背景技术
个人视频记录系统(PVR)和数字视频记录系统(DVR)使得用户可以向诸如硬盘驱动器的存储器记录节目。可以被存储的节目量特别依赖于1)硬盘驱动器的大小,2)所进行的记录的质量。在下述情况下会发生冲突:当多人家庭的一个成员通过记录节目或调度定时器以记录未来的节目而保留大量的这个存储空间的时候,为家庭的其他成员剩下不足的空间来记录或调度节目的记录。 
发明内容
本发明人认识到这样的冲突在有多个青少年的家庭中会变得更有问题。另外,上述的冲突对于多媒体系统也会发生,尤其是当多个多媒体应用可以共享同一存储器记录空间的时候。 
因此,本发明考虑了一种多媒体系统,它将存储器或存储空间划分为用于每个应用的专用应用分区,并且使得至少部分应用分区可以被细分为子分区,使每个子分区适合于分配给一个相应的用户。 
而且,本发明考虑了一种具有使用在屏用户界面的程序的系统,它使得PVR或DVR的记录存储空间的至少一部分可以被分区或划分为存储空间的离散分区,每个分区被分配或授权为由相应的用户或一种类型的应用来使用。在每个离散分区中的存储空间量由管理员或用户控制。

具体实施方式
将结合图1-6来说明本发明的方法,其中图1-6是在屏用户界面10、20、40、60、70和80(以下称为“OUI”),用于便于用户执行本发明的方法。以下将执行“设定程序”的用户称为“管理员”,以便消除与被分配了存储空间的一个分区的用户的任何混淆。

现在参见图5,分区保护OUI 60使得管理员或每个用户可以在为N个离散分区指定的N个密码数据输入域781、782、...、78N中输入个人密码。所述N个密码数据输入域781、782、...、78N的每一个具有与其相关联的标签或用户名,其中这样的标签或姓名是在分区命名OUI 40(图3)中输入的。在操作中,当进行记录请求时,应当由授权的用户输入密码以防止未经授权的用户访问被分配给另一个用户的存储空间的分区。这将保证每个用户仅仅访问他的或她的被分配的存储空间的分区,在设定期间,管理员可以为所指定的每一个用户输入一个密码,然后向适当的用户提供这样的密码。 
应当注意,“访问存储空间的分区”包括在存储空间的分区中记录(存储)和查看先前在存储空间的分区中存储的记录。 
所述N个密码数据输入域781、782、...、78N小分别具有N个密码验证数据输入域791、792、...、79N,用于重新输入密码以验证密码已经被正确地输 入。分区保护OUI 70还包括虚拟按钮“继续设定”按钮76a和“取消设定”按钮76b。“取消设定”按钮76b取消所述程序。“继续设定”按钮76a使得管理员继续到下一个OUI,即图6中的分区共享OUI 80。在所述示范实施例中,N个密码数据输入域781、782、...、78N不是必须要填写以便继续的,或换句话说,它们不是强制性的。因此,为了跳过输入密码的步骤,管理员只需要选择“继续设定”按钮76a来移动到下一个OUI,即分区共享OUI 80。 
在本发明的另一个方面,系统110可以实现为以致用户仅仅可以查看已经被记录到他或她的存储空间的节目。在另一个实施例中,用户能够进行选择,从而依赖于在例如每个用户的偏好简档的特定设置,在所述用户的存储空间上记录的程序可以被其他用户共享或不可以被其他用户共享。 
现在参见图6,示出了分区共享OUI 80。分区共享OUI 80包括被标注的N个离散分区的列表82,其中每个离散分区被标注了用户名,例如“Scott”、“Anthony”、“用户3”和“用户4”。每个分区标签具有排列在“是”栏84a和“否”栏84b中的、与其相关联的一对按钮。管理员利用是/否按钮选择来指示记录在分配给用户的特定分区中的节目是否将与其他用户共享。 
分区共享OUI 80还包括两个虚拟按钮“结束设定”按钮86a和“取消设定”按钮86b。“取消设定”按钮86b取消所述程序。“结束设定”按钮86a结束用于划分存储器或存储介质122的设定程序。 
