Abstract

1.- Un proceso de lixiviación en pila para la recuperación del níquel y el cobalto de un mineral laterítico, dicho proceso incluye las etapas de lixiviar y/o aglomerar el mineral con un lixiviante que contiene iones ferrosos, en donde el Iixiviante es capaz de liberar el cobalto de los minerales que contienen cobalto en el mineral con preferencia al níquel, para producir una solución madre de lixiviación rica en cobalto relativamente libre de níquel.2.- Un proceso de acuerdo con la reivindicación 1, en donde el Iixiviante es un lixiviante ácido.3.- Un proceso de acuerdo con la reivindicación 1, endonde los iones ferrosos están presentes como sulfato ferroso.4.- Un proceso de acuerdo con la reivindicación 1, en donde la solución madre de lixiviación rica en cobalto contiene por lo menos cobalto y manganeso lixiviados.5.- Un proceso de acuerdo con la reivindicación 1, en donde el ácido se produce in situ a partir del ion ferrosos, para completar parte o todo el ácido requerido para liberar el cobalto de los minerales que contienen cobalto.
