近年来,采用了有机发光二极管(OLED)作为显示元件的显示装置被实用化。显示元件在像素电极与共用电极之间具备有机层。有机层除了发光层以外还包括空穴传输层、电子传输层等功能层。
一方面,采用了有机发光二极管的显示装置的实用化得到进展,另一方面在这样的显示装置中存在高精细化困难的问题。
发明内容
本发明的目的之一在于,提供能够实现高精细化的显示装置。
一实施方式的显示装置,具备:基材、在上述基材之上以矩阵状排列的多个像素、与上述各像素连接的供电线及与上述供电线连接的供电线驱动电路。上述各像素具备:配置在上述基材之上的像素电路、和显示元件,该显示元件具有:与上述像素电路连接的下部电极、与上述下部电极对置配置的上部电极、配置在上述下部电极与上述上部电极之间且包含发光层的有机层。上述上部电极与对该上部电极提供规定的电位的上述供电线连接。上述供电线驱动电路在上述发光层发光的发光期间,将对上述上部电极提供第1电位的第1信号向上述供电线供给,在上述发光层不发光的非发光期间,将对上述上部电极提供与上述第1电位不同的第2电位的第2信号向上述供电线供给。

关于一些实施方式,一边参照附图一边进行说明。
另外,公开只不过是一例,关于本领域技术人员在保持发明的主旨的情况下适当变更而能够容易地想到的结构,也当然包含在本发明的范围中。并且,附图为了使说明变得更明确,有与实际的形态相比而示意地表示的情况,但是,只不过是一例,不限定本发明的解释。此外,在本说明书和各图中,有时对与关于已出现的图在之前叙述过的构成要素发挥相同或类似的功能的构成要素标注相同的附图标记而将重复的详细的说明省略。
另外,在附图中,根据需要为了使理解容易而记载相互正交的X轴、Y轴以及Z轴。将沿着X轴的方向称为X方向或第1方向,将沿着Y轴的方向称为Y方向或第2方向,将沿着Z轴的方向称为Z方向或第3方向。将由X轴以及Y轴规定的面称为X-Y平面,将由X轴以及Z轴规定的面称为X-Z平面。将观察X-Y平面称为俯视。
一些实施方式的显示装置DSP是具备有机发光二极管(OLED)作为显示元件的有机电致发光显示装置,搭载于电视机、电脑、便携式终端、手机等。另外,以下说明的显示元件能够应用于照明装置的发光元件,显示装置DSP能够转用于照明装置等的其他的电子设备。
图1是表示本实施方式的显示装置DSP的一构成例的图。显示装置DSP在绝缘性的基材10之上具备显示图像的显示部DA。基材10可以是玻璃也可以是具有可挠性的树脂薄膜。
显示部DA具备在第1方向X以及第2方向Y上以矩阵状排列的多个像素PX。像素PX具备多个副像素SP1、SP2、SP3。在一例中,像素PX具备红色的副像素SP1(第1副像素)、绿色的副像素SP2(第2副像素)以及蓝色的副像素SP3(第3副像素)。另外,像素PX也可以具备除了上述的3色的副像素以外还加上白色等其他颜色的副像素而成的4个以上的副像素。
关于像素PX中包含的1个副像素SP的一构成例简单地进行说明。
副像素SP具备像素电路1和由像素电路1驱动控制的显示元件20。像素电路1具备像素选择开关SST、驱动晶体管DRT、输出开关BCT和电容器Cs。像素选择开关SST、驱动晶体管DRT以及输出开关BCT是由例如薄膜晶体管(TFT)构成的开关元件,分别具有栅极电极、源极电极、漏极电极。
关于像素选择开关SST,其栅极电极与扫描线GL连接,源极电极与信号线SL连接,漏极电极与节点N1连接。节点N1与像素选择开关SST的漏极电极、驱动晶体管DRT的栅极电极和构成电容器Cs的一个电极连接。像素选择开关SST若响应于从扫描线GL供给的扫描信号而接通,则获取从信号线SL供给的影像信号。
