Gegenstand der Erfindung ist eine Vorrichtung zum Verschweißen von zwei einseitig gereckten thermoplastischen Kunststoff-Folien, welche mit ihrer Reckrichtung gleichlaufend aufeinanderliegen mit einer Heizvorrichtung mit Heizelementen, die mit Abstand parallel zueinander angeordnet sind und nur von einer Seite wirken, wobei der Gegendruck von einem nicht beheizten Körper ausgeübt wird.
Es ist bekannt, Gegenstände unterschiedlicher Art, beispielsweise Packungen, zum Schutz gegen Umwelteinflüsse in Kunststoff-Folien einzuschlagen und danach die sich überlappenden Teile der Folien zwecks Herstellung eines Verschlusses miteinander zu verbinden. Soll der Gegenstand auch in seiner Umhüllung sichtbar sein, bedient man sich hierzu durchsichtiger Folien. Durch die Verwendung von Folien mit hohem Oberflächenglanz, Bedruckung, Prägung, Einfärbung u. dgl. wird den Packungen außerdem ein gefälliges Aussehen verliehen.
Für den genannten Zweck wurden bislang meistens Folien aus Zellglas bzw. Hydratzellulose verwendet. Das Verbinden der sich überlappenden Teile dieser Art Folie erfolgt üblicherweise mit Hilfe wäßriger Klebstoffe. Die Haftfestigkeit an den Klebstellen ist jedoch nicht sehr erheblich. Daneben weist die Zellglasfolie noch den Nachteil auf, daß sie in hohem Maße feuchtigkeitsempfindlich und wasserdampfdurchlässig ist. Um diese Feuchtigkeitsempfindlichkeit und Wasserdampfdurchlässigkeit zu verringern, ist es bekannt, die Folie für bestimmte Anwendungszwecke ein- oder beidseitig mit dünnen Schichten von Schutzlacken zu überziehen, wodurch die Möglichkeit zum Verbinden von Folien im Heißsiegelverfahren gegeben ist. Hierdurch werden jedoch die erwähnten Nachteile nur zum kleineren Teil aufgehoben, wobei noch hinzukommt, daß der Lackauftrag gesonderte, zusätzliche Arbeitsgänge erforderlich macht.
Folien aus Polyvinylchlorid dagegen zeichnen sich durch Wasserdampfundurchlässigkeit und Feuchtigkeitsunempfindlichkeit aus. Man hat sie auf Grund dieser Eigenschaft daher bereits zum Verpacken der verschiedensten Güter verwendet. Wenngleich diese Folien auch den erwünschten Oberflächenglanz aufweisen, so ist doch ihre Durchsichtigkeit im Vergleich zu den bisher benutzten Zellglasfolien geringer. Man erhält jedoch Polyvinylchloridfolien mit einer Durchsichtigkeit, die der der Zellglasfolien gleichkommt, wenn man derartige Folien bei ihrer Herstellung reckt. Durch den Reckvorgang werden gleichzeitig auch ihre mechanischen Eigenschaften, beispielsweise ihre Reißfestigkeit, erheblich verbessert.

Zum Verkleben von Folien, insbesondere solcher aus gerecktem Polyvinylchlorid, sind jedoch Klebstoffe auf wäßriger Grundlage nicht verwendbar, sondern man könnte nur solche benutzen, welche quellend auf die PVC-Folie einwirkende, organische Lösungsmittel enthalten. Diese Lösungsmittel besitzen aber in der Mehrzahl einen Eigengeruch, der leicht auf das Verpackungsgut übergehen kann, was unerwünscht ist. Zum anderen verdunsten diese organischen Lösungsmittel sehr rasch, so daß sich das Aufbringen mit den an den Verpackungsautomaten befindlichen Auftragswerken praktisch nicht durchführen läßt.
Es ist nun bekannt, Kunststoff-Folien, beispielsweise solche aus PVC, durch Verschweißung miteinander zu verbinden. Dieses Verfahren bereitet keine Schwierigkeiten, solange es sich dabei um das Verbinden ungereckter Folien handelt. Ein Verschweißen gereckter Folien, insbesondere weichmacher-, freier, ist aber auf diese Weise nicht möglich, da solche Folien durch die Wärmeeinwirkung beim Schweißvorgang sofort stark schrumpfen, ja sogar einreißen. Die Temperatur, bei der das Schrumpfen eintritt, liegt bei gereckter, weichmacherfreier PVC-Folie um etwa 80° C. Eine Verschweißung tritt dagegen erst bei etwa 180° C ein.
