Bei der Anwendung des vorliegenden Verfahrens ist es von grundlegender Bedeutung, daß die behandelte Schlempe vollkommen getrocknet ist und absoluter Alkohol angewendet wird. Wenn man nämlich wässerigen Alkohol benutzt, oder unvollständig entwässerte Schlempe behandelt, so werden gleichzeitig mit dem Glyzerin eine große Zahl von Verunreinigungen gelöst, besonders Metallsalze, die in absolutem Alkohol unlöslich, in wasserhaltigem dagegen teilweise löslich sind. Die Löslichkeit dieser Verunreinigungen in wässerigem Alkohol wird noch durch die Gegenwart des Glyzerins vermehrt, und das unter solchem Umstände wiedergewonnene Glyzerin enthält Metallsalze, von denen es getrennt werden muß. Nun ist es aber unmöglich, diese Rektifikation des Glyzerins in Gegenwart von Metallsalzen vorzunehmen, ohne einen Teil des Glyzerins zu zerstören. Diese Nachteile lassen sich beim Arbeiten nach dem vorliegenden Verfahren vermeiden.
