Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a paper machine for producing a tissue web, comprising a wet side with at least one forming wire for forming and conveying a paper web and a drying section with a drying cylinder in which the paper web is dried, the paper machine having a first operating arrangement for producing a soft crepe paper web with certain specific volume and softness values, in which first operating arrangement the drying section is provided with a felt which is movable in a loop and is arranged such that it runs from a receiving means at the transition between the wet side and the drying section to a press roll which forms a draw-in wedge with the drying cylinder, the felt carrying the paper web on its underside and the conveying forming wire being arranged such that it runs to the receiving means in the drying section in order to transport the paper web in a shaped manner to the felt.
For example, the tissue web produced in a conventional paper machine of the type described in the introduction has certain maximum values in terms of specific bulk and softness. In order to achieve specific volume and/or softness values above these maximum values, special processes have been used, such as mixing in expandable hollow microbeads of thermoplastic material, as described in US patent 4,619,734, or using machines that operate with through-drying, see for example US patents 3,303,576, US 3,812,000, US 3,821,068 and US 4,036,684, in which the through-drying was carried out in cylinders with a perforated outer surface, which can be covered, for example, with a textile fabric, whereby the hot drying air is fed internally and passes back out through the cylinder surface, or in the opposite direction.
US Patent 4,144,124 describes a twin-wire machine for producing a tissue web, wherein the conveying forming wire extends to and beyond a press roll from which the paper web is conveyed to a Yankee cylinder, the press roll being enveloped by a felt loop and possibly also an embossing wire.
Das GB-Patent 602.237 betrifft eine Fourdrinier-Maschine zur Herstellung einer Tissuebahn, worin die geformte Papierbahn zu einem Aufnahmefilz befördert wird, der in einer Schleife zwischen dem Fourdrinier-Former und der Walze läuft, die aus einer Preßwalze bestehen kann, welche gegen einen Yankeezylinder drückt, wobei die Unterseite der Papierbahn von dem Aufnahmefilz getragen wird, der von einem in einer Schleife laufenden Abdeckfilz bedeckt ist.GB Patent 602,237 relates to a Fourdrinier machine for producing a tissue web, in which the formed paper web is conveyed to a take-up felt running in a loop between the Fourdrinier former and the roll, which may consist of a press roll pressing against a Yankee cylinder, the underside of the paper web being supported by the take-up felt which is covered by a cover felt running in a loop.
However, the twin-wire machine and the Fourdrinier machine for producing tissue webs are designed in such a way that they cannot be easily converted to other operating arrangements in order to produce tissue webs of different qualities in terms of specific bulk and softness.
The purpose of the present invention is to solve the above-mentioned problem and to provide a paper machine for producing a tissue web that can be easily converted and thus enables adaptation to different market conditions, such as the competitive situation or changing customer needs.
The novelty of the invention lies essentially in the fact that the paper machine can be switched from the first operating arrangement to the second operating arrangement for producing a tissue web with higher specific volume and softness values compared to the first operating arrangement, and in the second operating arrangement the conveying forming wire is arranged in such a way that it is in a extended loop from the wet side to the press roll of the drying section, that the felt of the drying section is replaced by a perforated wire belt which is movable in a loop and is permeable to air and water and which is arranged to run from the receiving means to the press roll in contact with the extended conveying forming wire and at the same time encloses the paper web between these two so that a permanent sandwich structure is created, that means for generating air jets are arranged along the sandwich structure to remove the water from the paper web by the air penetrating the paper web, and that cleaning means are arranged along the loop of the wire belt to clean it so that the permeability to water and air is maintained.
Die Erfindung wird im folgenden unter Bezugnahme auf die Zeichnungen beschrieben, in denenThe invention is described below with reference to the drawings in which
Figur 1 eine schematische Darstellung einer Papiermaschine zur Herstellung einer Tissuebahn in einer ersten, herkömmlichen Betriebsanordnung ist;Figure 1 is a schematic representation of a paper machine for producing a tissue web in a first, conventional operating arrangement;
Figur 2 die Papiermaschine nach Figur 1 schematisch in einer zweiten, umgestellten Betriebsanordnung gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung darstellt;Figure 2 shows the paper machine according to Figure 1 schematically in a second, converted operating arrangement according to the present invention;
Figure 3 is a graph showing the relationship between dry strength and softness with respect to tissue webs produced in accordance with the two different operating arrangements.