Es ist aber bereits vorgeschlagen worden, gereckte Folien, beispielsweise solche aus weichmacherhaltigem Polyvinylidenchlorid-Mischpolymerisat zu verschweißen. Ein Weichmacherzusatz zu Folien wirkt nicht nur plastifizierend auf sie ein, sondern setzt zudem ihren Erweichungspunkt, bei welchem die Verschweißung eintritt, herab. Wenngleich auch dann der Temperaturunterschied zwischen den Punkten, an denen Schrumpfung und bei welchen Verschwei-

ßung eintritt, verkleinert wird, so ist dennoch das Verschweißen weichmacherhaltiger, gereckter Folien mit Schwierigkeiten verbunden, und fast immer tritt in der Umgebung der Schweißnähte eine das Aussehen beeinträchtigende Kräuselung der Folie, bedingt durch die Schrumpfung ein.
Da der Weichmacher weichmacherhaltiger Folien häufig in das zu verpackende Gut wandert, eignen sich diese Art Kunststoff-Folien daher nicht zum Umhüllen von Lebensmitteln. Diesen Nachteil weisen weichmacherfreie Folien, insbesondere solche aus ge-, recktem, weichmacherfreiem PVC nicht auf, jedoch stößt deren Verschweißung, wie bereits vorstehend aufgeführt, auf große Schwierigkeiten.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß ein Verbinden gereckter, weichmacherfreier Kunststoff-Folien, insbesondere solcher aus Polyvinylchlorid, möglich ist, wenn man zu diesem Zweck einseitig gereckte, weichmacherfreie Folien verwendet.
Auch eine einseitig gereckte Kunststoff-Folie, insbesondere eine solche aus weichmacherfreiem PVC, schrumpft bei der Wärmeeinwirkung stark. Wird eine solche einseitig gereckte Folie, insbesondere eine solche aus weichmacherfreiem PVC, zwischen zwei üblichen, sehmalen, durchlaufenden länglichen Schweißbacken erhitzt, so wird, wenn die Backen quer zur Reckrichtung verlaufen, die gereckte Folie zwar zwischen den Backen verschweißt, weil sie an dieser Stelle durch den hier auf sie ausgeübten Druck gehalten wird, aber im Bereich der Ränder der Bakken wird die Folie nicht verschweißt, sondern nur erhitzt, wobei sie erweicht. Da es sich um eine gereckte, weichmacherfreie Folie handelt, beginnt sie an den Randstellen schon weit unterhalb der Schweißtemperatur zu schrumpfen und reißt zu beiden Seiten der Backen auf, so daß die Folie durchlöchert und die erstrebte Schutzwirkung dadurch hinfällig ist.
Dieser unerwünschte Übelstand läßt sich überraschenderweise durch die erfindungsgemäße Vorrichtung zum Verbinden von einseitig gereckten Kunststoff-Folien, insbesondere solchen aus Polyvinylchlorid, vermeiden. Erfindungsgemäß wird bei der eingangs bezeichneten Vorrichtung vorgeschlagen, daß die Heizelemente in Richtung der Reckrichtung verlaufen und sie quer zur Reckrichtung eine geringe Auflage aufweisen. Die Heizelemente bestehen hierbei aus Widerstandsdraht geringen Durchmessers. Auch in diesem Fall wird die Folie zwischen dem Heizelement und dem nicht beheizten Körper verschweißt, wobei im Bereich der Backen ebenfalls ein Erweichen eintritt. Da sich aber eine ,einseitig gereckte Folie, insbesondere eine solche aus weichmacherfreiem Polyvinylchlorid, nunmehr quer zu ihrer Reckrichtung ausdehnt, wird sie an diesen Rändern lediglich leicht aufgeworfen, reißt aber nicht auf. Es ist auf diese Weise möglich, beim Umhüllen von Gegenständen, beispielsweise von Schachteln, mit einseitig gereckter Kunststoff-Folie, insbesondere aus weichmacherfreiem PVC, den Überschlag durch Verschweißung der sich überlappenden Folienteile in günstiger Weise zu verbinden. Man erhält auf diese Weise an den Schweißstellen überraschenderweise eine gut haltende und sichere Verbindung der beiden Folienenden.
Zur thermischen Verschweißung thermoplastischer Kunststoff-Folien bedient man sich üblicherweise des Wärmekontakt-, Wärmeimpuls- oder Hochfrequenzverfahrens. Bei der Ausübung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens wird der Anwendung des Wärmeimpuls-Verfahrens der Vorzug gegeben.
