Description
Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft die Verwendung eines
Schleifenkörpers zur Herstellung eines Schleifwerk
zeugs.
Schleif-Preßkörper (Kompakts) sind in der Technik wohl
bekannt und werden in der Industrie zum Abschleifen
verschiedenartiger Werkstücke verwendet. Sie bestehen
im wesentlichen aus einer Masse von Schleifmittel-Teil
chen, die in einer Menge von wenigstens 70 Vol.-%, vor
zugsweise von 80 bis 90 Vol.-%, des Preßlings in ein
hartes Konglomerat eingebunden vorliegen. Kompakts sind
polykristalline Massen und vermögen große Einkristalle
bei vielen Anwendungen zu ersetzen. Die Schleifmittel-
Teilchen der Kompakts sind gleichbleibend ultraharte
Schleifmittel wie Diamant und kubisches Bornitrid.
Schleif-Preßkörper enthalten im allgemeinen eine zweite
Phase oder Bindematrix, die einen bei der Synthese der
Teilchen nützlichen Katalysator (auch bekannt als Lö
sungsmittel) enthält. Im Falle des kubischen Bornitrids
sind Beispiele für geeignete Katalysatoren Aluminium
oder eine Legierung des Aluminiums mit Nickel, Cobalt,
Eisen, Mangan oder Chrom. Im Falle des Diamants sind
Beispiele für geeignete Katalysatoren Metalle der Grup
pe VIII des Periodensystems wie Cobalt, Nickel oder
Eisen oder eine ein solches Metall enthaltende Legie
rung.
Wie in der Fachwelt bekannt ist, werden Kompakts aus
Diamant und kubischem Bornitrid unter Bedingungen der
Temperatur und des Druckes hergestellt, bei denen die
Schleifmittel-Teilchen kristallographisch stabil sind.
Schleif-Preßkörper können für den Einsatz direkt mit
einem Werkzeug oder Schaft verbunden sein. Alternativ
können sie mit einer Unterlage wie einer solchen aus
Sintercarbid verbunden werden, bevor sie auf ein Werk
zeug oder einen Schaft montiert werden. Solche unter
legten Kompakts sind in der Technik als Verbund-
Schleifkompakts bekannt.
Die US-PS 42 24 380 beschreibt ein Verfahren zum Her
auslösen einer erheblichen Menge des Katalysators aus
einem Diamant-Kompakt. Das auf diese Weise erzeugte
Produkt umfaßt selbstgebundene Diamant-Teilchen, die
zwischen etwa 70 Vol.-% und 95 Vol.-% des Produkts
bilden, eine im wesentlichen gleichmäßig in das gesamte
Produkt eingesickerte metallische Phase, die zwischen
etwa 0,05 Vol.-% und 3 Vol.-% des Produkts bildet, und
ein Netzwerk aus miteinander verbundenen leeren Poren,
die durch das gesamte Produkt hindurch verteilt sind
und durch die Teilchen und die metallische Phase be
grenzt werden und zwischen etwa 5 Vol.-% und 30 Vol.-%
des Produkts ausmachen. Das Herauslösen kann dadurch
bewirkt werden, daß man einen Diamant-Kompakt eine ge
wisse Zeit in eine heiße konzentrierte Lösung von Sal
peter- und Fluorwasserstoffsäure bringt. Diese Behand
lung mit heißer Säure löst die Katalysatorphase heraus
und hinterläßt eine Diamant-Skelett-Struktur. Es wird
angegeben, daß das nach dem Herauslösen gewonnene Pro
dukt thermisch stabiler ist als das unbehandelte Produkt.
