Von den im wesentlichen rechteckigen Breitseiten dient ein Oberteil als Auflage- bzw. Liegefläche für eine Person, ein Unterteil dagegen als Bodenteil und zur Auflage auf einer Bodenfläche. Sowohl das Oberteil als auch das Bodenteil sind im wesentlichen eben. Allerdings gibt es auch Luftmatratzen mit geringfügig strukturierten Ober- und Bodenteilen. Die Ventile 3,4 sind zweckmäßig so gestaltet, daß sie in das Matratzenmaterial eindrückbar sind, zumindest im aufgeblasenen Zustand, damit sie keine störenden, nach außen ragenden Vorsprünge bilden. Außerdem kann der Hohlkörper außer den beschriebenen Kammern und Hohlräumen 17,19 weitere Kammern und/oder Hohlräume aufweisen, die entweder durch Öffnungen mit anderen Kammern und/oder Hohlräumen verbunden oder mit eigenen Ventilen versehen sind. So könnte es beispielsweise zweckmäßig sein, die Seitenwandabschnitte 9,10 bzw. 11,12 als Oberteile von separaten, an die seitlichen Konturen der Luftmatratze grenzenden Kammern auszubilden, deren Wandungen längs Schweißnähten 21 (Fig. 1) od. dgl. mit dem Oberteil 1, dem Bodenteil 2 und ggf. den Umfangsabschnitten verbunden werden und die z.B. mit zusätzlichen Ventilen versehen sind, damit sie einzeln aufgeblasen werden können.
