Nährboden zur Diagnose und Unterscheidung von Diphteriebakterien. Die genaue Diagnose von Diphtheriebakterien ist außerordentlich schwierig, weil es eine Reihe ähnlicher Bakterien gibt, die hin= sichtlich des Verhaltens gegenüber den bekannten Farbstoffen und hinsichtlich der sonstigen Formen den echten Diphtheriebakterien außerordentlich ähnlich sind. Der vorliegende neue Nährboden gestattet eine Unterscheidung der Diphtheriebakterien von diphtherieähnlichen Bakterien. Der Nährboden ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß er außer den sonstigen üblichen Bestandteilen zur Erzielung des Wachstums von Bakterien das Blutserum von trächtig gewesenen Tieren enthält. Auf derartigen Nährböden nehmen die Kolonien der echten Diphtheriebakterien eine gelbe Farbe an, während die Pseudodiphtheriebazillenein weißgraues Aussehen erhalten. Andere Bakterien, welche auf dem Nährboden gelb wachsen, produzieren selbst den Farbstoff, wie z. B. der Staphylococcus aureus; sie nehmen ihn nicht aus dem Nährboden heraus.
