Process for the production of Diehlorüthylen. It is known that dichloroethylene is obtained by the action of metals in the presence of ton water on symmetrical tetrachloroethane. This reaction has been described for aluminum, zinc and iron. When using zinc and aluminum, it is sufficient to heat the components to the boiling point of the liquid.
However, the response here is often difficult to regulate. In the case of iron, it was necessary to work under pressure (German Patent 216070) and to blow the dichloroethylene that was formed from time to time, which is both costly and difficult to work with. The present method is based on the new observation.
(Measure from tetrachloroethane dichloroethylene can be obtained without excess pressure and in uniform reaction, if not, as before - metal and water are heated together with tetrachloroethane,
but when inan both water and tetrachloroethane in vapor form can act on (las metal.
The metal can be used in the form of turnings, sheet metal scraps, skin shavings, granules, wires, rolled strips or any other form that presents a large surface.
Example: Steam of tetrachloroethane and water vapor are simultaneously passed through a room filled with iron turnings, and dichloroethane is obtained from the emerging steam mixture in a known manner by condensation and fractional distillation.
The Geiniseli made of tetrachloroethane steam and water vapor can be generated by heating the water and the tetrachloroethane together or by blowing full steam into tetrachloroethane or by using both working methods at the same time.
From your mixture of dichloroethylene, tetrachloroethane and water, which is in vapor form, the bulk of the tetra chloroethane can be separated by partial condensation and fed back into the reaction. The uncondensed portion is then completely condensed and yields a dichloroethylene. that by distillation
daily pure can be obtained.
It is practical if the tetrachloroethane is conveyed in vapor form with water vapor over granulated zinc.
The result is a dichlorethylene which can be obtained completely pure by distillation. The yield of crude dichloroethylene is generally 88 "." O of theory.
With fractional distillation, this crude product yields about: 10 dichloroethylene, which boils from 48 60 "and has a specific weight of 1.8, thus a mixture of the two stereoisomeric dichloroethylene without any other essential This composition was confirmed by a chlorine determination.
The remainder is tetrachloroethane unchanged in terms of boiling point and specific weight.
The yield is. when full zinc is used, about q5%. The crude product yields about a pure mixture of the two dichloroethy iies.
