Abstract

一种无粘剂之光纤连接器利用一机械抓件22以固定光纤于定位。此抓件在松脱时接受一光纤,当啮合时将光纤抓住。其可在与光纤横向方向移动塞子20以便抓紧。

Description

光纤之无粘剂连接器
光纤连接器通常利用套圈以确使光纤之对正。通常,二条相连接之光纤先行插入一管内,该管有区配套圈连在其上。光纤之末端首先被磨光以产生平滑之光制,套圈被插入中央外壳而将光纤以精确之对齐而抓紧在一起。
“连接器”一词在光纤界常以不同方式使用。有时系指二个在中央外壳上带有套圈之外壳。有时此一词被指为带有套圈之单一外壳。后者定义被采用于本文中。因此,为连接二条光纤,需要二个连接器及一个中央外壳。
在光纤连接器中使用之套圈有许多形式,亦可为许多不同材料所制成。典型套圈为陶质材料制成,亦可为金属或塑胶制成。此套圈可能系同筒型,如在EIA规格475E000中所用之ST连接或SC连接器,亦可为在变圆锥连接器中之截棱锥体。
为确保良好之光纤连接及连接器之结构上完整,光纤必须在连接器内紧密绑住。通常使用粘剂行之。更常用一种环氧树脂以固定光纤于连接器外壳及套圈内。当环氧树脂变硬后,即无法松脱。因此如一条光纤非正确地装在连接器及套圈内时,或在安装后随即损坏时,此外壳及套圈即不能再用。美国专利4,984,865(Lee等人)中曾揭示利用热熔点粘剂以将光纤固定在一光纤连接器内。此法之优点为可再用,但需要将总成在插入光纤及抽去光纤时加热至粘剂之软化温度以上。
环氧树脂及热熔粘剂之缺点为光纤装妥后需要时间上之延迟以便粘剂变硬。此外,热熔粘剂需要使用一加热装置而该加热器必须有电源,因而造成不便。环氧树脂并不一定需要加热装置,但在典型环氧树脂用于光纤连接器时,如不加热,处理期间需要数小时。因此环氧树脂在使用加热器及长处理时间不使上提供一个利弊之权衡。此外,环氧树脂需要一紫外幅射源供处理之用。此种辐射源仍有加电源之需求。
美国专利4,964,685号专利(Savitsky等人)揭示一种光纤连接器,其中之光纤以抓件之机械方式夹在套圈上。根据Savitsky等人之连接器,抓件系抓住光纤之缓衡器上而非抓住光纤本身。由于光纤在缓衡器内可能移动,故无法将光纤之末端与套圈之末端面对齐。由于如果在与光纤成平行之方向沿连接器而移动螺帽会使抓件在光纤套圈上脱离,而导致此一困难更形增加。因此,所需使抓件啮合之力量及运动系与光纤成平行。此举在抓件系紧时造成光纤在套圈中移动。
根据本创作,一光纤连接器含一连接器本体及彼此连接之一套圈。各有一膛穿过其中,两膛相互对齐。一抓件装在连接器体内。当抓件在脱离状况,其接受一插入膛内之光纤。在啮合情况,其将光纤固定在连接器及套圈内。抓件可经由在与膛成横向方向移动一塞子而啮合。