关于驱动晶体管DRT,其栅极电极与节点N1连接,源极电极与输出开关BCT的漏极电极连接,漏极电极与节点N2连接。节点N2与驱动晶体管DRT的漏极电极、构成电容器Cs的另一个电极、显示元件20的阳极连接。驱动晶体管DRT将与上述的影像信号相应的电流量的驱动电流输出到显示元件20。
关于输出开关BCT,其栅极电极与输出控制信号线L1连接,源极电极与电源线PL连接,漏极电极与驱动晶体管DRT的源极电极连接。输出开关BCT是用于控制显示元件20所发光的发光期间的开关。
显示元件20的阴极与供电线FL连接。另外,像素电路1的构成不限于图示的例子。
显示元件20是作为发光元件的有机发光二极管(OLED)。例如,副像素SP1具备出射与红波长对应的光的显示元件,副像素SP2具备出射与绿波长对应的光的显示元件,副像素SP3具备出射与蓝波长对应的光的显示元件。像素PX通过具备显示色不同的多个副像素SP1、SP2、SP3,能够实现多色显示。
但是,也可以构成为,副像素SP1、SP2、SP3各自的显示元件20出射相同颜色的光。由此,能够实现单色显示。
并且,在构成为副像素SP1、SP2、SP3各自的显示元件20出射白色光的情况下,也可以配置与显示元件20对置的滤色器。例如,副像素SP1具备与显示元件20对置的红色滤色器,副像素SP2具备与显示元件20对置的绿色滤色器,副像素SP3具备与显示元件20对置的蓝色滤色器。由此,能够实现多色显示。
或者,在构成为副像素SP1、SP2、SP3各自的显示元件20出射紫外光的情况下,通过配置与显示元件20对置的光转换层,由此能够实现多色显示。
图2是表示图1所示的副像素SP(显示元件20)的构成例的剖面图。
图1所示的像素电路1被配置于基材10之上,由绝缘层11覆盖。图2中,仅简化图示出像素电路1中包含的驱动晶体管DRT。绝缘层11相当于显示元件20的基底层,由例如聚酰亚胺、丙烯酸树脂、硅氮化物(SiN)、硅氧化物(SiO)等绝缘材料形成。
显示元件20具备下部电极E1、有机层OR和上部电极E2。有机层OR被夹在下部电极E1与上部电极E2之间而配置。
下部电极E1是按照每个副像素或每个显示元件而被配置的电极,与驱动晶体管DRT电连接。这样的下部电极E1有被称为像素电极、反射电极、阳极等的情况。
上部电极E2是按照每个像素行而被配置的电极。即,上部电极E2是遍及在第1方向X上邻接的多个像素PX而被配置的电极。在图2中,假想了配置在图中左侧的像素PX与配置在图中右侧的像素PX为在不同的像素行配置的像素的情况。因此,在这些像素PX之间上部电极E2被断开,在这些像素PX之间存在没有上部电极E2的规定的空间。这样的上部电极E2有被称为共用电极、对置电极、阴极等的情况。
上部电极E2与供电线FL连接。供电线FL是用于对上部电极E2提供规定的电位的布线。更具体来说,供电线FL是供给用于使上部电极E2的电位成为公共电位(第1电位)或者成为与公共电位不同的复位电位(第2电位)的信号的布线。另外,供电线FL被配置在邻接的2个有机层OR之间,还具有将这些有机层OR划分的作用。
下部电极E1被配置在绝缘层11之上,经由形成于绝缘层11的开口部OP1而与驱动晶体管DRT连接。开口部OP1是形成于与驱动晶体管DRT重叠的区域并将绝缘层11贯通直到驱动晶体管DRT为止的贯通孔。
下部电极E1是由例如铟锡氧化物(ITO)、铟锌氧化物(IZO)等透明导电材料形成的透明电极。另外,下部电极E1也可以是由银(Ag)、铝(Al)、钛(Ti)、钼(Mo)、钨(W)等金属材料形成的金属电极。并且,下部电极E1也可以是透明电极以及金属电极的层叠体。例如,下部电极E1也可以构成为将透明电极、金属电极以及透明电极依次层叠而成的层叠体,也可以构成为3层以上的层叠体。
