Description
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft Schleifprodukte.
- Schleifmittel-Compacts sind in der Technik wohlbekannt und werden für eine Vielfalt von Operationen des Abtragens wie das Schneiden, Bohren, Schleifen und dergleichen verwendet. Schleifmittel-Compacts bestehen aus einer polykristallinen Masse gebundener Schleifmittel-Teilchen, wobei der Schleifmittel-Gehalt im allgemeinen wenigstens 70 Vol.-%, und insbesondere 80 bis 90 Vol.-%, beträgt. Die Schleifmittel-Teilchen können selbstgebunden sein, ohne die Hilfe oder Verwendung einer zweiten oder bindenden Phase. Alternativ kann eine zweite oder bindende Phase bereitgestellt sein. Die Schleifmittel-Teilchen für Compacts bestehen gleichbleibend aus Diamant oder kubischem Bornitrid.
- Schleifmittel-Compacts können an Sintercarbid-Träger gebunden sein. Solche gebundenen Compacts werden oft als Verbund- Compacts bezeichnet. Die Bindung zwischen dem Compact und dem Carbid-Träger kann direkt erfolgen, oder eine bindende Schicht aus einem geeigneten Hartlot kann zwischen dem Compact und dem Carbid-Träger angebracht werden.
- Schleifmittel-Compacts und Verbund-Compacts werden in einer Anzahl von veröffentlichten Patentschriften beschrieben und erläutert, beispielsweise in den Us-Patentschriften 3 743 489, 3 767 371, 4 063 909 und 3 745 623.
- Diamant-Schleifmittel-Compacts, die eine zweite Phase eines Diamant-Katalysator/Lösungsmittels enthalten, neigen zum Abbau bei Temperaturen oberhalb von 700 ºC. Diamant-Schleifmittel- Compacts, die bei diesen hohen Temperaturen thermisch stabil sind, sind bekannt und, beispielsweise, in den US-Patenten 4 534 773 und 4 224 380 und in dem Britischen Patent 2 158 086 beschrieben.
- Die US-Patentschrift 4 673 414 beschreibt ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines erneut gesinterten CBN-Compacts, das das Bereitstellen eines Stapels bor-reicher polykristalliner CBN- Teilchen und das Sintern dieser Teilchen bei einem Druck und einer Temperatur umfaßt, die adäquat sind, um die Teilchen erneut zu sintern, wobei die Temperatur unterhalb der Temperatur der Rückumwandlung des CBN gehalten wird. Es heißt, daß das Verfahren ohne die Hilfe eines Katalysators zu einer Bildung überlegener Compacts aus polykristallinem CBN bei Druck- und Temperatur-Bedingungen führt, die typischerweise bei Verfahren zur Anwendung kommen, die einen Katalysator benutzen. Das Verfahren ist auf die Verwendung bor-reicher polykristalliner Teilchen aus kubischem Bornitrid beschränkt.
- Gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Schleifprodukts verfügbar gemacht, das die Schritte des Bereitstellens eines Diamant-Schleifmittel- Compacts, des Fragmentierens des Compacts in eine Mehrzahl von Fragmenten, des Einbringens der Fragmente in eine geeignete Reaktionskapsel, des Einbringens der Kapsel in die Reaktionszone einer Hochtemperatur/Hochdruck-Apparatur und des Einwirkenlassens von Bedingungen erhöhter Temperatur und erhöhten Drucks auf den Inhalt der Kapsel für die Dauer einer Zeitspanne, die ausreicht, um aus den Fragmenten ein zusammenhängendes Produkt zu bilden, umfaßt.
- Die Erfindung liefert ein Schleifprodukt, das im Effekt ein Diamant-Schleifmittel-Compact mit einer rauhen äußeren Oberfläche ist. Die rauhe äußere Oberfläche ermöglicht, daß der Schleifmittel-Compact mit der Arbeitsfläche eines Schleifwerkzeugs besser verzahnt wird, in das er eingebaut wird.
- Das Verfahren umfaßt zuerst das Fragmentieren eines Diamant- Schleifmittel-Compacts in eine Mehrzahl von Fragmenten. Vorzugsweise sind die Fragmente klein, d.h. sie haben eine Größe von nicht mehr als 1,5 mm.
- Die Fragmentierung erfolgt typischerweise durch Brechen des Diamant-Schleifmittel-Compacts. Dies liefert Fragmente oder Stücke mit einer rauhen unregelmäßigen äußeren Oberfläche.
- Die Fragmente als solche können genommen und in eine zum Einbringen in die Reaktionszone einer Hochtemperatur/Hochdruck-Apparatur geeignete Reaktionskapsel eingefüllt werden. Alternativ kann ein geeignetes Metall oder eine geeignete zweite Phase einbezogen werden, und wenn eine solche einbezogen wird, läßt man sie vorzugsweise während des Sinterns und Verdichtens in die Fragmente einsickern.
- Der Inhalt der Reaktionskapsel wird typischerweise einem Druck von wenigstens 25 kbar und einer Temperatur von 1100 ºC oder höher ausgesetzt. Diese Bedingungen werden typischerweise während einer Zeitspanne von wenigstens 10 min aufrechterhalten. Unter diesen Bedingungen sintern die Fragmente zusammen und bilden ein zusammenhängendes hartes Produkt, das aus der Reaktionskapsel durch Verfahrensweisen gewonnen werden kann, die in der Technik bekannt sind. Die Bedingungen erhöhter Temperatur und erhöhten Drucks liegen vorzugsweise in dem Bereich des Kohlenstoff-Phasendiagramms, in dem Diamant stabil ist.