Die US-PS 41 24 401 beschreibt und beansprucht einen
polykristallinen Diamant-Körper aus einer Masse aus
Diamant-Kristallen, die vermittels eines Silicium-Atome
enthaltenden bindenden Mediums haftend miteinander ver
bunden sind, das Siliciumcarbid und ein Carbid und/oder
Silicid einer Metall-Komponente, die mit Silicium ein
Silicid bildet, umfaßt, wobei die Diamant-Kristalle
eine Größe im Bereich von 1 µm bis etwa 1000 µm auf
weisen, die Dichte der Kristalle von wenigstens etwa 70
Vol.-% bis zu wenigstens etwa 90 Vol.-% des Körpers
reicht, das Silicium-Atome enthaltende bindende Medium
in einer Menge im Bereich bis zu etwa 30 Vol.-% des
Körpers anwesend ist, dieses bindende Medium wenigstens
im wesentlichen gleichmäßig durch den Körper hindurch
verteilt ist, der mit den Oberflächen der Diamant-Kri
stalle in Berührung befindliche Teil wenigstens in der
Hauptmenge Siliciumcarbid ist und der Diamant-Körper
wenigstens im wesentliche porenfrei ist. Die Metall-
Komponente für den Diamant-Körper ist aus einer breiten
Gruppe von Metallen ausgewählt, die aus Cobalt, Chrom,
Eisen, Hafnium, Mangan, Molybdän, Niob, Nickel, Palla
dium, Platin, Rhenium, Rhodium, Ruthenium, Tantal,
Thorium, Titan, Uran, Vanadium, Wolfram, Yttrium, Zir
conium und deren Legierungen besteht. Der polykristal
line Diamant-Körper wird unter relativ milden Bedingun
gen des Heißpressens und solchermaßen, daß eine Dia
mant-Durchwachsung nicht stattfindet, hergestellt.
Die US-PS 41 51 686 beschreibt einen polykristallinen
Diamant-Körper ähnlich demjenigen der US-PS 41 24 401,
mit den Ausnahmen, daß das bindende Medium aus Silici
umcarbind und elementarem Silicium besteht und die
Dichte der Diamant-Kristalle in dem Körper von wenig
stens etwa 80 Vol.-% bis zu etwa 95 Vol.-% des Körpers
reicht. Darüber hinaus werden die polykristallinen
Schleifkörper dieses US-Patents unter Bedingungen höhe
ren angewandten Druckes gefertigt, d. h. angewandten
Drücken von wenigstens etwa 25 kbar. Es wird angegeben,
daß die Schleifkörper an Trennwerkzeugen, Düsen oder
anderen verschleißfesten Teilen wertvoll sind.
Die US-PS 32 39 321 beschreibt Diamant-Kompakts mit
einer zweiten Phase aus Titan, Vanadium, Zirconium,
Chrom oder Silicium oder einer Legierung irgendeines
dieser Metalle mit Nickel, Mangan oder Eisen. Diese
Kompakts werden in der Weise hergestellt, daß man die
Diamant-Teilchen mit dem Metall in Pulver-Form mischt
und dann die Mischungen Bedingungen erhöhter Temperatur
und erhöhten Drucks aussetzt. Ein Beispiel verwendet
Silicium als Metall in einer Menge von 31,5 Vo1.-%. Das
Patent legt nahe, daß der Kompakt in geeigneter Weise
zum Schneiden und Abschleifen harter Materialien ge
formt und montiert werden kann.
Die gesamte Beschreibung der ZA-PS 84/0053 beschreibt
einen Schleifkörper mit hoher Festigkeit und der Fähig
keit, hohe Temperaturen auszuhalten, die ihn als Werk
zeugeinsatz für Richtwerkzeuge an oberflächenbesetzte
Bohrkronen geeignet machen. Der Körper umfaßt eine
Masse aus Diamant-Teilchen, die in einer Menge von 80
bis 90 Vol.-% des Körpers vorhanden sind, und eine
zweite Phase, die in einer Menge von 10 bis 20 Vol.-%
des Körpers vorhanden ist, wobei die Masse aus Diamant-
Teilchen im wesentlichen Bindungen Diamant-zu-Diamant
enthält, wodurch eine zusammenhängende Skelett-Masse
gebildet wird, und die zweite Phase Nickel und Silicium
enthält, wobei das Nickel in Form von Nickel und/oder
Nickelsilicid vorliegt und das Silicium in Form von
Silicium, Siliciumcarbid und/oder Nickelsilicid vor
liegt. Die Schleifkörper werden unter Bedingungen er
höhter Temperatur und erhöhten Drucks hergestellt, die
für die Fertigung von Diamant-Kompakts geeignet sind.
Aus der DE 23 45 759 B2 ist bekannt, bei der Herstel
lung von Schleifwerkzeugen diese Temperaturen bis zu
900°C auszusetzen. Bei den hier genannten Schleifkörpern
werden jedoch keine Diamant-zu-Diamant-Bindungen
erhalten. Die thermische Stabilität wird durch den Auf
bau einer rein metallischen zweiten Phase bestimmt. Der
Spalte 2, Zeile 25 ff der DE-AS 23 45 759 B2 ist zu ent
nehmen, daß relativ große Reinkristalle, u. a. reine
Diamanten, zur Herstellung der Schleifwerkzeuge ein
gesetzt werden. Diese haben naturgemäß keine ausreichen
de thermische Stabilität.
