Von den Kupferpräparaten zur Vertilgung und Bekämpfung von Pflanzenparasiten, wie Blattläusen u. s. w., sind in Deutschland nur die nach Art der Bordelaiserbrühe zusammengesetzten Lösungen in Gebrauch, die aus Kupfersulfat, Kalk und Zuckerkalk bestehen, sowie Mischungen von Kupfersulfat und Soda (Hollrung, »Handbuch der Chemischen Mittel gegen Pflanzenkrankheiten«, Berlin 1898,8. 109; Weifs, »Die schädlichsten Krankheiten unserer Feld-, Obst- u. s. w. Gewächse«, 1898, S. 67 und 71), obgleich die in Amerika üblichen Lösungen von Kupferkarbonat - Ammoniumkarbonat besonders vorzüglich sind (vergl. Hollrung, S. 112). Der Grand für diese Abneigung gegen das in Amerika mit so grofsem Erfolge benutzte Mittel liegt zweifellos darin, dafs seine Herstellung dem Landwirth Schwierigkeiten bereitet, weil Ammoniakflüssigkeit, deren Bezug Unbequemlichkeiten bereitet, hierzu nothwendig ist. Bisher gelang es nicht, Kupferkarbonat - Ammoniak in Form eines trockenen, vom Landwirth durch einfache Behandlung mit Wasser in eine sofort gebrauchsfertige Flüssigkeit überzuführenden Präparates zu erhalten, während die fertigen Mischungen von Kupfersulfat und Natriumkarbonat nur Kupferkarbonat liefern und die Vortheile von Kupferkarbonat-Ammoniak nicht besitzen (vergl. Diese Uebelstände . können dagegen dadurch vermieden werden, dafs man Kupfersulfat mit einer derartigen Mischung zusammen mengt, dafs beim Behandeln der Mischung mit Wasser Ammoniumkarbonat und Kupferkarbonat entstehen. Die so erhaltene Mischung enthält also ein Salz, das mit Kupfersulfat ein Karbonat liefert, und ein Ammoniumsalz, das wiederum von dem gleichzeitig vorhandenen Salze, welches mit Kupfersulfat' sich umsetzt, in Ammoniumkarbonat oder Ammoniak übergeführt wird.
