Description
Process for drying and storing water-containing, volatile Substances of leading products Silica gel is known to be an excellent means of to dewater substances of all kinds. The use of silica gel however, there is a limit to the drainage where there is still a drainage in the material to be drained It contains substances that are also adsorbed by the silica gel.
It is possible to use volatile substances, preferably essential oils containing water-containing plants, to be dried over silica gel: at the same time but the essential oils and the like are also adsorbed by the silica gel. It can So this otherwise excellent method of drying a wide variety of goods are not used wherever the goods to be dried are still apart from water contains other volatile substances that should be retained in it.
It has now been found that it is possible to use such substances Help of silica gels to dry, namely when the drying too using silica gel is previously loaded with the volatiles that come from should not be removed from the goods to be dried.
Ausführungsbeispiele i. The implementation of the reuen method is not limited to the silica gel. You can also use other similar behaving hydrophilic gels, such as. B. titanium hydroxide gel, zinc hydroxide gel or aluminum hydroxide gel. These hydrophilic gels can also be used in addition to hydrophobic adsorbents, such as, for example, active charcoal. Care must always be taken that the adsorbents are already loaded with the substances that cannot be removed from the material to be dried before they are used. Embodiments i. 25 kg of Folia Menthae piperitae are placed in one of the chambers in a container which can be hermetically sealed and is divided into two parts by a perforated partition. In the other chamber 5 kg of anhydrous silica gel are filled, which are mixed with 50 g of Oleum Menthae piperitae.
The silica gel then becomes saturated with oleum melissae and is then used to store Folia melissae in the manner described in example i. Comparison tests A trituration of fresh Salvia officinalis with grape sugar was divided into two parts and one part was placed in a desiccator in which there were 700 g of silica gel to which 2 g of oleum salviae had been added. The amount investigated was 500 g of the trituration of the fresh plant in all cases. The initial essential oil content in this salvia preparation was 0.131 / 0. Both desiccators remained standing for a month under completely identical conditions. It was then again investigated the content of essential 01 in the Salviapräparat wherein resulted in the desiccator which Oleum salviae contained, a content of essential of 01 o, io%. The other preparation in the desiccator without added oil only had an essential oil content of 0.05% after the same storage period, i.e. by adding the essential oil to the silica gel, the loss of 50% essential oil was avoided.
Es gelingt also durch dieses neue Verfahren, Präparate trocken aufzubewahren, ohne daß sie ihren Gehalt an Öl einbüßen, was bei längerer Lagerungsdauer vollständig eintritt. This new process makes it possible to store preparations in a dry place, without that they lose their oil content, which is completely with a longer storage period entry.
It should also be noted that the drying properties of the adsorbent are retained even after loading with essential oils. This is clear from the following comparison: Fresh thuja leaves are triturated with sugar in the ratio i: i. This mixture has a water content of 30.10% and an oil content of 0.9%. This mass is placed in two desiccators filled with silica gel. Desiccator z contains ordinary dry silica gel; Desiccator 2 contains silica gel which is loaded with 30i0 essential thuja oil. After 27 days, the material contained in the desiccator (usually silica gel) still contains 22.90% water, while the silica gel has absorbed 6.21% water. The content of the dry material of essential 01 is 0,30o. In the second desiccator, which contains the silica gel loaded with essential oil, the water content of the dry material falls to 24.60 / 0 at the same time. The silica gel takes up 4.3% water. The content of the trituration of essential is 01 o, 460 / 0th The drying capacity of the gel loaded with 3% essential oil decreases somewhat, but is still well preserved. When using the pure adsorbent a loss of o, 60% essential oil thus enters --_ 65%, while with the use of silica gel loaded with ethereal 01 only the loss .I80 / is 0th
The new process is not only of technical importance for drying water-based products, but it also enables essential oils and the like leading, To store dry, but water-attracting products for long periods of time without that a change occurs during storage. The storage protects of the products via the adsorbents pretreated as described above from humidity, without having to fear that they will lose the valuable ones when they are stored Substances suffer. The new method is therefore suitable for keeping dry in a more hygroscopic manner To effect substances.