Es ist daher Aufgabe der Erfindung, ein Schleifwerkzeug
zu schaffen, welches durch seine hohe Festigkeit eine
erhöhte Schleifleistung erbringt bei gleichzeitiger
hoher thermischer Stabilität.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist die Verwendung eines
Schleifeinsatzes gemäß Anspruch 1. Eine bevorzugte Aus
führungsform ist dem Anspruch 2 zu entnehmen.
Gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung wird diese Aufgabe
gelöst durch die in den Patentansprüchen angegebene
Verwendung bzw. das genannte Werkzeug.
Das Besondere dieses Schleifwerkzeugs besteht darin,
daß sein Arbeitsteil wenigstens einen Schleifkörper
mit den oben angegebenen charakteristischen Eigenschaf
ten enthält. Es wurde gefunden, daß diese Schleifkörper
nicht nur erhebliche Festigkeit besitzen, die wenig
stens zum Teil auf den wesentlichen Bindungen Diamant-
zu-Diamant beruht, sondern daß sie auch befähigt sind,
eine Temperatur von 1200°C unter einem Vakuum von 13 -
mPa (10-4 Torr) oder besser oder in inerter oder redu
zierender Atmosphäre auszuhalten vermögen, ohne daß
nennenswerte Graphitisierung des Diamants eintritt. Die
Festigkeit der Schleifkörper und ihre Fähigkeit, hohen Tempe
raturen standzuhalten, macht sie als Werkzeuge dort
ideal, wo während des Einsatzes hohe Temperaturen er
zeugt werden.
Die zweite, aus Silicium bestehende Phase in dem
Schleifkörper ist gleichmäßig durch die zusammenhän
gende Diamant-Skelett-Masse hindurch verteilt. Wie oben
angegeben ist, besteht die zweite Phase im wesentlichen
aus Silicium, das in Form von Silicium und/oder Sili
ciumcarbid vorliegt. Dies bedeutet, daß etwaige andere
Komponenten in der zweiten Phase nur in Spurenmengen
vorhanden sind.
Die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Schleifekörper können
mannigfaltige Formen annehmen, je nach dem vorgesehenen
Einsatzzweck. Die Formen werden im allgemeinen aus ei
nem großen Schleifkörper, der in einer Weise herge
stellt wird, wie sie im folgenden ausführlich beschrie
ben wird, geschnitten, beispielsweise durch Schneiden
mittels Laser. Die Schleifkörper können auch unregelmäßige
Form aufweisen und etwa durch Zerkleinern des großen
Schleifkörpers erhalten werden.
Die Schleifkörper können vor dem Einsetzen in den
Arbeitsteil des Werkzeugs mit einem dünnen Überzug aus
einem Metall oder einer Legierung versehen werden.
Die in den Schleifwerkzeugen gemäß der vorliegenden
Erfindung verwendeten Schleifkörper werden bei Temperaturen
und Drücken innerhalb des stabilen Bereichs des Dia
mants im Phasendiagramm des Kohlenstoffs hergestellt.