Figure 1 is a schematic representation of parts of a conventional paper machine suitable for producing a tissue web, such as for paper handkerchiefs and other sanitary paper products. The paper machine shown is a twin-wire machine comprising a wet side 1 and a dryer section 2. The wet side comprises a stock outlet 3, a movable conveying forming wire 4, a movable covering forming wire 5 and a forming roll 6 which may be perforated and provided with suction means. The forming roll may also be smooth. The stock outlet 3 provides a single or multi-layer stock flow between the two moving forming wires 4,5 for forming a paper web 7 by dewatering the stock. The two forming wires 4,5 run together over the forming roll 6 and then in separate loops over several rolls arranged to drive, guide, align and stretch the conveying forming wire 4 and the covering forming wire 5. The rolls defining the path of the covering forming wire 5 include a breast roll 8 and, a short distance after the forming roll 6, an idler roll 9 which may be referred to as a forward drive roll. The cover forming wire 5 leaves the conveying forming wire 4 and the paper web 7 either immediately before the wire 4 and the paper web 7 depart from the forming roll 6, or at a transfer wire sucker (not shown) or other transfer means located between the forming roll 6 and the forward drive roll 9. The conveying forming wire 4 runs to the drying section 2 where it leaves the paper web 7 by changing direction around a guide roll 11.
The drying section 2 comprises a drying cylinder 12 with a relatively large diameter and a polished, cylindrical surface. The drying cylinder 12, preferably consisting of a Yankee cylinder, is covered by a hood (not shown) in which hot air is blown at high speed against the paper web 7. The paper web is creped by the Yankee cylinder 12 with the aid of a creping knife (not shown) in order to obtain the desired crepe structure, and then the finished creped paper is wound around a roll. The drying section 2 further comprises a felt 13 which is arranged upstream of the Yankee cylinder 12 and which is arranged in a Loop around several rollers and around a receiving means, suitably in the form of a roller 14, which is located closest to the wet side 1 and thus also near the guide roller 11 for the conveying forming screen 4, and a press roller 15 which presses against the Yankee cylinder 12 and is provided with suction means 16 for dewatering the paper web before the latter comes into contact with the Yankee cylinder 12. The receiving means can also consist of a receiving shoe. Furthermore, two guide rollers 17, 18 are mounted between the receiving roller 14 and the press roller 15, the two guide rollers 17 and 18 deflecting the course of the felt 13 by a small angle. After the press roll 15, in contact with the Yankee cylinder, there is a blind-bored roll 19. The paper web 7 is conveyed to the felt 13 at the point where the felt and the conveying forming wire 4 converge at the take-up roll 14 and separate immediately thereafter. Suitable pretreatment means (not shown) are arranged along the loop of the felt 13 to pretreat the felt before contacting the paper web.
In Figure 2, the same paper machine as in Figure 1 is shown schematically as regards its basic construction, but supplemented and modified in accordance with the present invention, such that it can be converted between a first operating arrangement according to Figure 1 and a second operating arrangement according to Figure 2. The modifications for the second operating arrangement essentially consist in that the felt 13 is removed and replaced by an endless, perforated, air and water permeable screen belt 25, and that the conveying forming screen 4a is extended up to the Yankee cylinder 12 so that it runs in a larger loop and over a fixed sector of the press roll 15 compared to the first operating arrangement. The conveying forming screen 4a runs in contact with the belt 25 from the take-up roll 14 to the press roll 15, taking up the paper web 7 between itself and the belt 25 so that the latter forms the middle layer of a permanent sandwich structure which remains up to the press roll 15.
A guide roller 26 is mounted in the larger loop of the conveying forming wire 4a, after and spaced from the point where the belt 25 meets the press roll 15, so that the conveying forming wire 4a runs around the specified sector of the press roll 15, which is sufficient to convey the paper web onto the wire belt by means of the suction means 16 inside the press roll 15, the suction means being mounted within the said sector to reach into the intake wedge formed by the press roll 15 and the Yankee cylinder 12. Furthermore, additional rollers 27 are mounted inside and outside the larger loop of the conveying forming wire 4a to guide and stretch it. The above-mentioned guide roller 11 is not used in this modified second operating arrangement.
No additional rollers are required to install the belt 25. Instead, the loop can be shortened compared to the previously used felt 13 because the roller 19 is superfluous, and thus also the two guide rollers 20, 21 in its vicinity.