Es ist eine Vorrichtung zum Verschweißen thermoplastischer Kunststoff-Folien bekannt, bei der ein heißes Werkzeug auf die Folien kurz aufgedrückt wird. Der Gegendruck wird hierbei von dem zu verpackenden Gegenstand ausgeübt. Hierbei besteht das Werkzeug aus parallel zueinander verlaufenden Heizelementen, die jedoch in Querrichtung eine große
ίο Ausdehnung aufweisen. Bei der Verschweißung wird jedoch keine Rücksicht auf eine eventuelle Reckrichtung der Folie genommen. Zudem eignet sich das Werkzeug mit seinen großflächigen Heizelementen nicht zum Verschweißen von gereckten Kunststoff-Folien.
Es ist bereits eine Schweißvorrichtung bekannt, bei welcher mehrere, getrennt voneinander liegende Schweißelemente in Form spitzer Dorne ausgebildet sind. Da diese Dorne nur einen kleinen Durchmesser besitzen, besteht die große Gefahr, daß gereckte Folien beim Verschweißen mit dieser bekannten Vorrichtung aufreißen, so daß der Zweck der Folie hinfällig wird. Zudem sind die Schweißstellen sehr klein, so daß eine zufriedenstellende Verbindung beider Folienenden mit der gewünschten Sicherheit nicht gewährleistet ist.
Die erfindungsgemäße Vorrichtung vermeidet diesen Nachteil. Das Schweißwerkzeug besteht aus mehreren einzelnen, getrennt in einer Reihe angeordneten Schweißelementen, deren Breite quer zur Reckrichtung der einseitig gereckten Folie möglichst ge-' ring ist, die aber gleichlaufend mit der Reckvorrichtung eine, ihre Breite um ein Vielfaches übertreffende Längenausdehnung besitzen. Beim Arbeiten nach dem Wärmeimpulsverfahren kann ein Schweißwerkzeug, das aus einer Heizspirale aus Widerstandsdraht besteht, benutzt werden. Vorteilhaft hat das Schweißwerkzeug zu diesem Zweck die Form' einer flachen Spirale, die auf einem flachen Träger, z.B. einem Keramik- oder Glasrohr aufgewickelt ist. Nach einer bevorzugten Ausführung kann der Träger von einem geeigneten Kühlmittel durchflossen werden.
Die beiliegende Zeichnung zeigt schematisch ein Ausführungsbeispiel einer erfindungsgemäß zu verwendenden Vorrichtung. Auf den flachen Träger 1 aus Keramik- oder Glasrohr ist in parallelen, in einem Abstand von ungefähr 5 bis 10 mm voneinander liegenden Windungen eine Spirale 2 aus Widerstandsdraht aufgebracht. Dieser z. B. aus Konstanten bestehende Widerstandsdraht, hat einen möglichst geringen Durchmesser, z. B. 0,4 mm. Die Länge des flachliegenden Teiles der Spirale beträgt beispielsweise 5 bis 10 mm. Die Spirale 2 wird über die Anschlüsse 3 und 3' miteis elektrischen Stromes nach dem Wärmeimpulsverfahren erhitzt. Der Träger 1 wird über den Zufluß 4 bzw. Abfluß 4' von einem geeigneten Kühlmittel durchflossen. An der Vorrichtung sind ferner Einrichtungen vorgesehen, mit Hilfe derer es möglich ist, entsprechend dem Widerstand des Drahtes die Stromspannung und die Wärmeimpulsdauer zu verändern, um sie auf die geeignetste Schweißtemperatur und -dauer einregulieren zu können.
Zur Ausübung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens kann diese Vorrichtung mit einer ihrer Flachseiten gegen die Überlappung der beiden Enden einseitig gereckter Kunststoff-Folien, insbesondere solcher aus weichmacherfreiem PVC, unter dem notwendigen
Druck herangeführt werden, und zwar so, daß die Vorrichtung quer zur Reckrichtung der Folie zu liegen kommt, d. h. also, daß einzelne Abschnitte der Flachwicklung gleich mit der Reckrichtung der Folie laufen. Dies läßt sich in einfacher Weise mit der Hand oder auch durch ein Pedal bewerkstelligen. Die Vorrichtung läßt sich aber auch leicht in Verpackungsautomaten einbauen.

Claims (2)

Patentansprüche:
1. Vorrichtung zum Verschweißen von zwei einseitig gereckten thermoplastischen Kunststoff-Folien, welche mit ihrer Reckrichtung gleichlaufend aufeinanderliegen mit einer Heizvorrichtung mit Heizelementen, die mit Abstand parallel zueinander angeordnet sind und nur von einer Seite wirken, wobei der Gegendruck von einem nichtbeheizten Körper ausgeübt wird, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Heizelemente in Richtung der Reckrichtung verlaufen und sie quer zur Reckrichtung eine geringe Auflage aufweisen.
2. Vorrichtung nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Heizelemente aus Widerstandsdraht geringen Durchmessers bestehen.