绝缘层12以覆盖下部电极E1的方式设置在绝缘层11之上。绝缘层12具有开口部OP2,在该开口部OP2中下部电极E1的一部分被露出。
有机层OR经由开口部OP2而与下部电极E1连接。本实施方式中,有机层OR包含以红色、绿色、蓝色中的任意颜色发光的发光层。有机层OR除了发光层以外,也可以包含空穴注入层、空穴传输层、电子阻挡层、空穴阻挡层、电子传输层、电子注入层等功能层。因此,在图2中将有机层OR图示为单层体,但是有机层OR也可以是将除了发光层以外还包含上述的功能层中的至少一个在内的多个层层叠而成的层叠体。
在绝缘层12之上配置有供电线FL。
在图2中例示出供电线FL被配置在某像素PX中包含的副像素SP1的有机层OR与邻接于该副像素SP1的副像素SP2的有机层OR之间、并将这2个有机层OR划分的情况。并且,在图2中例示出供电线FL也被配置在某像素PX与邻接于该像素PX的别的像素PX(与某像素PX不同的像素行的像素PX)之间、并将某像素PX中包含的有机层OR(某像素PX的副像素SP2中包含的有机层OR)和邻接的别的像素PX中包含的有机层OR(邻接的别的像素PX的副像素SP1中包含的有机层OR)划分的情况。由此,各像素PX以及各像素PX中包含的副像素SP1、SP2、SP3被供电线FL划分。
供电线FL由例如银(Ag)、铝(Al)、钛(Ti)、钼(Mo)、钨(W)等低电阻的金属材料形成。供电线FL可以是由上述的金属材料中的1个金属材料形成的单层体,也可以是由上述的金属材料中的多个金属材料层叠而成的层叠体。
上部电极E2是遍及在第1方向X上邻接的多个像素PX而配置的共用层,上部电极E2将各像素PX中包含的绝缘层12以及有机层OR覆盖并与供电线FL连接。
上部电极E2是由例如ITO、IZO等透明导电材料形成的透明电极。另外,上部电极E2可以是由镁(Mg)、银(Ag)、铝(Al)等金属材料形成的半透射性的金属电极。
在下部电极E1的电位比上部电极E2的电位相对高的情况下,下部电极E1相当于阳极,上部电极E2相当于阴极。并且,在上部电极E2的电位比下部电极E1的电位相对高的情况下,上部电极E2相当于阳极,下部电极E1相当于阴极。
本实施方式中,作为一例,假想了下部电极E1相当于阳极、上部电极E2相当于阴极的情况。
根据图2所示的构成,在配置在被配置于开口部OP2的下部电极E1与作为共用层而被配置的上部电极E2之间的有机层OR所处于的部分,能够形成显示元件20的发光区域,。但是,对于有机层OR中的在开口部OP2的斜面和绝缘层12的上表面所配置的部分,由于绝缘层12介于下部电极E1与上部电极E2之间,因此几乎不发光。
图3是表示像素PX中包含的副像素SP1、SP2、SP3、供电线FL和与供电线FL连接的供电线驱动电路FD的俯视图。
1个像素PX中包含的副像素SP1、SP2、SP3在显示部DA中形成为分别沿第2方向Y延伸的大致长方形状。具备出射与红波长对应的光的显示元件的副像素SP1和具备出射与绿波长对应的光的显示元件的副像素SP2在第2方向Y上邻接地排列。并且,副像素SP1、SP2和具备出射与蓝波长对应的光的显示元件的副像素SP3在第1方向X上邻接地排列。副像素SP1、SP2的大小(X-Y平面中的面积)形成得比副像素SP3小。
图3中例示出副像素SP1、SP2、SP3以pentile方式排列的情况,但副像素SP1、SP2、SP3的排列方式不限定于此,副像素SP1、SP2、SP3也可以例如以条纹方式排列。
供电线FL按照每个像素行被配置。各供电线FL分别供给用于使所连接的上部电极E2的电位成为公共电位或复位电位的信号。各供电线FL将各像素PX以及各像素PX中包含的副像素SP1、SP2、SP3划分。
