So ist in nahezu allen modernen Kraftfahrzeugen für den vorne sitzenden Beifahrer ein solches Airbagsystem in der Instrumententafel bzw. der Cockpitstruktur des Fahrzeugs vorgesehen. Im Kollisionsfall entfaltet das Airbagsystem einen Luftsack zwischen dem Fahrzeuginsassen und der Cockpitstruktur. Der Airbag nimmt den sich nach vorne verlagernden Körper des Fahrzeuginsassen federnd auf und stützt sich dabei selbst an der Cockpitstruktur und gegebenenfalls auch an der dahinter liegenden Windschutzscheibe ab.In a vehicle collision, the vehicle occupant is thrown forward due to the inertia of his body.
