addition to disinfecting water and the like, the device described can also be used for other treatment with adsorbing or ion-exchanging filter media.