这里,详细说明供电线FL的形状。如图3所示,各供电线FL具有第1部分FL1、第2部分FL2和第3部分FL3。第1部分FL1是被配置在邻接的2个像素行之间、沿第1方向X延伸的部分。第2部分FL2是被配置在沿第1方向X排列的各像素PX之间且被配置在各像素PX中包含的副像素SP1、SP2与副像素SP3之间、从第1部分FL1分支而沿第2方向Y延伸的部分。第3部分FL3是以将2个第2部分FL2连接的方式沿第1方向X延伸的部分。各供电线FL通过具有上述的形状,将各像素PX以及各像素PX中包含的副像素SP1、SP2、SP3划分。
各供电线FL的两端分别被连接于第1供电线驱动电路FD1以及第2供电线驱动电路FD2。图3中例示出各供电线FL的两端分别被连接于第1供电线驱动电路FD1以及第2供电线驱动电路FD2的情况,但不限定于此,各供电线FL只要至少一端被连接于第1供电线驱动电路FD1以及第2供电线驱动电路FD2的一方即可。
第1供电线驱动电路FD1以及第2供电线驱动电路FD2将用于使上部电极E2的电位成为公共电位或复位电位的信号以分时的方式向各供电线FL依次供给。第1供电线驱动电路FD1以及第2供电线驱动电路FD2分别具有切换电路SW。切换电路SW是用于切换由第1供电线驱动电路FD1以及第2供电线驱动电路FD2将用于使上部电极E2的电位成为公共电位的信号(第1信号)向供电线FL供给、还是将用于使上部电极E2的电位成为复位电位的信号(第2信号)向供电线FL供给(更详细来说,是经由上部电极E2而将用于使图1所示的节点N2的电位成为复位电位的信号向供电线FL供给)的电路。
在使副像素SP1、SP2、SP3的有机层OR(发光层)发光的发光期间中,切换电路SW以依次向各供电线FL供给用于使各上部电极E2的电位成为公共电位的信号的方式控制第1供电线驱动电路FD1以及第2供电线驱动电路FD2的动作。另一方面,在从上述的发光期间到下一发光期间为止的期间(即,非发光期间)中,切换电路SW以依次向各供电线FL供给用于使各上部电极E2的电位(节点N2的电位)成为复位电位的信号的方式控制第1供电线驱动电路FD1以及第2供电线驱动电路FD2的动作。在非发光期间,节点N2的电位经由上部电极E2以及下部电极E1而被设定为复位电位,从而能够插入黑画面。由此,能够将上次的发光期间中的影响复位,能够使显示品质提高。
这里使用图4所示的比较例来说明本实施方式的效果。另外,比较例用于说明本实施方式能够发挥的效果的一部分,不是将比较例和本实施方式所共同的效果从本申请发明的范围除外。
图4是表示比较例的副像素SP’的一构成例的等价电路图。如图4所示,副像素SP’具备像素电路1’和显示元件20。像素电路1’具备像素选择开关SST、驱动晶体管DRT、输出开关BCT、电容器Cs和复位开关RST。像素选择开关SST、驱动晶体管DRT、输出开关BCT以及复位开关RST是由例如薄膜晶体管(TFT)构成的开关元件,分别具有栅极电极、源极电极、漏极电极。
比较例的副像素SP’在像素电路1’具备复位开关RST这一点上,与本实施方式的副像素SP不同。
关于复位开关RST,其栅极电极与复位控制信号线L2连接,源极电极与复位电源线RL连接,漏极电极与节点N2连接。复位开关RST若响应于从复位控制信号线L2供给的控制信号而接通,则将节点N2的电位设定并复位为由复位电源线RL提供的复位电位。
在比较例的构成中,如图4所示,作为对节点N2的电位进行复位的构成,复位开关RST按照每个副像素SP’而被配置。并且,在比较例的构成中,用于控制复位开关RST的接通/断开的复位控制信号线L2按照每个像素行而被配置。进而,在比较例的构成中,为了对节点N2的电位进行复位,配置有复位电源线RL。这些要素如上述那样按照每个副像素SP’或每个像素行而被设置,因此显示装置的高精细化越进展则越增加其数量,可以考虑能够以某数量为边界而在配置的空间的关系上不能再进行配置。因此,在比较例的构成中,有显示装置的高精细化困难的问题。
