Abstract

A vacuum drying cupboard incorporates shelves constructed as heat exchangers which maintain the temp. at a required level. The upper and lower shelf panels are sheet metal. Adjacent upper and lower shelves are joined by their ends and the cavity within each shelf contg. the heat transfer fluid medium is sub-divided into sections by intermediate structures. The novelty is that (a) the ends (11-14) of the upper shelf face (5) metal panel and the lower face (6) metal panel are extended to form side-strips, (b) that the end edges (11,13) of each upper panel (5) and the end-edges (12,14) of the lower panel (6) contact the neighbouring heating/cooling surface (4) to form a vacuum-tight join, (c) the outer upper panel (5') and the outer lower panel (6') are fabricated without any significant side-strip, (d) the depressions (2-2""") formed by the upper (5) and lower (6) panels and the side strips (11-14) are held by a frame (15,150) within the door (3,30) and together form a vacuum chamber.
