Description

The invention relates to a device for removing fibrous waste materials, in particular hair, from water drains with odor traps in wash basins, showers and bathtubs, etc.

In wash basins, kitchen sinks, showers and bathtubs etc., the drain line attached to the water drain opening usually consists of a so-called odor trap or siphon, which has two vertical siphon leg pipes that are connected to each other in a U-shape by a 180° bend. The siphon-like odor trap is important because it is filled with fresh water every time the water is drained or flushed, so that the standing water in the odor trap cannot smell.

However, this destroys the permanently plastic cement connection between the round cover plate and the basin or tub body, so that without a new permanently plastic connection the water drain becomes leaky, which can cause significant consequential damage, particularly in the case of leaky shower or bathtub drains. In order to clean the odor trap, it would also be possible to remove the U-shaped pipe deflector of the siphon by unscrewing it downwards. This method would be time-consuming, there would still be the problem of getting the hair out of the U-shaped pipe bend, and the tightness of the odor trap after reinstalling the U-shaped pipe deflector is called into question.

So that the device according to the invention can be inserted into the odor trap of the washbasin, shower or bathtub, etc., the diameter of the pin with its radial projections is smaller than the diameter of the water drain opening(s) leading to the odor trap. To operate the device according to the invention, the pin (10) is taken in the hand by its handle part (11) and its part (12) is inserted from above one after the other through the water drainage holes (15) down into the odor trap down to the pipe deflection (18). The hair deposited there is caught by the radial projections (13) such as thorns, bristles, etc. and when the pin (10) is turned, the hair is wound around the pin shaft into one or more hair balls. The pin (10) is then pulled out of the respective water drainage hole (15) and the odor trap is freed of hair in a short time.

The diameter of the pin (10) with its radial projections (13) is smaller than the diameter of the water drain holes (15). However, if the water drain can be closed with an eccentric valve body, the diameter of the pin (10) including projections (13) can be correspondingly larger.

The pin (10) can be made of plastic and the radial mandrels (13) can be molded onto the pin shaft, for example using an injection molding process. The radial projections (13) can also be fiber bristles, wire bristles, etc., which are attached to or in the pin shaft made of plastic, metal, wood, pressed cardboard or the like. In Fig. 1 it can also be seen that the radial mandrels, bristles (13) etc. are advantageously distributed around the circumference of the pin shaft in such a way that, viewed in the circumferential direction of the pin, the neighboring projections/bristles (13) are offset from one another or are spaced apart in order to be able to capture as many hairs as possible that have accumulated in the odor trap when the pin (10) is turned, wind them up and remove them with the pin.
