Description

Cat urine pH indicating material, pH indicating cat litter and preparation method thereof
Technical Field
The invention relates to a pH indicating material and pH indicating cat litter capable of indicating whether the urine pH value of a mammal pet (especially a cat) is within a normal range and a preparation method thereof.
Background
According to the research of animal research institutions at home and abroad, the lower urinary tract diseases of the kitten are the first high-incidence diseases of the kitten in the last decade. Thus, lower urinary tract health is one of the topics closely related to the quality of life of cats. The pH value of urine directly influences the health of the cat, normal urine is weakly acidic, and the pH value is 6.0-6.5. Urine pH of many diseased cats shifts away from the normal range toward acidic or basic. A common cause of abnormal urine pH is feline lower urinary tract disease or feline urinary system syndrome. Urine with a higher pH is prone to magnesium crystal formation, and urine with a lower pH is prone to calcium crystal formation. Therefore, the health status of the cat can be predicted by examining the pH of the cat's urine to allow the pet owner to make an early prediction of certain diseases in the cat.
US6162646 provides a base cat litter material (such as bentonite) to which is added a pH indicator material based on a polymeric foam (particularly polyurethane) to detect acidic or basic cat urine for the purpose of preventing lower urinary tract disease in cats. EP0569232 discloses a cat litter with pH indicating function, which comprises bentonite material and pH indicating material prepared by adding non-water-absorbing calcium carbonate marble piece, granite piece or non-water-soluble polymer material (such as highly cross-linked sodium polyacrylate) as base material into bentonite material, and bonding dye for pH indication with matrix material by water-soluble polymer. Of such indicator materials, the patent specifically teaches that the base material is preferably a non-water absorbent, light reflective inert carrier, such that the pH indicating dye can be readily encapsulated by the water soluble polymer and retained on the outer surface of the inert carrier (base) material; if a water-absorbent base material is used, the water-soluble polymer and the water-soluble pH indicating dye are incorporated into the base material and wasted. Since this patent recommends the use of a non-absorbent matrix material, the water-soluble polymer, after drying, acts as a binder coating to immobilize the pH indicator dye.
The basic cat litter selected in the above two patents is bentonite, and the matrix of the pH indicating material is plastic foam, highly crosslinked sodium polyacrylate polymer material or marble, and granite flake as a carrier. The disadvantage of bentonite is that urine can stick to the cat after being wetted, and bentonite can have ion exchange with urine, possibly affecting the accuracy of pH indication. The polymer material has the function of adsorbing the cat urine, but the water-soluble polymer and/or the water-soluble pH indicating dye can enter the matrix material to cause waste due to the fact that the polymer material is opaque. Although marbles, granites and the like have the advantage of stable chemical properties, the marbles, granites and the like cannot adsorb urine, the urine can directly permeate a large amount of bentonite around the cat after the cat urinates, the bentonite is agglomerated immediately due to water absorption, and the pH indicating materials occupying a small number are wrapped, so that the overall color development and color changing effect of the cat litter are influenced, and even the method of manually scattering the pH indicating materials on the surface of the cat litter has to be adopted, but the problem brought by the way is that the cat urinates the urine which is buried after one time, and the pH indicating materials on the surface are buried in the bentonite to cause waste. And the pH indicating material disclosed by the above two patents and the basic cat litter have different densities due to different materials, so that the pH indicating material in the cat litter is not uniformly distributed, and the overall color development and color change effects of the cat litter are also influenced. International patent WO2014146287a1 provides a pH indicating cat litter material (such as silica) which has a manufacturing process that the color is obvious, but a water-soluble polymer material of the cat litter material has poor caking property when meeting urine, so that the color-developed urine and the cat litter do not conglomerate and cannot be thoroughly cleaned, and thus, the customer consumption experience is poor and no practicability is realized. The paper cat litter with the paper pH indicating function manufactured by Iris Ohyama Inc. in Japan has the same problems as the bentonite cat litter in the paper material of the basic cat litter, and the paper material has the defects that the material can be subjected to ion exchange with urine, the accuracy of pH indication can be influenced, and the product color development is taken as a reference only when the urine contacts the cat litter for 4 hours, so that the accuracy and the practicability are greatly influenced.

when using the tofu litter containing a pH indicating material of the present invention, the problematic acidic pH of the pet urine is below about 6.0, e.g., 5.0, and the m-methyl red changes from yellow to orange. Thus, an orange-yellow appearance indicates that the cat excretes problematic acidic urine. When the urine of the pet in question is at an alkaline pH, indicating that the cat may develop urologic syndrome, for example, when pH is 7.0 to 8.0, indicator A changes from yellow to green or blue, and when yellow metacrylic red is added, the pH mixed indicator will appear dark green to dark blue.
Compared with the prior art, the invention has the beneficial effects that:
(1) the pH indicating cat litter has a caking effect when in use, overcomes the defects of the existing pH indicating cat litter, and the carrier and the basic cat litter in the pH indicating material are made of the same material, namely bean curd residue, starch, plant fiber and the like, so that the two materials are dispersed more uniformly. And because the scientific and professional preparation process enables the product to have stable chemical properties, the product does not have obvious ion exchange properties like bentonite and paper cat litter, and has no practical value like poor caking property of silica cat litter, the pH value of cat urine cannot be interfered, the test accuracy and accuracy are improved, the instant color development and the high timeliness color development are maintained for more than 48 hours, the environment is protected and safe, the natural dust-free plant degradation material is selected as the material, the bean curd cat litter caking can be directly flushed with a toilet bowl, the water dissolution and the decomposition are rapid, the degradation and the environment protection are convenient, and the user experience is greatly improved.
(2) The pH indicating material in the pH indicating cat litter is bean curd residue, starch and plant fiber loaded with a pH indicator. One of the indicators undergoes a significant color change when tested for solutions having a pH of less than 5.0 and the other indicator undergoes a significant color change when tested for solutions having a pH of greater than 7.0. Especially as a litter additive to indicate that the urine is at an acidic pH (pH below about 5.6) or to indicate urinary system syndrome in cats (pH at 7.4 or above).
(3) When urine contacts the pH indicating tofu litter of the present invention, it is absorbed by the pH indicating material uniformly dispersed therein and contacts the pH mixing indicator loaded on its surface and a small portion of it enters the interior thereof, thereby indicating the pH of the urine of the cat. Urine at different pH values will cause the pH indicating material to exhibit different colors. The starch in the invention can ensure that the pH mixed indicator is uniformly dispersed in the solution during preparation, and can improve the expansion rate and water absorption of the pH indicating material, thereby increasing the adsorption effect of the terminal product, not generating dust, and having uniform and quick dyeing.
(4) The tofu litter containing a pH indicating material of the present invention has significant advantages. The consistency of the pH indicating material carrier and the basic cat litter in the material is ensured, so that the pH indicating material in the cat litter product is uniformly distributed, and the pH value of cat urine can be instantly, accurately and stably indicated; the pH indicating material is more obvious in color indication, the color is changed from light yellow to orange yellow from the color with the corresponding color pH value of less than or equal to 5.0 at each pH value of 4-10, the color is light yellow to light green when the pH value is between 5.0 and 7.0, and the color is light green to dark blue when the pH value is more than or equal to 7.0; the product of the invention has low production cost, no toxicity, no radioactivity, simple and easy preparation process, no dust, convenience, practicability and environmental protection.