对此,在本实施方式的显示装置DSP中,通过使供电线FL作为比较例中的复位电源线RL发挥功能,能够省略复位电源线RL的配置。这可以通过设置切换电路SW来实现,该切换电路SW能够切换第1供电线驱动电路FD1以及第2供电线驱动电路FD2的动作,以使在发光期间中,将用于使上部电极E2的电位成为公共电位的信号向供电线FL供给,在非发光期间中,将用于经由上部电极E2以及下部电极E1而使节点N2的电位成为复位电位的信号向供电线FL供给。
并且,在本实施方式的显示装置DSP中,由于按照每个像素行而配置上部电极E2以及供电线FL,因此即使不配置比较例中的复位开关RST、复位控制信号线L2,也能够按照每个像素行而依次供给复位电位。例如,在上部电极E2不是按照每个像素行配置而是遍及全部的像素PX(副像素SP)而配置的状态下,在使供电线FL作为复位电源线RL发挥功能的情况下,全部的像素PX一起被黑显示,担心导致对比度降低等显示品质降低。但是,在本实施方式的构成中,由于按照每个像素行而配置上部电极E2以及供电线FL,因此能够不引起这样的显示品质降低地省略比较例中的复位开关RST、复位控制信号线L2的配置。
如以上说明那样,本实施方式的显示装置DSP具备的副像素SP具备图5所示的构成,因此与图4所示的比较例的构成相比,能够省略复位电源线RL、复位开关RST、复位控制信号线L2的配置。由此,与不配置复位电源线RL、复位开关RST、复位控制信号线L2的量对应地,能够空出配置其他的布线的空间,能够实现显示装置DSP的高精细化。
另外,如图2所示,供电线FL被配置在与有机层OR同一层。通常来说,上述的复位电源线RL及复位开关RST、复位控制信号线L2、进而扫描线GL、信号线SL等的各种布线及各种开关元件被称为布线层,大多被配置在配置有驱动晶体管DRT(像素电路1)等的层中。对此,在本实施方式中,供电线FL不配置在上述的布线层而是配置在与有机层OR同一层,因此在这一点上也能够空出配置其他布线的空间,能够实现显示装置DSP的高精细化。
并且,在本实施方式中,由于设为由低电阻的金属材料形成的供电线FL被按照每个像素行配置并与同样按照每个像素行配置的各上部电极E2连接的构成,因此能够谋求各上部电极E2的低电阻化。
进而,在本实施方式中,供电线FL由于具有图3所示的形状,因此能够还发挥将各像素PX以及各像素PX中包含的副像素SP1、SP2、SP3划分的作用。
另外,在本实施方式中,如图3所示,示出了上部电极E2以及供电线FL按照每个像素行而被配置的构成,但不限定于此,也可以例如如图6所示,将上部电极E2以及供电线FL按照每个像素列来配置。以下,对上部电极E2以及供电线FL按照每个像素列而被配置的情况的供电线FL的形状进行说明。
如图6所示,按照每个像素列而被配置的各供电线FL具有第1部分FL11、第2部分FL12、第3部分FL13、第4部分FL14。第1部分FL11是被配置在邻接的2个像素列之间且沿第2方向Y延伸的部分。第2部分FL12是被配置于在第2方向Y上排列的各像素PX之间且从第1部分FL11分支而沿第1方向X延伸的部分。第3部分FL13是被配置在各像素PX中包含的副像素SP1、SP2与副像素SP3之间且从第2部分FL12分支而沿第2方向Y延伸的部分。第4部分FL14是被配置在各像素PX中包含的副像素SP1与副像素SP2之间且从第3部分FL13分支而沿第1方向X延伸的部分。各供电线FL通过具有上述的形状,即使是按照每个像素列而被配置的情况,也能够将各像素PX以及各像素PX中包含的副像素SP1、SP2、SP3划分。
