Nach dem vorliegenden Verfahren setzt man die angegebenen Stoffe nicht in Substanz dem Beizbade zu, sondern verwendet geeignete Extrakte dieser Stoffe. Es hat sich gezeigt, daß nicht die Hauptbestandteile dieser Stoffe, wie z. B. Anthrazen, Naphthalin, Phenol usw., eine besonders günstige Wirkung ausüben, sondern Beimengungen, deren chemische Konstitution bisher nicht aufgeklärt werden konnte, die aber fast ständige Begleiter der erwähnten Substanz sind. Man kann die fraglichen Stoffe durch anorganische Säuren, neutrale oder saure Salze, organische Lösungsmittel, wie Kohlenwasserstoffe (Petroleum, Teeröle), extrahieren. Zweckmäßig extrahiert man die betreffenden Stoffe mit drei bis vier Teilen Schwefelsäure verschiedener Grädigkeit, Salzsäure und anderen geeigneten Extraktionsmitteln und setzt dem Beizbade je nach Stärke ι bis 10 Prozent dieses Extraktes zu. Auch die bei der Reinigung von Erdölen, Braunkohlenteerölen, Steinkohlenteerölen, Paraffin u. dgl. mit Schwefelsäure entstehenden Abfall- j säuren oder Säureharze sowie Destillations- j rückstände organischer Verbindungen jeder j Art, insbesondere Rückstände, bei denen eine j pyrogene Zersetzung stattgefunden hat, können verwendet werden.
