Der mechanische Fafsspund hat den Zweck, die Spundlöcher der Fässer dicht und sicher zu verschliefsen. Er besteht aus dem Gehäuse A, dem Verschlufsstück B, dem zur Dichtung dienenden Gummiring C und dem Schlüssel D. Hierauf wird der aus Rundeisen gebogene, an seinem kurzen Ende mit einem vierkantigen Ansatz versehene Schlüssel D, Fig. i, in die vierkantige Aussenkung j des Verschlufssückes eingesetzt und von links nach rechts gedreht. Dabei greifen die Rippen r, r des Verschlufsstückes unter die sich nach unten in Gewindegangform verbreitenden Knaggen KK, wodurch das Verschlufsstück niedergedrückt wird. Auf diese Weise wird der auf den untern Ansatz des Verschlufsstückes aufgesteckte und in der in Fig. 1 und 2 sichtbaren Rinne e, festliegende Gummiring C, zwischen dem ihn deckenden Bund und dem Boden des Gehäuses A zusammengedrückt und schliefst die Oeffnung vollkommen ab.The housing A is conical, has a sharp thread on the outside and is screwed tightly into the bunghole of the barrel.
