In the field of packaging, the invention relates to a bottom closure for folding boxes with four equal flaps attached to the lower edge of the side surfaces and with abutting bottom flaps which are provided with glass-shaped cutouts on their side edges which hook together _when the folding box is erected and form a firm, resilient bottom closure.

It is intended for boxes made of cardboard, poppet, corrugated cardboard, etc. with rectangular and square bases. A transfer to differently shaped base surfaces is possible. The base closure creates a windproof folding box and can be used for loan packaging and multiple use.

Such folding boxes are suitable for rationalizing the packaging process.

Characteristics of known technical solutions

In addition to the usual use of adhesive tape, glue, staples, etc., there are also constructive solutions for closing folding box bottoms that do not require additional packaging materials and can be divided into the following main groups:

- Special shape of the bottom flaps, which after bending inwards prevent the bottom from opening outwards by overlapping in certain areas of the bottom flaps, whereby the flaps can be designed individually or separated from one another by grooving, as described in DE-OS 2804227, DE-OS 2852996 and in WP 2877034.

- Cutting and gluing two adjacent bottom flaps over a flap; when erecting, the two bottom flaps are forced into the flat shape and hook into each other in the middle while simultaneously stabilizing the folding box shape, as set out in DE-PS 2801728 and DE-AS 1921489.

The disadvantage of these aforementioned solutions is that more material is required than with centrally colliding bottom flaps.

Aim of the invention

The aim of the invention is to save material in these bottom closures without additional closure materials compared to previously known solutions.

The objective includes the requirement to rationalize the packaging process.

Explanation of the nature of the invention

The invention is based on the task of finding a cut for the four bottom flaps of a folding box that allows the neighboring bottom flaps to interlock when folded, which can be achieved in a time-saving manner using mechanical aids or manually. The task also includes the condition that the width of the bottom flaps is only half the short side length of the bottom surface.

According to the invention, the object is achieved in that the blank of the folding box in the base area has congruent, asymmetrically shaped cutouts for square, rectangular and other base cross-sections, on the outline edges of which cuts and notches are arranged, by means of which the base flaps which are adjacent to one another when the folding box is folded are hooked into one another.

When the bottom flaps are tilted inwards, the adjacent bottom flaps are forced into a rain-side hooking of the incisions due to the reset effect of the material, the arrangement of which was determined against the direction of force application when the bottom was pushed through to the outside.

Therefore, the incisions with the subsequent crimpings form an essential feature of the invention.

When cut, the cuts form an angle of 90° relative to the corner of the folding box for square, rectangular bottom surfaces; for example, for hexagonal packaging, the angle is 60°.

The width of the cuts is tailored to the thickness of the material of the folding box. It is slightly larger than the thickness of the material and, while providing sufficient holding power, takes into account the flat position of the bottom flaps on top of each other when closed.

The distance between the bottom edges of the cuts and the corner of the folding box, which is formed at the intersection of the folding edge and ^the folding line, is the same and thus ensures the mutual locking of the bottom flaps and the stabilization of the folding box shape.

The distance between the bottom edge and the apex, to which the curvature is connected, serves as a counter-support and ensures the strength of the connection. The apex points are at different distances from the corner of the folding box due to the arrangement of the curvature.

The curves are radii whose centers lie next to each other on the fold line outside the corner of the folding box; this causes the bottom flaps to engage with each other during the resetting process after the bottom flaps have been tilted inwards, after which the bottom flaps are forced to slide in opposite directions until they snap into place in the notches when the bottom is pressed shut.

The design of the cuts allows the bottom flaps to be folded inwards without a prescribed order. Simultaneous folding of the opposite bottom flaps has proven to be useful for rationalising the packaging process.

The known devices can be used to bend the bottom flaps from the starting position to 90 degrees towards the bottom. Two parallel supports, adjustable horizontally and horizontally, which are coordinated with the distance between the interacting incisions, are suitable as technical aids for bending the bottom flaps inwards.

Complete closure of the bottom is achieved by counter pressure on the lifting flaps from the inside or by filling the folding box with the product.

Figure 1 shows the cut of the rectangular folding box i with the side surfaces 2j 3 and the adhesive flap 4 in the middle of the side edge 2, with the bottom flaps 5; being arranged in extension of the side surfaces 2j 3 above a fold line. The cutout 8 begins at the end of the fold edge and has two incisions 10; 11 on the adjacent bottom flaps 5; 6, which form an angle of 90 degrees to one another in the cut.

The bottom edges 12? 13 of the incisions 10; 11 are located at the same distance from the end of the fold edge 9, while the vertices 14; 15 are at different distances from it.
