Abstract

The invention relates to a tobacco filter for smoking products in which the tobacco material selected for the filter or parts thereof are subjected to a thermal treatment during the tobacco preparation process.

Description

The invention relates to a filter cigarette with tobacco filters and a method for producing such a filter cigarette.

It has long been known that tobacco can also be used as a filter material for smoking articles. Compared to other traditional filter materials such as cellulose (paper) or cellulose acetate, however, at the same draft resistance, tobacco has a significantly lower retention performance for condensate and nicotine. Moreover, it is not easy, when using traditional tobacco mixtures, which are used for cigarettes, to achieve the draft resistance that is common with cellulose filters or filters of cellulose acetate, i.e. which lies at a filter length of, for example, 21 mm, between 50 and 100 mmWS.

In order to overcome this disadvantage, various solutions were already proposed, namely, on the one hand, to produce the filter part from ribbed tobacco. However, this leads to a much worse taste. On the other hand, it was proposed to produce the filter section from exposed tobacco which, however, only resulted in a very low retention performance and thus an insufficient filter effect. Finally, it was also proposed to use very finely cut tobacco as a filter element; however, this cannot be processed on traditional machines and would thus lead to higher filter costs.

The task according to the present invention therefore consists in providing a tobacco filter for smoking articles which does not have the disadvantages mentioned in the state of the art.

To solve this problem, a filter cigarette has been provided with a tobacco filter with a tobacco string surrounded by a cigarette paper; wherein the tobacco mixture of the tobacco string contains a proportion of 15 to 30% of cut midrib; and the smoke condensate yield of the tobacco string is between 15 and 19 mg of condensate at a string length of 63 mm and a smoking length of 55 mm; with a filter made of aromatic tobacco with a tensile strength between 50 and 100 mm WS at a length of 21 mm; and with an extent retnitfg ongoing filter ventilation zone; whereby the degree of filter ventilation is 30 to 70%, characterized in that the filter tobacco is produced without the use of the middle rib and without reconstituted tobacco with a cut width of 0.3 to 0.6 mm; and that the filter has a tobacco packing density of from 350 to 450 mg/cm<3>.

The solution thus consists in using aromatic tobacco for the tobacco filter, as the smoke flavor is strongly influenced by the filter material. It has been shown that it is possible to increase the beneficial taste-enhancing effect even more clearly by a special treatment of the selected tobacco. For this purpose, the selected tobacco material or parts thereof are subjected to a subsequently shown thermal treatment.

Thus, a method for the production of a filter cigarette according to the invention is also provided, characterized in that the tobacco used for the production of the tobacco filter is brought to a temperature between 60°C and 150°C, preferably 80°C to 130°C, during the tobacco processing process , for a time period of between 1 minute and a maximum of 20 minutes and that during this time it is exposed to relative humidity of between 40 and 80%, preferably 50 to 70%.

Termisk behandling: Thermal treatment:

During the tobacco treatment process, the tobacco is brought to a tobacco temperature between 60°C and 150°C, preferably 80°C to 130°C for a period of time between 1 minute and a maximum of 15 minutes. During this time it is exposed to a relative humidity of 40 to 80%, preferably to 50 to 70%. This leads to a significantly improved aroma transition from filter tobacco in the finished smoke. The effect can be deliberately influenced and increased by adding suitable Casing materials. When choosing a slightly finer cutting width of 0.3 to 0.6 mm, which can still be processed on standard machines (usual for string-cut tobacco is 0.7 to 1.0 mm), it is thus possible to achieve filter-typical tensile strength of 50 to 100 mm WS and the retention performance can be increased significantly. Such tensile strength is generally also referred to as "normal" or "ordinary" tensile strength. The still clearly lower retention performance in contrast to normal filter materials, achieves for the cellulose acetate approx. 30 to 60%, while tobacco oils have only about 25 to 35%, can be compensated for by using string mixtures with clearly reduced condensate potential. This means that tobacco strings are used which, when smoked with a smoking machine, give approx. 16 mg of condensate instead of the usual approx. 23 mg condensate. Although such mixtures, which can for example be produced with a high proportion of ribs, respectively inexpensive tobacco, are not particularly good in terms of taste, the smoke taste when passed through the tobacco filter surprisingly acquires a pleasant aroma.