- Der zu fragmentierende Diamant-Schleifmittel-Compact wird aus Diamant-Teilchen hergestellt, die keinerlei Bor enthalten oder in denen, sofern sie doch etwas Bor enthalten, dieses nur in Spuren-Mengen anwesend ist.
- Der zu fragmentierende Diamant-Schleifmittel-Compact ist vorzugsweise ein thermisch stabiler Diamant-Schleifmittel- Compact, d.h. einer, der nicht in nennenswertem Maße abgebaut wird, wenn er einer Temperatur der Größenordnung von 1200 ºC im Vakuum, in einer inerten oder in einer nicht-oxidierenden Atmosphäre ausgesetzt wird. Beispiele für Compacts dieses Typs sind solche, die in dem US-Patent 4 534 773 und dem Britischen Patent 2 158 086 beschrieben sind. Diese beiden Compacts besitzen eine zweite Phase, die einen hohen Anteil an Silicium in Form von Silicium, Siliciumcarbid und/oder einem Metallsilicid enthält oder daraus besteht.
- Die mittels des Verfahrens der Erfindung hergestellten Schleifprodukte können in einer Mannigfaltigkeit von Schleifwerkzeugen eingesetzt werden, darunter Bohrkronen, Schneidwerkzeugen, Schleifscheiben, Drahtziehsteinen und dergleichen.
- Ein Beispiel der Erfindung wird nunmehr beschrieben. Ein Diamant-Schleifmittel-Compact wurde mit Hilfe des in dem Britischen Patent 2 158 086 beschriebenen Verfahrens hergestellt. Der so hergestellte Diamant-Schleifmittel-Compact bestand aus einer Masse von Diamant-Teilchen, die in einer Menge von 80 bis 90 Vol.-% des Compacts vorlag, und einer in einer Menge von 10 bis 20 Vol.-% des Compacts vorliegenden zweiten Phase, wobei die Masse aus Diamant-Teilchen im wesentlichen Diamant-zu-Diamant-Bindungen enthielt, so daß sie eine zusammenhängende Gerüst-Masse bildete, und die zweite Phase im wesentlichen aus Silicium bestand, wobei das Silicium in Form von Silicium und/oder Siliciumcarbid vorlag.
- Der Diamant-Schleifmittel-Compact wurde dann gebrochen, wodurch eine Masse von Teilchen oder Fragmenten mit einer mittleren Größe von weniger als 1,5 mm gebildet wurde. Diese Masse der Teilchen wurde dann in die Reaktionskapsel einer konventionellen Hochtemperatur/Hochdruck-Apparatur gefüllt. Die Kapsel wurde in die Reaktionszone dieser Apparatur eingebracht, und der Inhalt der Kapsel wurde einer Temperatur von 1500 ºC und einem Druck von 50 kbar ausgesetzt. Diese Bedingungen erhöhter Temperatur und erhöhten Drucks wurden über einen Zeitraum von 20 min aufrechterhalten.
- Die Reaktionskapsel wurde der Apparatur entnommen, und das Produkt wurde mittels bekannter Techniken aus der Kapsel isoliert. Das Produkt war zusammenhängend und hart und hatte Schleifmittel-Eigenschaften, die wenigstens ebenso gut waren, wie die eines konventionellen Diamant-Compacts, und es sah wie ein konventioneller Diamant-Compact aus. Es hatte auch eine rauhe äußere Oberfläche, die eine gute Oberfläche für die Verzahnung mit der Arbeitsfläche eines Schleifwerkzeugs abgab.
Claims (6)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Schleifprodukts, umfassend
die Schritte
des Bereitstellens eines Diamant-Schleifmittel-Compacts,
des Fragmentierens des Compacts in eine Mehrzahl von
Fragmenten,
des Einbringens der Fragmente in eine geeignete
Reaktionskapsel,
des Einbringens der Kapsel in die Reaktionszone einer
Hochtemperatur/Hochdruck-Apparatur und
des Einwirkenlassens von Bedingungen erhöhter Temperatur und
erhöhten Drucks auf die Kapsel für die Dauer einer
Zeitspanne, die ausreicht, um aus den Fragmenten ein
zusammenhängendes Produkt zu bilden.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, worin die Fragmente eine Größe
von nicht mehr als 1,5 mm haben.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 oder Anspruch 2, worin die
Fragmentierung des Compacts durch Brechen erfolgt.
4. Verfahren nach irgendeinem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche,
worin der Diamant-Schleifmittel-Compact einer ist, der nicht
in nennenswertem Maße abgebaut wird, wenn er einer
Temperatur der Größenordnung von 1200 ºC im Vakuum, in einer
inerten oder einer nicht-oxidierenden Atmosphäre ausgesetzt
wird.
5. Verfahren nach Anspruch 4, worin der Diamant-Schleifmittel-
Compact eine zweite Phase besitzt, die aus Silicium in Form
von Silicium, Siliciumcarbid und/oder einem Metallsilicid
besteht.
6. Verfahren nach irgendeinem der vorhergehenden Ansprüche,
worin der Inhalt der Reaktionskapsel einem Druck von
wenigstens 25 kbar und einer Temperatur von wenigstens 1100 ºC
ausgesetzt wird.