现在说明本发明的系统110的记录操作。参见图7,示出了具有重叠的记录选择菜单94的电子节目指南(EPG)90。EPG 90包括时间调度行96,它显示1.5小时的时间段或窗口。在示范实施例中,时间窗口包括8PM窗口、8:30PM窗口和9PM窗口。EPG 90还包括频道识别栏98,用于顺序指示频道编号及它们各自的频道名称。EPG 90提供了多个标题单元100,其中每个单元具有与其相关联的节目名称,用于识别被映射到如由时间调度行96指示的对应时间和如由频道识别栏98指示的对应频道的预定节目。在加亮标题单元100之一的时候,节目信息104被显示在显示屏幕92的顶部。显示屏幕92还包括子窗口108,用于逐个画面的显示。 
在所述示范实施例中,加亮具有节目名称“3rdRock From...”的标题单元。当加亮所述标题单元时,显示与“3rdRock From...”相关联的节目信息104,并且其包括频道名称、频道编号、日期、时间等。当用户选择记录被加亮的题目单元的节目时,记录选择菜单94重叠在EPG 90上,并且显示被标 注或命名的离散分区的列表94a。在优选实施例中,记录选择菜单94还显示要被记录的节目名称。 
为了记录,用户选择EPG 90的被加亮节目单元。其后,记录选择菜单94重叠在EPG 90上,并且示出了在“向Scott记录”上的主要加亮。加亮菜单94的一个单元识别了所选择的一个分区名称或标签。因此,所记录的节目将被记录在所选择的分区的存储区域中。 
如在设定程序中所设立的那样,所述离散分区被命名为“Scott”、“Anthony”、“用户3”和“用户4”。在加亮在列表94a中列出的一个离散分区时,将要记录的所选择的预定节目被记录在从列表94a选择的分配分区中。 
在优选实施例中,一旦用户选择了一个分区以向其记录节目,则在EPG90上出现密码输入屏幕或窗口(未示出),以使得用户可以输入用于所选择的分区的密码——如果需要的话。 
当用户决定要观看先前已经被记录的某个内容时,一般存在列出所记录的事件的一个PVR或DVR菜单系统。在示范实施例中,在显示所记录的节目的PVR或DVR菜单系统之前,将显示简档/分区的一个列表以供用户选择。如果管理员已经指示所选择的分区不与其他用户共享所记录的事件,则将呈现密码数据输入屏幕或窗口,以向指定的分区输入密码。或者,在初始屏幕上不显示未设定为共享的用户。 
现在参见图8,示出了用于执行本发明的视频记录系统110的一般示意方框图。视频记录系统110包括接收器112,它被适配用来从模拟或数字源接收调度节目信息,以识别预定节目的时间和频道号。接收器112耦接到MPEG编码器114,用于编码在接收器112处的所接收的信号输出。MPEG编码器114耦接到存储器控制器116。存储器控制器116耦接到MPEG解码器118。MPEG解码器118耦接到显示编码器120,它将信号发送给显示设备(未示出),诸如电视机。 
在屏用户界面10、20、40、60、70和80(图1-6)由系统110建立,并且在显示器上显示。而且,系统110包括CPU 124。存储器控制器116也耦接到用于存储所记录的预定节目的存储器或存储介质122。所述存储器或存储介质122可以是硬盘驱动器或其他的存储介质。如所公知的,系统110要求一定量的存储器来以上述的方式处理、格式化和作用。存储器或存储介质122一般包括两种存储器,1)用于系统操作的和2)专用节目记录存储。被分区和 细分的是节目记录存储。因此,100%的节目记录存储可以被分区和细分。 
