Abstract

Un proceso para la recuperación de níquel y/o cobalto a partir de laterita o minerales de laterita parcialmente oxidados que tengan una proporción substancial de su hierro presente en estado ferroso, incluyendo el mencionado proceso los pasos de:a) proporcionar una laterita o un mineral de laterita parcialmente oxidado en donde una proporción substancial del hierro presente en el mineral esté en estado ferroso;b) someter el mineral a lixiviación ácida para proporcionar un producto de solución de lixiviación contentivo de al menos hierro ferroso, níquel y/o cobalto junto con impurezas solubles en ácido; yc) recuperar el níquel y/o cobalto del producto de solución de lixiviación con una resina selectiva de intercambio iónico en un proceso de intercambio iónico que deje al hierro ferroso y a otras impurezas solubles en ácido en el refinado.