Insbesondere werden die Schleifkörper
in der Weise erzeugt, daß man
eine Masse Diamant-Teilchen in ein Reaktionsgefäß gibt,
eine Masse Silicium in Kontakt mit der Masse der Dia
mant-Teilchen bringt, das beschickte Reaktionsgefäß in
die Reaktionszone einer Hochtemperatur/Hochdruckappara
tur bringt, den Inhalt des Reaktionsgefäßes den Bedin
gungen erhöhter Temperatur und erhöhten Druckes in dem
stabilen Bereich des Diamants im Phasendiagramm des
Kohlenstoffs während einer Zeitspanne aussetzt, die zur
Herstellung des Körpers ausreicht, und dann den Körper
aus der Reaktionszone herausführt. Die bevorzugten Be
dingungen höherer Temperatur und höheren Drucks sind
Temperaturen im Bereich von 1400°C bis 1600°C und
Drücke im Bereich von 50 bis 70 kbar. Diese Bedingungen
höherer Temperatur und höheren Drucks werden eine für
die Erzeugung des Körpers ausreichende Zeitspanne zur
Einwirkung gebracht. Typischerweise hält man die Bedin
gungen höherer Temperatur und höheren Drucks während
einer Zeitspanne von 5 bis 20 min aufrecht. Das Sili
cium kann in Form von Pulver oder in Form einer Platte
oder Folie bereitgestellt werden. Zur Erzielung der
vorteilhaften Diamant-zu-Diamant-Bindung hat es sich
als besonders günstig erwiesen und wird demgemäß bevor
zugt, das Silicium während der Fertigung des Körpers in
die Diamant-Masse einsickern zu lassen. Die Diamant-zu-
Diamant-Bindung ist in erster Linie ein physikalisches
Ineinandergreifen Diamant-zu-Diamant und eine Bindung,
die durch plastische Deformation der Diamant-Teilchen
während der Herstellung des Elements erzeugt wird.
Das Reaktionsgefäß, das mit den Diamanten und dem Sili
cium beschickt wird, kann aus Molybdän, Tantal, Titan
oder einem gleicherweise hochschmelzenden carbidbilden
den Metall hergestellt sein. Es wird angenommen, daß
der Einschluß der Masse aus Diamanten und Silicium
innerhalb eines solchen Reaktionsgefäßes während der
Herstellung zu der ausgezeichneten Diamant-zu-Diamant-
Bindung, die tatsächlich erzielt wird, beiträgt.
Die bei der Herstellung der Schleifkörper eingesetz
ten Diamant-Teilchen können von groben bis zu feinen
Teilchen variieren. Im allgemeinen pflegen die Teilchen
eine Größe von weniger als 100 µm aufzuweisen und typi
scherweise eine Größe im Bereich von 10 bis 75 µm zu
besitzen. Die bevorzugte Größe liegt im Bereich von 15
bis 30 µm.
Die Hochtemperatur/Hochdruckapparatur ist gemäß dem
Stand der Technik wohlbekannt; hierzu vgl. beispiels
weise die US-PS 29 41 248.
Die vorliegende Erfindung wird durch das folgende Bei
spiel näher erläutert.
Eine Masse aus Diamant-Teilchen (12,5 g) wurde in einen
Becher aus Tantal gefüllt. Eine Schicht aus Silicium-
Pulver (1,86 g) wurde auf die Oberseite der Masse der
Diamanten gegeben. Auf die offene Oberseite des Tantal-
Bechers wurde ein Deckel aus Tantal gelegt.
Der gefüllte Becher wurde in die Reaktionszone einer
konventionellen Hochtemperatur/Hochdruckapparatur ge
setzt und einer Temperatur von 1500°C und einem Druck
von 55 kbar ausgesetzt und diese Bedingungen wurden während
einer Zeitspanne von 10 min aufrechterhalten. Aus der
Reaktionszone gewonnen wurde ein scheibenförmiger
Schleifkörper, der eine Masse aus Diamant-Teilchen, in
der eine wesentliche Menge Bindungen Diamant-zu-Diam
ant vorlag, die eine zusammenhängende Skelett-Masse
bildete, und eine zweite Phase umfaßte, die Silicium
carbid und eine kleine Menge Silicium enthielt und
gleichmäßig in der gesamten Diamant-Masse verteilt war.
Ein derartiger scheibenförmiger Schleifkörper weist die
positiven Schleifeigenschaften auf, wie sie oben
angegeben sind.
Claims (2)
1. Verwendung eines Schleifkörpers, der eine Masse aus
Diamantteilchen, die in einer Menge von 80 bis 90 Vol.-%
des Einsatzes vorliegen, und eine zweite Phase, die in
einer Menge von 10 bis 20 Vol.-% des Einsatzes vor
liegt, umfaßt, wobei die Masse aus Diamantteilchen im
wesentlichen Bindungen Diamant-zu-Diamant enthält, wo
durch eine zusammenhängende Skelett-Masse gebildet
wird, und die zweite Phase im wesentlichen aus Silicum
besteht, das in Form von Silicium und/oder Silicium
carbid vorliegt, zur Herstellung eines Schleifwerk
zeugs, wobei der Körper während der Fertigung des
Werkzeugs Temperaturen oberhalb von 850°C ausgesetzt
wird.