现在参见图9,示出了本发明的示意多媒体系统200。多媒体系统200支持多种应用/设备,诸如TV 202、MP3音乐204、视频游戏206、数字静止图像208和数据210。多媒体系统200具有中央处理单元(CPU)212,可分区硬盘驱动器存储器216和存储器控制器214。CPU 202与所述硬盘驱动器存储器216合作运行,以选择性地执行各种多媒体应用。多媒体系统200被设计为一次至少执行一个多媒体应用。因此,至少可以同时操作两个多媒体应用。诸如可记录的电视机(TV)、MP3音乐204、视频游戏206、数字静止图像208和数据210可以是单独的设备,它们驻留在家中或建筑物中的不同位置或在同一房间中作为娱乐系统。应当注意,多媒体系统200可以包括:机顶单元218,它包括CPU 212、存储器控制器214、可划分硬盘驱动器存储器216和各种端口、插座或驱动器,用于连接到电缆或卫星电视服务、MP3播放机、视频游戏设备、数字照相机和/或数字存储卡、视频摄像机和计算机。 
为了防止一个应用/设备和用户要求或扰乱硬盘驱动器存储器216的可用容量,将硬盘驱动器存储器216适配为划分成多个专用的应用存储器分区222、224、226、228和230。但是,可以根据特定应用的消耗量和剩余的存储量来经常地重新配置分区222、224、226、228和230。在所述示范实施例中,分区222是电视机记录应用分区;分区224是MP3音乐应用分区;分区226是视频游戏应用分区;分区228是数字图像应用分区;分区230是数据应用分区。 
也参见图10,示出了存储器管理OUI 240。因为可以用多种方式来配置存储器216,因此描述每种配置是难于作到的。因此,下面的说明仅仅用于示范的目的。可分区的硬盘驱动器存储器216是例如60G字节的。所述专用应用分区由分区列表242中的应用来标注。每个分区标签具有与其相关联的存储器分配数据输入域244。用于输入存储器的百分比。开始,系统200可以自动向每个专用应用分区222、224、226、228和230分配默认的百分比。 
例如对于N个用户,将“其他数据”应用分区230细分为N个子分区232、234、236和238。在所述示范实施例中,子分区232、234、236和238的默认百分比是4%。如图所示,为“其他数据”应用分区230分配了16%。可以通过选择相关联的虚拟加或减图标246来改变应用分区230的百分比。选择所述加减图标对的加图标增大在数据输入域244中的百分比。另一方面,选 择所述加减图标对246的减图标减小数据输入域244中的数量。或者,管理员也可用使用在遥控器上的数字按键来输入百分比值。 
在所述示范实施例中,子分区232、234、236和238的默认百分比是“其他数据”应用分区230的默认百分比的大约1/N。因此,调整“其他数据”应用分区230的百分比分配将调整子分区的百分比。 
与在分配栏中的每个百分比分配数据输入域244相关联,存在一个已使用的百分比栏,用于识别在每个专用应用分区222、224、226、228和230以及子分区232、234、236和238中使用的存储量。如图所示,已使用域250具有两个位置来用于两个数字。 
在示范实施例中,存储器216如下分区:70%专用于TV视频记录应用分区222;10%专用于视频游戏应用分区226;2%专用于MP3音乐应用分区224;2%专用于数字图像应用分区228;16%专用于“其他数据”应用分区230。在所述“其他数据”应用分区230中,子分区是密码保护的,并且按照上面参照图1-6描述的实施例来标注。因此,“Scott”子分区具有4%的存储器;“Anthony”子分区具有4%的存储器;“用户3”子分区具有4%的存储器;“用户4”子分区具有4%的存储器。在这个实施例中,子分区232、234、236、238和240可以用于在密码保护的存储器空间中存储音乐、静止图像、视频游戏、数据以及被记录的视频。 
分区保护OUI 60(图5)可以用于密码保护子分区232、234、236、238和240以进行保密。而且,上面参照图1-6所描述的设定程序可以用于设立子分区。 