较佳具体实例之详细说明
图1显示一光纤连接器10。图1中之光纤连接器包括一外壳16及一套圈14。外壳16有一刺刀锁住机构12。图1中之装置系将用于一ST连接器中。其利用一ST设计之圆筒形套圈。本技术人士将可了解本创作可用于任何使用此式套圈之光纤连接器上。特别是外壳16应属铝制金属,而套圈14则为陶质,诸如锆氧,氧化铝或钙等钛酸盐。或者外壳16可为塑胶制,套圈14可为金属或塑胶。此外,外壳16及套圈14应分别制造再彼此连接,亦可将二者模制成一单元。为此目的,模制成单一物体外壳及套圈及套圈仍可认为是连接在一起的外壳及套圈。
外壳16及套圈14连接一起以构成连接器10。组合结构10有一主轴及一膛18以供接受沿主轴而进入之一条光纤。外壳16尚包括一校正销子17以供连接器10耦接至一相似连接器以构成一光纤连接时使用。塞子20塞入一与膛18横贯之开口内。外壳16亦包含一应变消除器21。应变消除器21为柔软材料,能提供光纤出口外壳16之保护。
图3为图1之光纤连接10之剖面图。如前所述,塞子20塞入与膛18横贯之开口,膛18实际上含二个彼此对齐之膛。即套圈14之膛25及外壳16之膛26。塞子20与光纤抓住机构22啮合。光纤抓住机构22包含一膛与膛18对齐。光纤27穿过膛18及膛24,光纤即在该处被紧密抓住。膛24末端有一较宽区域28及30以便于光纤27之插入。在较佳具体实例中,光线抓件22直接抓住光纤27而非抓住其保护性缓冲器。此系使抓件22与光纤直接接触而达成。因此可避免以往技术之光纤在缓冲器内移动之问题。
图2说明光纤抓件22之详细情况。图2中,光纤抓件22显示其在其摺起以插入外壳26以前出现之情况。光纤抓件22有较厚之部份32及34,及较薄之中央部份36。薄部份36之目的后在便于在该部份摺起。光纤抓件22系中弹性材料所制成,故其可以摺叠起来直到侧边区域32及34彼此成平面而相互接触。当侧边32及34摺在一起时使表面37及38彼此互靠一起,槽沟24A及24B接触一起而形成见有喇叭口区域之膛24。此外,侧边37及38有二个削角的边缘40及42。光纤抓件22可为金属或塑料等之弹性材料,最好为软铝。
图4及5为本创作光纤连接器沿图1之剖面线4之切面图。如图4所示,塞子20在其顶部有一狭窄部份。在图4中,塞子20自其插入之开口处部份被移除。结果,光纤抓件22可以将图3中之较宽膛24弹开。有塞子20之肋及在图4所示之位置之光纤抓件22,光纤可插入或自连接器部份除去。
图5中,塞子20被压至下方至其开口中。当塞子20被迫进入其开口,其紧压光纤抓件22之削角边缘40及42。此举迫使侧区域32有34进入塞子20之狭窄顶部份43,因此迫使侧区域32及34彼此相拉近直到表面367及38接触。当塞子20已插入开口之深处以使表面37及38接触时,挚爪44,46,48及50将与外壳16冲之槽口啮合。此可提供一触觉回馈指示给该后来装设光纤进入连接器10之人已啮合,及协助保持塞子20在该位置。当塞子20已插入图5所示之位置,已装妥之光纤已被紧密抓住并固定定位。
本创作之一重要特性为该塞子20与光纤成横向滑动以便栓紧光纤抓件22。因此,所有需要之力量及移动以啮合光纤抓件22均发生在不会使光纤对套圈之底面移动之方向。因此,此一特性可使一裂开之光纤插入连接器直到其碰到与连接器之底面紧靠之平板为止。抓件于是啮合,使光纤之底面及连接器彼此准确对齐。
图6为本创作之另一连接器。在图6中之连接器中,套圈60为截角锥体之形式。图6之连接器为双锥连接器。

Claims (9)

1.一种光纤连接器包含一连接器本体(16);一套圈(14)连接在该连接器本体上,每一该连接器本体及该套圈具有一贯穿之膛(25,26),该膛等互相对齐;一塞子(20)插入该连接体中;及一抓件(22)供接受一插入膛内之光纤,该抓件装置为脱离状态,及保持一光纤于膛中时该抓件在啮合状态,该光纤连接器之特征为该抓件装置可在与该膛成横向之方向移动塞子而啮合。
2.根据权利要求1所述的光纤连接器,其中该套圈为一圆
筒。
3.根据权利要求1所述的光纤连接器,其中之套圈为一截角
锥体。
4.根据权利要求1所述的光纤连接器,其中之塞子含第一及
第二夹销以便将抓件挤住以固定光纤。
5.根据权利要求4所述的光纤连接器,其中该抓件为软的铝
材料制成。
6.根据权利要求5所述的光纤连接器,其中之套圈为陶质材
料制成。
7.根据权利要求1所述的光纤连接器,其中该抓件为软的铝
材料制成。
8.根据权利要求7所述的光纤连接器,其中该套圈为陶质材
料。
9.根据权利要求8所述的光纤连接器,其中套圈之材料系选
自含氧化铝,锆氧,钙及钛酸盐等材料。
