In der Patentschrift Nr. 79208 wurde gezeigt, dafs man durch Einwirkung von Traubenzucker in alkalischer Lösung auf αχ α4-Dinitronaphtalin einen unlöslichen violetten metallglä'nzenden Körper erhält, der infolge seiner Unlöslichkeit in fast allen Lösungsmitteln als solcher keine gewerbliche Verwerthung gestattet; er mufs vielmehr direct auf der Faser erzeugt werden und giebt so auf Baumwolle violettschwarze bis schwarze Färbungen. Die Reaction verläuft ganz anders, wenn sie in -Gegenwart von Sulfiten oder Bisulfiten der Alkalien oder alkalischen Erden vorgenommen wird. Nun wird der Farbstoff mit Kochsalz oder Chlorkalium ausgesalzen, filtrirt, geprefst und getrocknet.
