Abstract

The invention relates to a tobacco filter cigarette and to a method of making such a filter cigarette.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

It has long been known that tobacco itself can also be used as a filter material for tobacco products. However, compared to other filter materials used, such as cellulose (paper) or cellulose acetate, the tobacco has a significantly lower retention power for condensate and nicotine at the same tensile resistance. Furthermore, it is not easy to achieve the tensile resistance that is customary with cellulose filters or cellulose acetate filters when using conventional tobacco blends as used for cigarettes, i.e. between 50 and 100 at a filter length of, for example, 21 mm. mm water column.

To overcome this disadvantage, various solutions have already been made, namely to produce part of the filter from coarse pipe tobacco. This, however, brings bad taste. On the one hand, it has been proposed to make an expanded tobacco filter section, which, however, provided little retention performance and thus insufficient filtration effect. Finally, very fine-cut tobacco has been proposed as a filter element; however, it cannot be processed on conventional machines and this would lead to high filter costs.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a tobacco filter for smoking articles which does not have the disadvantages mentioned in the prior art.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

To accomplish this, a tobacco filter cigarette having the following features: a tobacco rod surrounded by cigarette paper; wherein the tobacco strand blend comprises a proportion of 15 to 30% of cut medium coarse pipe tobacco; and tobacco smoke condensate recovery is between 15 and 19 mg of condensate at 63 mm length and 55 mm smoke length; with a filter made of aromatic tobacco with a tensile resistance between 50 and 100 mm water column over a length of 21 mm; and with a filter ventilation zone extending in the circumferential direction; wherein the degree of ventilation of the filter is 30 to 70%, and characterized in that the filter tobacco is manufactured without the use of medium coarse pipe tobacco and without reconstituted tobacco with a cut width of 0.3 to 0.6 mm; and that the filter has a tobacco ram density of 350 to 450 mg / cnA

The solution is therefore to use aromatic tobacco for the tobacco filter, since the taste of the smoke is strongly influenced by the filter material. It has been shown that, by special treatment of the selected tobacco, the taste-improving effect can be greatly enhanced. Heat treatment

The tobacco is brought to a tobacco temperature between 60 ° C and 150 ° C, preferably 80 ° C to 130 ° C, between 1 minute and a maximum of 15 minutes during the treatment process. During this time they are exposed to a relative humidity of 40 to 80%, preferably 50 to 70%. This leads to a significantly improved passage of flavor from the tobacco filter into the passing smoke.