如图6所示,各供电线FL的一端与供电线驱动电路FD连接。另外,供电线驱动电路FD的构成和功能与图3所示的第1供电线驱动电路FD1以及第2供电线驱动电路FD2相同,因此这里省略其详细说明。
即使是图6所示的构成,也与图3所示的构成同样,在上部电极E2被断开配置、并配置分别与各上部电极E2连接的多个供电线FL、且具有切换电路SW这一点上没有变化,因此能够得到与图3所示的构成相同的效果。该切换电路SW能够切换由供电线驱动电路FD将用于使上部电极E2的电位成为公共电位的信号向供电线FL供给、还是将用于使节点N2的电位成为复位电位的信号向供电线FL供给。即,能够省略图4的比较例中的复位电源线RL、复位开关RST、复位控制信号线L2的配置,进而实现显示装置DSP的高精细化。
根据以上说明的一实施方式,能够将供电线FL作为供给用于使上部电极E2的电位成为公共电位的信号的布线,并且兼作为供给用于使上部电极E2的电位成为复位电位的信号的布线,由于能够将与在非发光期间插入黑画面的复位相关联的构成的配置省略,因此能够实现显示装置的高精细化。
说明了本发明的几个实施方式,但这些实施方式是作为例子而提示的,并不意图限定发明的范围。这些新的实施方式能够以其他各种方式实施,在不脱离发明的主旨的范围内,能够进行各种省略、置换、变更。这些实施方式及其变形包含在发明的范围或主旨内,并且包含在权利要求书所记载的发明及其均等的范围内。

Claims (9)

1.一种显示装置,具备:
基材;
多个像素,在上述基材之上以矩阵状排列;
供电线,与上述各像素连接;以及
供电线驱动电路,与上述供电线连接,
上述各像素具备:
像素电路,配置在上述基材之上;以及
显示元件,该显示元件具有与上述像素电路连接的下部电极、与上述下部电极对置配置的上部电极以及配置在上述下部电极与上述上部电极之间且包含发光层的有机层,
上述上部电极与对该上部电极提供规定的电位的上述供电线连接,
上述供电线驱动电路,在上述发光层发光的发光期间,将对上述上部电极提供第1电位的第1信号向上述供电线供给,在上述发光层不发光的非发光期间,将对上述上部电极提供与上述第1电位不同的第2电位的第2信号向上述供电线供给。
2.如权利要求1所述的显示装置,
上述非发光期间是从某一发光期间到下一发光期间之间的期间。
3.如权利要求1所述的显示装置,
上述第1电位是用于使上述发光层发光的公共电位,
上述第2电位是用于将在上述发光期间被提供的上述公共电位复位的复位电位。
4.如权利要求1所述的显示装置,
上述各像素基于被供给到上述供电线的上述第2信号,在上述非发光期间显示黑画面。
5.如权利要求1所述的显示装置,
上述上部电极以及上述供电线按照每个像素行而被配置,
上述供电线驱动电路在上述发光期间将上述第1信号以分时的方式依次向上述各供电线供给,在上述非发光期间将上述第2信号以分时的方式依次向上述各供电线供给。
6.如权利要求1所述的显示装置,
上述上部电极以及上述供电线按照每个像素列而被配置,
上述供电线驱动电路,在上述发光期间将上述第1信号以分时的方式依次向上述各供电线供给,在上述非发光期间将上述第2信号以分时的方式依次向上述各供电线供给。
7.如权利要求1所述的显示装置,
上述各像素包含出射红色光的第1副像素、出射绿色光的第2副像素、出射蓝色光的第3副像素,
上述供电线被配置为将上述各像素、上述各像素中包含的上述第1副像素、上述第2副像素以及上述第3副像素划分。
8.如权利要求1所述的显示装置,
上述供电线被配置在与上述有机层同一层,并被配置在与配置有上述像素电路的层不同的层。
9.如权利要求1所述的显示装置,
上述供电线由低电阻的金属材料形成。
