AUSLEGESCHRIFT: 14. DEZEMBER 1961 NOTIFICATION OF REGISTRATION AND ISSUE OF
EDITORIAL: DECEMBER 14, 1961
The invention relates to a device for protecting objects such as combat vehicles, War vehicles and fortifications, against HE shells, especially those with shaped charges, which consists of latticework arranged at a distance from the protected object, the free cross-sections of which are not are larger than the caliber of the smallest bullets to be shielded.
The penetration capacity of shaped charge grenades is generally quite significantly higher the penetration that can be achieved with other types of bullets of the same size.
A previously known option, within a moderate weight and at a moderate cost To achieve protection against shaped charges consisted of being outside of an object of its size after being suitable for protection against other types of armor-piercing projectiles, shields from to attach thin armored sheet metal, which forced a shaped charge projectile, so far from the protected object away to creak that the blasting jet of the projectile before impact to such a degree was weakened so that it could not penetrate this protection. These umbrellas are, however, with certain Has disadvantages, which is why they have only been used to a limited extent. So can only be Protect smaller parts of the property with these screens because it is necessary to protect them in a relative way a large distance, namely 1 to 2 m from the object, so that the protective effect is sufficient. Especially with these large distances, sheet metal screens would cover a larger part of the object cover, the field of vision of the crew, the range of motion of the weapon and the mobility of the Restrict the object too much. Another disadvantage of these sheet metal screens is that the same In relation to their strength, they have to absorb very large forces when they are in be hit in the vicinity of crashing projectiles, and be torn off the object, which they are supposed to protect.
Das ist aber so nahe, daß größere Hohlladungen bei ihrer Deto-Schutzvorrichtung Furthermore, it was also known to provide the protected object with latticework at a short distance, the distances between the bars are smaller than the largest diameter of the smallest bullets to be defended. This latticework has the task of igniting the projectiles before they reach the actual armor plates. However, they had to be so close to the protected object be arranged so that this is not hindered in its movement. But it is so suggest that larger shaped charges are used in their deto-protection device

nation nicht völlig ungefährlich für die Panzerplatten werden.nation will not be completely harmless to the armor plates.
The disadvantages of the previously known constructions are now overcome by the present invention eliminated, which is characterized in that the grid consists of approximately parallel rods, which means only fewer connecting organs are held together, there being between two positions can be moved closer and further away from the protected object.
This makes it possible to leave the grilles relatively close to the main armor in normal cases, so that they do not restrict freedom of movement, but still a certain amount Ensure protection. Only when the fighting is imminent will they be at a greater distance pushed out so that they offer more complete protection.
Der Abstand zwischen den Stangen ist zweckmäßigerweise ungefähr so groß wie das Kaliber der kleinsten Geschosse, gegen die die Schirme Schutz bieten sollen, so daß die Geschosse, wenn dieThe distance between the rods is expediently approximately as large as the caliber of the smallest projectiles against which the screens are supposed to offer protection, so that the projectiles, if the

The point of the bullet passes between the rods, nevertheless part of the same with part of the Meet the storey wall. The rods are dimensioned in such a way that they damage the Cause explosive charges in such projectiles.
In the case of a lattice protection intended in particular for combat vehicles, there is a free air gap of about 7 cm between the rods and a cross-section of the rods of at least 1 cm 2 .
By shaping the screens as a grid, it is possible to arrange them in such a way that the The field of vision for the crew of the armored object is not restricted to any significant extent. in the With regard to this, the greatest width of the bars in the grid plane may be normal eye relief (pupil distance), d. H. about 5 cm, not exceeding. Furthermore, these screens are not very sensitive against shock waves from crashing projectiles.
Projectiles with a shaped charge are very sensitive to damage in the explosive charge. Even small cracks can cause a significant decrease in their effectiveness. Cause greater damage even that the effect is completely absent. By choosing the right distance between the Lattice bars and the dimensions of the bars will damage the lattice in most cases on the projectile and the explosive charge before it is triggered because the tip of the projectile is unlikely to be a bar meets. The penetration capacity of the current projectiles with shaped charge remains as a result as good as perfect because these floors have very thin walls. Even if the bullet point is a cage bar in a smaller number of cases hits, the penetration capacity is also reduced due to the distance to the main armor. In addition, in these cases, the blasting beam is disturbed by the grate, which the beam in the Way comes.
Due to the property of completely or at least partially excluding the effect of the shaped charge, the screens according to the invention have a significant reinforcement of the armor protection, even when attached at a slightly shorter distance from the main armor.
Die Fig. 2 und 3 zeigen Beispiele von Querschnittsformen des Schirmes nachAs an example of the application of the invention, a side view of a combat vehicle is shown in FIG. its front armor with an attached screen 1 according to the invention for battle position is shown. The screen is suspended in two beams 2 attached along each side of the vehicle. Because the bars are mounted in rollers 3, the screen is optionally in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle can be moved, between the front position 1, which is especially for the Combat action is provided, and a withdrawn position 4, which is for the march and the rest Occasions where a protruding umbrella restricts the vehicle's freedom of movement would restrict. FIGS. 2 and 3 show examples of cross-sectional shapes of the screen according to FIG
/ Schnitt I-I in Fig. 1. In both examples, the dimension d is approximately the same as that of the caliber of the smallest projectiles against which the screen is supposed to protect. According to Fig. 2, the rods have a circular cross-section, which is advantageous from a manufacturing point of view. According to Fig. 3, the rods have an approximately triangular cross-section which is somewhat more expensive than the embodiment in Fig. 2, but larger
There are ways to detonate the projectiles damaging the screen from a direction approximately perpendicular to the plane of the screen meet according to Fig. 3, d. H. a direction from which the projectile has the greatest penetration effect.
The rods of the protective device according to the invention can be oriented in any direction be. There are so few connecting organs with which the bars are held together to form a grid will be available as far as possible so that these offer the smallest possible impact surface for the tips of the projectiles.
In addition to protecting against shaped charges, the invention is also used to protect against the explosive effect other types of projectiles applicable, e.g. B. tank cap projectiles and ordinary HE shells, because of the crepe point