在图10中的存储器管理OUI 240显示如何划分和利用存储器。存储器分区的管理包括删除最老的记录以创建用于最近记录的存储器空间。对于诸如MP3音乐和静止图像的其他区域,存储器管理将允许手动删除和归档独立的文件以便为较高优先级的信息腾出空间。存储器管理用于当增加新应用或新用户时迅速修改存储器分配。 
在设定期间。指示管理员如何最佳地为每个应用划分存储器。例如,通常需要超过10倍的存储量来记录TV视频,因为视频一般消耗更多的存储量。因此,多媒体系统200将自动向每个应用分区分配默认存储量。 
现在参见图11,其中示出了存储器管理OUI 260的一个替代实施例。在此,用户可以按优先级的顺序在排序数据输入字段270中对应用进行排序。 在示范实施例中,排序范围可以是1-10,其中10是最常使用的应用,1是最不常使用的应用。因此,基于所述排序,对于被排序为较高优先级的那些,可以增大用于特定应用分区的默认存储器分配,对于被排序为较低优先级的那些,可以减小用于特定应用分区的默认存储器分配。 
在替代实施例中,多媒体系统200监控应用的活动或使用。根据所监控的活动或使用,所述多媒体系统200逐渐向最常使用的那些应用分区分配更多的存储器。 
虽然示范实施例描述了由TV、MP3播放机、视频游戏设备等组成的设备,但是本发明可以适用于其他联网的设备。因此,联网设备可以连接到机顶单元218,其中机顶单元218管理经过多个联网设备的存储,以便共享整个存储容量。例如,机顶单元218可以被集成到网络服务器中或与网络服务器集成。因此,经常被使用的设备可以比较少被使用的器件分配到更多的存储器。 
而且,每个联网设备可以支持多个应用,并且通过应用来划分存储器。 
根据上述的说明,本发明的多种修改和替代实施例对于本领域内的技术人员是显然的。因此,本说明书将被解释为仅仅是说明性的,并且目的在于向本领域内的技术人员教授执行本发明的最佳方式。在不脱离本发明的精神的情况下可以实质地改变结构的细节,并且保留在所附的权利要求范围内的、所有修改的专用性。 

Claims (6)

1.一种记录系统,包括:
存储空间;和
耦合至存储空间用于控制该存储空间的控制器,其中该控制器将所述存储空间划分为包括数据分区的至少三个离散分区,除了所述数据分区之外的每个所述离散分区专用于为不同类型的应用记录数据,并且每个离散分区的相对大小可由用户以百分比增量来调节,以使得在调节期间,向用户显示用于每个离散分区的特定数字百分比值。
2.如权利要求1所述的记录系统,其中所述数据分区被细分为多个子分区,每个所述子分区被分配给不同的用户,并且子分区的相对大小可由用户以百分比增量来调节。
3.如权利要求1所述的记录系统,其中所述控制器监视每个离散分区的使用,并且向最常使用的那些离散分区分配更多的存储空间。
4.一种通过记录系统记录多媒体内容的方法,所述多媒体内容记录系统包含存储空间,所述方法包括步骤:
通过记录系统将所述存储空间划分成包括数据分区的至少三个离散分区;
通过记录系统向每个离散分区分配存储空间量;和
将多媒体内容记录至离散分区,其中除了所述数据分区之外的每个所述离散分区记录不同类型的多媒体应用,并且每个离散分区的相对大小可由用户以百分比增量来调节,以使得在调节期间,向用户显示用于每个离散分区的特定数字百分比值。
5.如权利要求4所述的方法,还包括步骤:
通过记录系统将所述数据分区细分为多个子分区,每个子分区被分配给不同的用户;
通过记录系统向每个子分区分配存储空间量;
通过记录系统接收选择子分区中的一个的用户输入;并且
将输入信号记录到所选择的子分区中。
6.如权利要求4所述的方法,还包括步骤:通过记录系统监视每个离散分区的使用,并且向最常使用的那些离散分区分配更多的存储空间。