The screen suction devices 28 can be attached in front of the guide roller 14, where the paper web 7 is correspondingly exposed. (Such suction means can also be used in the first operating arrangement). The paper web can thus be dewatered to a dry content of maximum 25%. By the described extension of the conveying forming screen 4a and by enabling it to interact with an open screen belt 25, which has the same or essentially the same water and air permeability as the conveying forming screen 4a, such that the paper web is between these two in a permanent sandwich structure as described, it is now possible to arrange additional dewatering means producing air jets along this sandwich structure in order to further increase the dry content fraction upstream of the Yankee cylinder. In the modified operating arrangement of the paper machine shown in Figure 2, these means comprise a wire sucker 29 arranged on the underside of the sandwich structure immediately after the guide roll 14, and a pair of wire suckers 30, 31 arranged on the upper side of the sandwich structure, downstream of the lower wire sucker, and a steam blow-off pipe 32 arranged on the other side of the sandwich structure, opposite the wire sucker 30. Furthermore, a blow nozzle (not shown) can be arranged on the press roll 15 in the loop for the forming wire 4a, opposite the sector of the press roll 15 where part of the suction means 16 is arranged. In addition, cleaning agents are also installed at one or more points between the press roller 15 and the take-up roller 14, viewed in the direction of movement of the screen belt, which thoroughly clean the screen belt to ensure that its water and air permeability is permanently maintained. In the example shown, these cleaning agents comprise a water spray pipe 33 inside the loop and two screen suction cups 34, 35 as well as an oscillating high-pressure spray pipe 36 which is installed between the screen suction cups outside the loop, immediately downstream of the water spray pipe 33. Furthermore, a water spray pipe 38 is installed on the intake wedge of the open belt 25 and the roller 37 after the screen suction cups 34, 35, which supplies water to create a liquid film between the roller and the screen belt. A tube 39 for blowing out air is installed outside the loop, immediately before the last roller 40, before the belt 25 reaches the guide roller 14. The water from the water spray pipes 33 and 38 is collected in a tub 41.
The dryer section 2 may also include means (not shown) for IR heating the paper web 7. An IR hood may, for example, be mounted at a location on the Yankee cylinder 12 where the paper web is exposed between the press roll 15 and the dryer hood covering the Yankee cylinder 12. One or more IR hoods may also be mounted between the take-up roll 14 and the press roll 15 to heat the paper web while it forms the middle layer of the sandwich structure.
In its second operating arrangement according to Figure 2, the paper machine can be provided with a press felt (not shown) moving in a loop and arranged inside the loop of the wire belt 25 or the conveying forming wire 4a and running around a press roll (not shown) pressing against one side of the sandwich structure and an opposite press roll (not shown) which can also be covered by such an inner press felt. If desired, such an inner press loop arranged inside the loop of the wire belt 25 can be extended so that it also runs around the press roll 15.
Since the screen belt 25 is perforated or open, i.e. provided with a large number of holes in the thickness direction of the paper belt 7, it functions as an embossing belt, so that the paper web 7, when it passes the intake wedge between the press roller 15 and the Yankee cylinder 12, is partially pressed into these holes, resulting in a relief pattern. These parts of the paper web pressed into the holes are not subjected to any significant pressure and therefore contribute to higher specific volume and softness values.
The paper machine described can be easily adapted to the different operating arrangements to produce tissue webs of different qualities in terms of specific bulk and softness, depending on the different market conditions prevailing at different times. These conditions can change rapidly from one time to the next. Furthermore, the additional drying devices provided in the second operating arrangement in the area of the sandwich structure allow increased dry content proportions upstream of the Yankee cylinder, so that the paper machine can be operated at a higher speed, which at least substantially reaches the speed of the through-drying machines mentioned in the introduction.
Figure 3 illustrates the relationship between dry strength and softness. Line A indicates the average values for tissue webs produced using the conventional first operating arrangement of the paper machine. It is clear that a desired increased strength results in a decreased softness. Conversely, a desired increased softness results in a decreased strength of the tissue web. Line B indicates the average values for the tissue web produced after the second operating arrangement of the paper machine according to the present invention. It is clear that within a desired strength range for the tissue web, a higher softness is achieved compared to the values of the tissue web produced using the conventional paper machine arrangement.
The invention has been described in connection with a twin-wire machine, but it is also applicable to Fourdrinier machines in which the supporting forming wire, ie the Fourdrinier wire, is extended to the Yankee cylinder in the same way as the conveying forming wire 4a in the described twin-screen machine.
